س سكته A quick pause without breaking your breath

Do stop قفجط م

End of verse Do stop

We break our voice and breath to stop at a word.

Different signs are used in the Quran to indicate whether or not we should stop.

How to stop?

When we want to stop at a word, we need to look at the last letter of that word:

If the last letter is small Ta ة it

becomes small Ha Sakinah -ه

How to stop?If the last letter is not

small Ta, we look at the Harakah of the last letter:

For single harakah, such as Fat-hah, Dhammah and Kasrah, change it into Saakinah/Sukun

For Double Fat-hah and Double Dhammah, change it into Saakinah/Sukun

For Double Fat-hah, change it into Alif

In short:If the last letter has double Fatah, it becomes AlifAny other harakah changes into Sukun

How to stop with a Shaddah letter?

When you stop on a letter with Shaddah , read that letter with force:

How to stop at سكته sign?

When we see the سكته sign after a word, we need to have a short pause at that word, then continue with the recitation WITHOUT breaking out breath.

When we keep the pause, we must not break our breath.
