“Bologna Before Bologna”
• 1978: High education in electrical engineering in Osijek has been established (Colege of Eletrical Machines)
• 1991: Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been founded (power system engineering)
• 1993-1997: Electronics, automation, comunication and computer science and postgraduate study programs introduced
• 2005: Undergraduate Bologna programs introduced with Power System, Comunication, Automation and Computer Sciene study programs
• 2006: Postgraduate Bologna studies introduced• 2007: Approximately 2000 students of which 450 entering first year
since 2005/2006• 2007: Over 150 teachers of which 30 full-time profesors and
lecturers, 42 reserach associates and about 80 teachers from other international and Croatian universities and companies

• In 2005/2006 tutors are assigned to all first-year students. In February 2006 the Instructions for Tutors Activities has been established. Key activities:
1. Quality Assurance Committee to prepare and distribute the study results reports at the beggining of each semester
2. Tutors to hold the joint meeting with supervised students two times in the semester to discuss the results, problems and proposals for the studying quality assurance
3. Tutors to report the conclusions of the meetings to Quality Assurance Committee/Vicedean for Education
• Resulted in the large improvements in studying quality, students-teacher relations and organizational issues

• Majority of the teacher introduced some form of grading systems based on the results of a variety of students activities
• Pilot ECTS Grading Criteria System introduced in February 2007 and voluntary conducted in summer semester of 2006/2007
• Disscusions and positive experiences implemented in the “final” ECTS Grading Criteria System which is valid in 2007/2008
• System is based on the Bologna declaration and on ECTS - European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, Directorate-General for Education and Culture, Brussels 14 February 2005
• Criteria are intending to introduce objective grading quanitfying all the student work, and particulary to motivate the students on continuous activities during the year with final aim to rise the learning outcomes and obtained skills with emphasys on individual work

• Insufficent teaching staff resulted in larger groups of students for lectures and problem solvingLectures (P): 100 to 200 students – 1st year

Problem solving (AV): 50 to 60 students Laboratory practice (LV/KV): 15 to 16 students
• Primary goal: to increase the number of theachers (profesors!) = increase the quality (enables smaller groups, sofisticated grading criteria, more individual work with students)
• Insufficent space and equipment laboratory problem is solved continously, but is to be finally solved by the end of the 2nd phase of Campus reconstruction (in 2007/2008) and particulary the 3rd phase (expected in 5-10 years)
• Teachers/student exchange ??? Very low, almost none!

• Approx. 40 engineers each year continouing for diploma engineer (from this year taking differential courses for Master degree)
• At present there is a number of lifelong learning possibilities, such as:1. Computer education: operator, graphical designer, programer in Visual Basic, AutoCAD designer2. CISCO networking academy3. Expert specialization in electrical engineering 25 short (8-16 hours) courses in power system and
