WINDHAM PUBLIC LIBRARY 217 Windham Center Road, Windham, ME 04062 MAY 2015

Director’s Note:

April was a month of celebration! We celebrated the hard work of our staff, our dedicated volunteers and

libraries in general as an important institution for learning and fun for the community during National

Library Week, National Library Workers’ Day and National Volunteer Week. The staff and volunteers here

at the library are what make this library special and keep it running so successfully. Each individual is hard

working and committed to helping this community receive the best library service possible and I so

appreciate their efforts. Thank you!

This month, it will be six months since our entry into the Minerva consortium. The service has

taken off and many of you are taking advantage of all the consortium has to offer. Search the

catalog and see all that we have to offer. You will be amazed at what you find!

Finally, you know the saying… April showers bring May flowers… have you started

planning your flower garden? Looking to start a vegetable garden? Are you ready for that

first cookout of the season? We have the resources for you! We have some great new

books on gardening, outdoor cooking and cooking with summer seasonal vegetables.

Check them out!

Don’t forget to visit the library website and click Calendar to see all our events going on

at the library. There’s something for everyone.

I hope to see you in the library soon!

Tid-Bit O’ Little Lit

Can you say “Tid-Bit O’ Little Lit” three times fast? Did you know that tongue twisters are good for children’s brain development? For the next few months, Mrs. Currier will start off Books and Babies, very briefly, with a little Tid-Bit (such as that) about young children and the importance of literacy.

Monthly Genealogy Workshop

Friday, May 8th, 1-3 pm

Does the thought of researching your family tree overwhelm you? Don’t let it – it’s easier

than you think. During these classes, you’ll receive guidance for locating family information

at home, and in digitized records, books, indexes and other online sources.

Please call Jen @ the Library (892-1908) with questions about these free workshops.

handouts, library materials, and various objects revolving

around a topic. All ages are welcome to browse the display.

A picture (book) is worth a thousand words

In the Children’s Room, can you guess which picture book has been

shredded and put into a jar? There will be a sweet treat in your future,

Summer Reading Program T-Shirt Sale!

The childrens’ Summer Reading Program theme “Every Hero Has a Story” can be

celebrated with the purchase of a $5.50 shirt. (Adult sizes also available, some $7.50)

See the folks in the Children’s Room for details. Shirts will be available to try on to be

sure you get the right size. They are a great shade of blue. Come take a look.
