The suburb of Whitby

Whitby is ideally located just 20 km from Wellington City along the motorway – and 15 km from both the Hutt Valley and Kapiti Coast.

Named after the Yorkshire port town where Captain James Cook, the 16th century English discoverer carries a nautical theme into the street and neighbourhood names of the area; names such as ‘The Quarterdeck’, ‘Discovery Place’ and ‘Spinnaker Drive’.

From the beginning, Whitby was a ‘planned residential community’ where the development focused on creating and maintaining a quality environment for residents. Section and street layouts were planned to blend with the terrain and a high proportion of space was dedicated to green areas, trees and recreational amenities*.

The first houses were built in the area in 1970 – now there are well over 3,000 with a population of over 10,000! It continues to grow in size and popularity as people continue to crave sanctuary from the city, more space and a better lifestyle – especially those with young families.

People love living in Whitby as it has so much to offer and a strong sense of community.

Whitby is a great place to be if you are in to leisure and sport. The picturesque Pauatahanui inlet is a popular place for all sorts of water sports including water skiing, kayaking and windsurfing. There are also some lovely spots for swimming on those hot summer days.

If you enjoy biking or walking this is also a great place to be. There are also over 15 km of walking tracks that weave through the area and local parks offering lovely views of the bush, lakes and inlet.

Not far down the road is Plimmerton Beach – a lovely spot to enjoy the crashing of the waves onto the sand or for a leisurely stroll along the beach.

Whitby boasts a shopping centre with all the essentials including a supermarket and pharmacy, plus a wide range of community organisations and amenities including three primary schools.

Just down the road is the Paramata Shopping Centre with a wide range of shops and cafes plus a supermarket.

Ten minutes south down the motorway is the huge North

City Shopping Centre in Porirua – one of Wellington’s largest indoor shopping centres with well over 100 retail stores. The shopping centre is just one of the many attractions in Porirua . You can also visit the Pataka Museum, ride the waves at the Aquatic Centre or take your family to the latest movie. Or head out into the great outdoors – there’s fishing and farm adventures, windsurfing, scuba diving, sailing, golfing etc.

Whitby enjoys it’s own microclimate and is often warmer and less windy than Wellington, and just a twenty minute or so drive from Wellington it is a great place to get away from the bustle and hustle of the city!

Steve Fejos

Born in Wellington and educated at St. Patrick’s College

and Victoria University in Wellington Steve entered real

estate in August 1993, having come from a background

in property management. In January 1996 Steve was

appointed Sales Manager for Challenge Realty’s Oriental

Bay Office. Within 18 months Steve took the office into

the top 10 in the Challenge Realty Group. Steve went on

to purchase three Wellington offices in October 1997.

Over the next seven years Steve was instrumental in

growing the company from a sales team of 12 to a team

of 68 sales people with 4,000 house sales worth over

1.5 billion dollars!

Shortly after Steve sold the business he was approached

by Ray White Australia and asked to restructure their

international business model so as to increase their

competitiveness with RE/MAX. At the time over 300

sales people, in Queensland alone, had left Ray White to

join RE/MAX. In the next few years Steve played a huge

part in turning around the fortunes of Ray White and

increasing the number of sales people by over 40%.

Steve returned to New Zealand in November 2005 and

took up the role of Director of Operations for RE/MAX

New Zealand. The role was to assist broker owners and

top sales people at new and established RE/MAX offices

to implement their business plans and maintain the

momentum of the fastest growing real estate company

- the RE/MAX brand, in New Zealand and Australia.

In 2006 Steve attended a wide range of leading

international industry training seminars in Denver,

Chicago and Brisbane.

After more than 400 flights during his 3 years in his

corporate career Steve decided to resign and return

to what he loves doing most - selling real estate in

Wellington.

Steve’s extensive experience in real estate spanning

local, national and international markets is a huge

benefit to his clients. This and his innovative and

unique marketing techniques is Setting a New BENCH

MARQUE in Wellington Real Estate.

Awards receivedUnder the LJ Hooker brand Steve was twice winner of

the National Franchise Owner of the Year Award 2000

and 2002.

Most Productive Team Award in 2001.

National Communications Award 2002.

Top 10 International Office for Gross Commission. 1999:

8th place, 2000: 5th place, 2001: 8th place, 2002: 7th

place, 2003: 10th place.

TestimonialGary Ahearn, Regional Director of RE/MAX Australasia

says, “Steve brings together a vast experience and

understanding of all facets of real estate. Having been

very successful in sales in the mid 1990’s Steve really

made his mark on real estate by establishing a very

credible and strong company under the L.J.Hooker

brand. The standards he set are still the standards some

offices are striving to attain to. However it is Steve’s

ability to relate to all people in the community which is

his outstanding strength.”
