PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Crafting a Life That Matters (W) .................................................................................................................... Ballroom 220CThere’s an idea in our culture that living a meaningful life is some grand pursuit — that you have to be a spiritual guru or lifesaving surgeon to count your life as meaningful. Actually, that’s not true. Each and every person, regardless of who they are and what they do, can lead a meaningful life. The question is — how? Emily Esfahani Smith draws on the new and growing body of social science research, as well as the stories of ordinary and extraordinary people she interviewed, to reveal what the building blocks of a meaningful life are. Start the new year with the key steps and information to ensure that every day you feel fulfilled and happy.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT Start-up Hacks for Your Work and Life (W) ................................................................................................... Ballroom 220BLiving your life like a start-up is about maximizing flexibility and measuring ongoing results, not avoiding failure or reaching one particular end goal. It’s about embracing defeat, analyzing it and failing up. Anna Akbari, Ph.D., demonstrates how to reach fulfillment in all areas of life by using the same strategies that power Silicon Valley’s greatest start-ups. Using the Startup Your Life principles, you actively create the career and life you want, regardless of the stage you’re in or the hurdles you face. This approach is not just a bunch of philosophical fluff — rather, it offers realistic, actionable strategies that allow you to implement and live each of the lessons from day one. Personal fulfillment is created, not inherited or earned. And outside forces feel a lot less overwhelming when tackled systematically, with a little guidance. Let her help you game the system as you hustle and hack your way to happiness.
