' I':) I /, " " ;0. -" RESOLUTION NO. 1988-37 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY REPRESENTING WEAKLEY COUNTY TO INTRODUCE APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION TO PROHIBIT THE HUNTING OF DEER IN WEAKLEY COUNTY WITH RIFLES USING CENTER-FIRE AMMUNITION OF .24 CALIBER OR LARGER WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 70-4-116 (al, makes it unlawful in th~ State of Tennessee to hunt deer with any rifle using rim-fire cartridges or with a rifle loaded with center-fire ammunition of less than .24 caliber; and WHEREAS, on October 12, 1970, the Weakley County Quarterly Court (now Board of County Commissioners) adopted a resolution condemning the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles and requested the Tennessee Fish and Game Commission (now Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency) to issue a proclamation prohibiting the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles; and -I i WHEREAS, the Tennessee Fish and Game Commission honored the resolution and issued a proclamation prohibiting the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles; and WHEREAS, on April 21, 1980, the Board of County Con@issioners again condemned the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles and requested the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to continue the proclamation prohibiting the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles, and said resolution was honored by the Tennessee wildlife Resources Agency; and WHEREAS, on July 18, 1988, the Board of County Commissioners of Weakley County soundly defeated a resolution requesting the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to permit deer hunting in Weakley Couhty with high powered rifles; and WHEREAS, despite the action of the Board of County Commissioners, the Tennessee wildlife Resources Agency voted to permit the hunting of deer in Weakley County with high powered rifles beginning in August of 1989; and WHEREAS, a group of concerned citizens of Weakley County have approached the elected members of the Tennessee General Assembly representing Weakley County and req~ested that legislation be introduced which would prohibit deer hunting in Weakley County with high powered rifles; and WHEREAS, the elected members of the Tennessee General Assembly representing Weakley County have agreed to introduce such legislation provided that the same is supported by a 2/3 majority of the membership of the Board of County Commissioners of Weakley County; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weakley County believes it to be in the best interest of Weakley County for the legislature to prohibit deer hunting in Weakley County with high powered rifles. lP? NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of CountyCommissioners of Weakley county, Tennessee, assembled in regularsession on the 17th day of October, 1988, that:

1. The Board of County Commissioners of Weakley County,Tennessee, hereby requests that appropriate legislation beintroduced in the 96th General Assembly prohibiting the huntingof deer in Weakley County, Tennessee, with rifles usingcenterfire ammunition of .24 caliber or larger.
