Windchill 9.1 overview : File Server
A GPD Architecture With File Servers
Master copies of content can be stored on Master server or Remote File Servers
Remote CAD Workers can serve File Servers
Includes Pro/INTRALINK Data Migrator support
Benefits of Remote File Server
Reduces Network Bandwidth Consumption up to 85%
Reduces Disk Storage Usage by up to 50%
Increases Windchill GPD Scalability

A GPD Architecture With Replica Servers
The master copy of all content is on the Master Windchill server.
All content on replicas are copies (except for new uploaded content which has not been copied back to the master)
When there is very little collaboration between sites, the replica server architecture may use excessive Network Bandwidth and Disk Storage (2X) AND burden the Windchill Master server with unnecessary replication processes
Benefits
Simple, viable disaster recovery strategy

Workspace Frames
Brings Workspace Frames functionality to Windchill
Capabilities/Benefits
Track ever changing state of users workspace (frames)
It gives the sense of security that any accidental changes/deletion can be reverted back.

Detail Design: Heterogeneous Design-In-Context (HDIC)
HDIC Integration between PDMLink and Pro/E will allow
Data Managed Associativity in a Multi-CAD Enterprise
New Capabilities with Wildfire 4.0 and PDMLink 9.1
Search for or Browse to Non-Pro/E CADDocs (V5 and UG) in PDMLink
Load Non-Pro/E CAD models directlyfrom PDMLink
Perform associative updates on Pro/EATB models that are linked to Non-Pro/E CADDocs in PDMLink
See ATB link to PDMLink Workspace for Non-Pro/E CAD models. Upload their Pro/E ATB models to PDMLink as Pro/E CADDocs
ATB CADDoc and Non-Pro/E CADDoc will link to the same WtPart
Dependency relation between CADDocs ensures Pro/E user downloads latest version of Non-Pro/E Master model whenever they download Pro/E ATB model

Improved Part – Document Relationships
> Goals– Deliver more flexibility to user working with product structure
driven from CAD data
– Enable user outside of CAD tools to work with CAD driven
product structure
> Key Capabilities– Provide environment for viewing CAD and Product Structure
side-by-side
• Compare differences
• Make edits
• Provide graphical feedback
– Relax restrictiveness of build rules
• Edit Product Structure qty.
• Restructuring capabilities
– Allow structures to evolve out-of-sync (planned for
M010)• Allow decoupling of structure building from CAD tool & check-in
– Multi-soft type support for CAD
– Simultaneous New CAD and Part creation UI

How can I change my Product Structure but
keep the association to the CAD Model?
26
Improved Part – Document Relationships Highlights
> Preference for decoupling build from WS check-in– Asynchronous structure changes (working out of sync)
> Introduction of the Dual Structure Browser– Compare CAD & Part Structures side-by-side
– Execute (selective) build of product structure
> New “Gathering” Assembly handling
> Multiple CAD Document Soft Typing Support– Define types based on authoring tools
– Drive type created based on CAD model attribute (parameter) value
– Couple CAD document soft type with WTPart soft type creation during auto-associate
> Flexibility to edit CAD driven structures– Easily change quantity information for built parts
– Remove erroneous built parts from structures
27
Auto-associate UI
> 9.1 Workspace Auto-Associate– Accessed from Workspace > Edit menu
> 2 discrete tables presented to user– 1 for Models related to a Part
– 1 identifying models where a Part will be created
> Issues/Limitations– Operates based on configuration and customization rules
– Use interaction/options limited
28
X-20 Auto-associate UI
> X-20 Concept– Single table approach
– Enabling additional user interaction
29
X-20 Auto-associate UI
Allow user to
specify new or
existing part to
associate
Specify & edit
association type
Specify Part
Type
Should it be an
End Item?
30
X-20 Auto-associate UI
> Benefits– Better view of associations between Part and CAD
– Provides end user more control of associations and CAD driven Part attributes
– Consistent with Edit Association UI
– Continues to follow custom/configured rules but allows for additional flexibility
31
> Scenario– CAD User creates initial product structure/BOM from CAD design
– Downstream processes/users need this BOM to remain static for their activities
– Meanwhile CAD User may have some new ideas or modification which to experiment without
disrupting the enterprise activities associated with the product structure
– If model changes make sense later user will push these updates to structure
> How– Decouple build from Workspace Check-in
• User preference controlled
• Operation > CheckIn Operation > Checkin > Build After Check In [All, None]
– Execute build On Demand
– Leverage Dual Structure Browser to interrogate changes
Working “Out of Sync”
Not always desirable to push changes to product structure
32
Introducing Gathering Part
> How things are modeled not always indicative of the BoM– Grouping or gathering assemblies used
– Structure needed for navigation
– …but want to filter from BoM
Desired BoM

33
Introducing Gathering Parts
> How they’re displayed– Identifiable by attribute & Icon
– Gathering Parts visible in product
structure hierarchy
– Filtered from BoM reports
– Children are elevated up a level in
reports
> Ways to set value– Toggled by editing part attributes
– Drivable by CAD document
attribute
Set Gathering Part
to Yes to filter from
BOM reports
Gathering Part
children remain in
BOM report
34
CAD Document Soft Typing
> Support for multiple CAD document soft types
> Administration– New Type Manager
• Define CAD document types
• Configure role based access to attribute information
• Configure Attribute layouts for Property Pages and Create UI
• Configure usage based on Authoring Application
– Tie to Templates
• Admin configure CAD document templates for availability
• Upload template part to proper type using parameter
> Usage– Drive usage based on model parameters
• Operation>Upload Operation>Upload>Soft Type Parameter
• UPLOAD_SOFT_TYPE = <logical identifier of soft type definition>
– Select during New > CAD Document action
– Create along with Part during New Part process
– Preference to configure type usage per CAD authoring application

Enterprise Top Down Design – Key Concepts
> Goal– Define a concept product architecture and
transform into detailed product structure
– Allow the creation of related CAD content and CAD
relationships based on product structure decisions
> Key Capabilities– Enable the visual comparison of Part and CAD
structures
• Create CAD documents from Parts
• Allows the editing of built product structures
– Introduce concept of a CAD structure from
Product Structure to create model structures from
Part structure
• Build selectively
• Pass attribute information from Part to CAD
documents

Windchill 8.0 - 3rd Party MCAD WGM Architecture
“Hybrid Java + HTML” Architecture
Most end-user interaction provided through Java interfaces
Limited functionality provided through HTML workspace
No support for features such as Rename and Save As
Limited support for heterogeneous CAD Data Management
No common code platform - each application is maintained individually which leads to inconsistencies and duplication of effort.
Forward Looking Information Subject to Change Without Notice © 2007 PTC42
Windchill 9.0 Unified Workgroup Manager Architecture
Unified WGM Approach:
Uses Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire embedded WGM launched as a separate application which interacts with 3rd Party MCAD systems.
All Workgroup Managers (including Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire) are now based on same platform.
