Our Captain, GiorgioPomata, was born in the small town of Carloforte onthe Island of San Pietro. Growing up on an island in themiddle of the Mediterranean Sea, he had dreamed ofgoing to sea since being a child. Shortly aftergraduating from nautical school in 1972, he joined theItalian Navy where he served for 2 years, primarily withthe Italian Coast Guard. His Merchant Navy Career
began as a junior officer on board tankers between the years 1975 and 1978, and in1978 he joined Sitmar Cruises. Since joining Sitmar, Captain Pomata has served onboard all the Sitmar ships and, following the merger with Princess Cruises, hecontinued to serve in the position of Safety Officer on board Crown, Regal, Fair andthe original Star Princess. His first senior appointment was in January 1992, when heserved as Staff Captain on board Crown Princess. He has since served on board SunPrincess, Dawn Princess, Royal Princess, Ocean Princess, Star Princess, GrandPrincess, Island Princess, Coral Princess and Emerald Princess as Captain.
