2017 STARTU

PSp.04

The fourth year of bringing the most exciting innovations in healthcare to light

Since its launch in 2014, WIRED Health’s Startup Stage has been a platform for entrepreneurs on the cusp of major influence to present their new prod-ucts, solutions and technology. The first WIRED Health Startup Stage winner, sleep health app Sleepio and its parent company Big Health, made headlines in July 2016 for securing $12 million in fund-ing to extend its work in mental health.

This year, we are pleased to continue the tradition of bringing fast-growing stars on stage and helping them present their stories to an intimate audience of investors, innovators, pharmaceutical executives and health practitioners.

We’ll be announcing more startup speak-ers in the following weeks.

These are the partners helping to make WIRED Health 2017 a success

Sandoz, a division of the Novartis Group, is a global leader in generic and biosimilar pharmaceuticals. The company aims to discover new ways to improve and extend people’s lives, contributing to society’s ability to support growing healthcare needs by pioneering novel approaches to help people around the world access high-quality medicine.

This year, Sandoz launched Sandoz HACk – Healthcare Access Challenge – a global competition to generate innovative ideas and solutions to help tackle some of the world’s most pressing healthcare access problems. Sandoz HACk received a large number of applications, with many great ideas. The six shortlisted entries will be asked to present their idea to a panel of expert judges at WIRED Health. The three winners of Sandoz HACk will be announced during WIRED Health.

At Pfizer, we apply science and our global resources to bring therapies to people that extend and significantly improve their lives. We strive to set the standard for quality, safety and value in the discovery, development and manufacture of healthcare products. Our global portfolio includes medicines and vaccines as well as many of the world’s best-known consumer healthcare products.

Every day, Pfizer colleagues work across developed and emerging markets to advance wellness, prevention, treatments and cures that challenge the most feared diseases of our time. Consistent with our responsibility as one of the world’s premier innovative biopharmaceutical companies, we collaborate with healthcare providers, governments and local communities to support and expand access to reliable, affordable healthcare around the world.

Based in London, Bird & Bird is the go-to international law firm for organisations delivering smarter healthcare for the 21st century. Working with 50 per cent of the largest pharmaceutical companies around the world and a range of disruptive technology providers, Bird & Bird guides its clients through every aspect of the life cycle of innovative healthcare products and services.

As populations age and chronic diseases become more commonplace, healthcare will take an ever larger share of GDP. Scientific progress, augmented intelligence and empowered patients are driving changes in the delivery of healthcare to a personalised experience that demands health outcomes as the core metric. This is causing a power shift among stakeholder groups, with new entrants disrupting the incumbents.

Innovation, productivity and access to patients remain the industry’s biggest challenges. These trends challenge the capital strategy of every link in the life-sciences value chain, from R&D and product supply to product launch and patient-centric operating models.

Our Global Life Sciences Sector brings together 11,000 professionals to anticipate trends, identify their implications and help our clients create competitive advantage.
