Seven of the eleven Executive Board Members from Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia and Bhutan gathered with Dr Lee, Wui-Chiang, President ASQua as the Chairman. On the following day, 30th August 2014, an Asia regional meeting was held between ISQua and ASQua at the same venue. The regional meeting was organised by ISQua and chaired by Professor David Bates. ASQua also held its annual conference 2014 at the same venue. The meeting and conference was a surrounding success where new milestones were achieved and records broken with the prominent ones being the successful launch of the ISQua / ASQua/ TJCHA’s Joint Fellowship Program and the inaugural ISQua Global Leaders Lecture Series that was held for the first time in the Asian continent in Taipei, Taiwan. Heartfelt congratulations and appreciation goes to Dr Lee, Wui-Chiang, President ASQua and Dr Lin, Hung-Jung, Chief Executive Officer TJCHA and their team, for hosting the ASQua conference and meetings. Subsequent to the meetings held in Taiwan, ISQua has extended an invitation to ASQua for a second Asia regional meeting to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 7th of October 2014. The key outcome and potential salient growth areas for ISQua and ASQua from all the meetings held in Taiwan and Rio were: ASQua’s commitment and support in human resource development and talent management especially in training of ISQua surveyors for the ISQua accreditation program for surveyor’s training and participation in the ISQua accreditation council and Board Member, educational development (conference and journal publication) and corporate affairs and governance (regional development); ASQua’s commitment and support to promote the ISQua accreditation programs, memberships and educational activities organised by ISQua in the Asian region; and Productive range of collaboration and partnership activities namely in provision of incentives in terms of financial and non-financial, to ISQua and ASQua members. Financial includes discounts and sponsorships in the fellowship program, conference and membership fees. It is once again this time of the year that the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care (ASQua) successfully held its 6th Annual General Meeting and 7th Executive Board Meeting at the Howard Civil Service International House Taipei, Taiwan on 29th August 2014. Seven of the eleven Executive Board Members from Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia and Bhutan gathered with Dr Lee, Wui-Chiang, President ASQua as the Chairman. On the following day, 30th August 2014, an Asia regional meeting was held between ISQua and ASQua at the same venue. The regional meeting was organised by ISQua and chaired by Professor David Bates. ASQua also held its annual conference 2014 at the same venue.

The meeting and conference was a surrounding success where new milestones were achieved and records broken with the prominent ones being the successful launch of the ISQua / ASQua/ TJCHA’s Joint Fellowship Program and the inaugural ISQua Global Leaders Lecture Series that was held for the first time in the Asian continent in Taipei, Taiwan. MSQH successfully organised a one day Seminar on 29th September 2014 with the theme “Navigating the Convergence and Clinical and Information Technology: Benefit and Risks to Patient” that was held at The Everly Hotel, Putrajaya. The seminar was jointly organised by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and ECRI Institute.

The speaker for the Seminar was Mr Anthony J. Montagnolo, Executive Vice President and COO, ECRI Institute.

This seminar aimed to address how clinical technology and information technology influences overall patient safety in both positive and negative ways. The trends, international experiences and new strategies in convergence of clinical technology and information technology to improve patient safety will be presented. Strategies to ensure that existing clinical technology and information technology is procured, managed and efficiently maintained through its lifecycle to create safer patient environments were deliberated/diseassed

On 18th October 2014, chief surveyors attended the MSQH Chief Surveyor Update at MSQH Training Centre. The training session was conducted by Dr Kadar Marikar (CEO, MSQH), Ms Noramiza Md Nasir, MSQH Executive Manager, Research and Development, YBhg Puan Sri Dr Wong Hee Ong and Dato’ Dr Ravindran Jegasothy.

The objectives of the program were to discuss issues pertaining to MSQH Hospital Accreditation Standards, 4th Edition and survey process.

The training helped chief surveyors in greater understanding and interpretation of MSQH Hospital Accreditation Standards, 4th Edition and survey process. The training discussions also focused on improving coordination of the survey process and better guidance to the survey team so as to achieve better decision making. In addition, the group discussed and reached consensus on the appeal survey process presented by Dato’ Dr Ravindran Jegasothy, MSQH Committee Member.

MSQH successfully organised a surveyor’s update for the engineer surveyors on 15th November 2014 at MSQH Conference Room. A total of 7 engineer surveyors attended the training.

The training focused on issues relevant to Environmental and Engineering aspects in the MSQH Hospital Accreditation Standards, 4th Edition and survey process.

The training assists the engineer surveyors greater understanding and interpretation of MSQH Hospital Accreditation Standards, 4th Edition and Survey process. The training also provided an opportunity for the engineer surveyors to improve coordination of the survey process and better relaying information to the survey team so as to achieve better decision making. Furthermore, the meeting also discussed on how to reduce the variation on interpretation of standards and recommendations among the engineer surveyors.

The update was facilitated by Assoc Prof Dr M.A Kadar Marikar, CEO, MSQH and Puan Zaina Muhamad, Executive Manager, Technical and Client Services, MSQH.

The Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) was honored to be given the opportunity to receive Ms Triona Fortune, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ISQua on the 9th and 10th February 2015 at MSQH’s office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The visit was hosted by MSQH and was attended by Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir, President MSQH, Puan Sri Datuk Dr Suraiya Hani Tun Hussein, Deputy President MSQH, Associate Professor Dr M.A.Kadar Marikar, Chief Executive Officer MSQH, Mr Anwar Anis, Dr Krishna Kumar and Dr Yoong Fook Ngian, Board Members of MSQH.

MSQH President, Datin Paduka Siti introduced Triona to the Honorable Deputy Director General (DG) of Health Malaysia, Datuk Dr Jeyaindran Tan Sri Sinnadurai on 9th February 2015 at the DG’s office in the Federal Government Administrative Centre, Putrajaya.

Among the main agenda in the dialogue session that took place with the Deputy DG was the emphasis on the promotion of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) as the authoritative organization to award the international certification to countries having their own local accrediting bodies.

Additionally, Ms. Triona briefed the honorable Datuk Dr Jeyaindran on the current activities and programs ISQua has developed and engaged with its members globally, including World Health Organisation, MSQH and other local accrediting bodies worldwide.

Triona also promoted and suggested MSQH and everyone who is interested in healthcare quality and safety, to consider registering for the ISQua Fellowship Programme.

In celebrating World Health Day 2015 on Food Safety, NTV7 has an extended an invitation to MSQH to be a guest on Bella Talk Show at 11.00 a.m. on 7th April 2015.

MSQH was represented by Ms. Rebecca John, Project Manager, MSQH. The MSQH was asked to share the impact of MSQH Accreditation Program on Food Safety in healthcare facilities accredited by MSQH.

Dr Tuan Zainazor Tuan Chilek, Principal Assistant Director from Food Safety and Quality Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia talked about Food Safety in Malaysia and what measures to be taken by the public to ensure safe food and prevent food borne diseases.

A one day National Healthcare Leaders’ Summit and the Launching of the Patients for Patient Safety Malaysia (PFPSM) was held on 29th April 2014 at the Marriot Hotel in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya. �e Summit was aptly themed Patients for Patient Safety”. �is national summit was the follow-up of the successful activity of the �rst WHO Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) Country workshop organized together by WHO (Ni�ita from WHO Geneva, Dr Ken-ichiro Taneda from WPRO, Dr Graham from WHO Representative’s O�ce Malaysia), the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia in September 2013.

A total of 217 participants from around the country comprising of healthcare administrators, senior and middle level managers, clinicians, nurses and allied health practitioners a�ended the summit. Around 30 guests representing the public and private healthcare sectors and other related agencies a�ended the o�cial opening of the summit and the launching of the PFPSM. �e National Healthcare Leaders’ Summit was jointly organized by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), Ministry of Health Malaysia and Patients for Patient Safety Malaysia (PFPSM) and Patient Safety Council Malaysia. International speakers for the Summit were Dr Alexander �omas the Chief Executive O�cer of Banglore Baptist Hospital as well as Dr Ken- ichiro Taneda, Technical O�cer (Patient Safety& Quality) Western Paci�c Regional O�ce (WPRO), Manila who were among the main plenary speakers that also included Dr Kadar Marikar, Chief Executive O�cer of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health, Dr Nor’ Aishah Abu Bakar, Deputy Director, Quality in Medical Care Section & Technical Coordinator Patient Safety Council Malaysia and Mr Manvir Jesudasan, the Chairman of PFPSM.

�is summit was held at raising the awareness of healthcare leaders in the country on patient safety and the importance of patient and community engagement in health-care services and quality and safety initiatives.

�e o�cial Opening of the National Leaders’ Summit was o�ciated by YB Minister of Health Malaysia Dato' Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam. �e Health Minister Malaysia, in his opening speech highlighted the theme of the Summit, ‘Patients for Patient Safety’ and the participants called to examine whether the place where patients go for treatment received safe care as they rightly should be. Data from WHO indicate risk of 1 in 10 patients in developing countries being harmed in the process of being treated. �e Malaysian Patient Safety Goals established by the Patient Safety Council Malaysia which are based on the Global Patient Safety Initiatives sets to improve on patient safety and the reporting and analysis of patient safety incidences. �e Minister further reiterated that communication and engaging patients in discussions and explanation from the patients’ point of view is very important in the delivery of healthcare.
