Why an Eco Friendly Fashion Show?

Influences designers to use eco-friendly fabrics

Raises awareness of various environmental issues and how one person can make a difference

Further promotes the use of environmentally friendly items and behaviours outside of fashion Encourages a “Green” lifestyle

A fashion show is a form of entertainment

How Can You Help? Purchase, or make clothing with

eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton, hemp, silk, and bamboo fibres

Re-using old clothing and restyling them to fit new trends (ex. A ruined pair of jeans can become a new pair of shorts)

Instead of purchasing new clothes swap with a friend

Reduce the use of chemically made clothes like polyester

Become more aware of environmental concerns in everyday life and make more of a difference in other areas the environment needs attention

Who’s Really Concerned?

The following graph conveys how many Canadians are concerned for environmental issues in the recent year of 2007. The leading issue is manufacture use and disposal of toxic chemicals soon followed by air and water quality.

What Are Some Issues?

There are much more paramount issues other than in fashion, such as:

Burning of fossil fuels, and industrial and fuel emissions is a major cause of air pollution; a leading contributor to smog (bottom right)

Fertilizers, pesticides, and industrial wastes tap into our soils and groundwater and contaminate our already limited fresh water supply (top left)

Logging and clear cutting of the rainforest; meant for commercial purposes, is damaging our already limited oxygen supply

Global warming is a major worldwide concern as its effects include dangerously high temperature increases (top right)

Which Issues Take Priority? The previous

graph conveyed how many Canadians are concerned with certain issues whereas this graph depicts which issues are considered most important. More than one quarter of Canadians are concerned with Air pollution

The Show Itself

A chance to allow a designer to express their emotions towards environmental issues

Each designer featured in the show will display one specific piece of clothing that will represent an individual issue. Example, one dress may represent the depletion of rainforests

Items within the show can be auctioned off to members within the audience

Proceeds from the show go to Green Peace
