Come “Explore Horizon” with Us!

For those who are visiting and want to know more about Unitar-ian Universalism and Horizon, or for members who want to learn more about how Horizon works, an upcoming class will provide excellent information. And, if you are considering be-coming a member, the “Exploring Horizon” class is highly rec-ommended—here, you can ask all your questions! On Sunday, August 24th, after the Sunday service, Director of Lay Ministry Marianna Seaton, and Membership Co-Chair Sandy Steele will lead “Exploring Horizon” from 12:30-3:30. A light lunch will be served. Class will be held in the church library and free childcare will be provided if requested at [email protected] at least one week in advance.

Learn about the Seven Principles that we as Unitarian Universalists strive to integrate into our lives. Hear about the history and the fu-ture of Horizon, how our members participate in the life of the church and what activities and offerings are available to deepen your spiri-tual growth. Find out how our church’s finances work and what you can expect if you choose to become a member. Meet other Horizon members and new friends during the class. You can enroll in the Exploring Horizon classes by sending an email to [email protected]. Or, look for a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center in the church lobby. Please also feel free to send any questions about the class to the email address above—we sincerely hope you will join us!

Sunday Classes for Children and Teens

August 10th

Preschool-rising Kindergartners: The Golden Rule

Our preschoolers will learn about the Golden Rule in class Sunday and link it to our Second Principle, “Be kind in all you do.” They’ll practice putting the Golden Rule into action and then make golden bracelets to remind them of how to treat others.

Rising Grades 1-4: Spreading Beauty

The 6-9 year olds will hear the book, Miss Rumphius in class, a story in which the main character spreads beauty in the world wherever she goes. Our own students will spread beauty by making clay balls of bluebonnet seeds (seed bombs) and “bombing” parts of the Hori-zon grounds so we all can enjoy beautiful flowers next spring.

Rising Grades 5-8: What is Beauty?

On Sunday the class will examine the concept of beauty and dis-cover their preconceived notions on the subject. Through the lens of the First Principle, the students will then create sculptures to repre-sent their new understanding of the word, “Beautiful.”

High School: A morning with Aly

The 9-12th graders will gather together in the sanctuary Sunday to listen to guest speaker Aly Tharp.

Super RE Volunteers

Horizon Religious Education would like to thank carpenters extraordinaire John Gill, Rowland Harvey and Floyd McGlothlin for preparing a dozen bluebird house kits for our children to assemble in class. The children will enjoy putting together the houses and we will all benefit by sup-porting the wildlife around the church.
