An environmentally responsible choiceIn some industrial applications, the only way to ght the ingress

o contaminants is by pumping large quantities o grease through

the bearing with the goal o orcing contaminants out. With sealed

SKF Explorer spherical roller bearings, contaminants are eective-

ly prevented rom entering the bearing. This reduces the need to

purchase, pump and dispose o large quantities o grease.

Ready to use, trouble-ree to installFor applications where there are moderate levels o contamination,

no additional grease or seals are necessary. Sealed bearings are

also trouble-ree to install because contaminants, which could

cause premature bearing ailure, cannot enter into the b earing

during mounting.

To increase bearing service lie in highly contaminated environ-

ments, SKF recommends lling the housing with an environmen-

tally riendly SKF grease and adding an external housing seal.

Enables sizing-downWhen compared to an open (unsealed) bearing, the higher

cleanliness level inside a sealed spherical roller bearing

makes it possible to size-down the bearing arrange-

ment without negatively aecting the perormance

o the application.

Suitable or oil-bath applicationsWhile sealed spherical roller bearings are normally grease lubri-

method is used. In these applications, the seal acts as a lter to

keep contaminants in the oil rom entering the bearing cavity. This

The SKF three-barrier solutionFor harsh operating environments, SKF recommends the three

barrier solution. This environmentally riendly, cost-eective bundle

o products can extend bearing service lie without complicated and

expensive sealing arrangements. The eectiveness o the SKF

three-barrier solution is in its simplicity. It protects the bearing

during assembly and operation.

1. SKF L-seals or S-seals – These standard,

cost-eective housing seals are characterized by

their ability to prevent the ingress o contam-

inants.

2. Housing grease – SKF recommends

lling the housing with SKF LGGB2

grease to act as a contamination

barrier. This biodegradable, environ-

mentally-riendly grease is anexcellent alternative to flling the hous-

ing with bearing grease.

3. Integral bearing seals – These very

eective seals keep the high quality

bearing lubricant in and contaminants out o

the bearing cavity.
