Be thoughtful, be silent, and be reverent, for this is the House of God. Before the service, speak to the Lord; during the service,

let the Lord speak to you; after the service, speak to one another.

M I N I S T R Y O F T H E W O R D

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of Your Love. Send forth Your Spirit and we shall be created and You shall renew the face of the earth. O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in Your consolations, through Christ our Lord, Amen. PROCESSIONAL HYMN ……………………………………..……………………….. 369 CPWI

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, Praising Thee, their Sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day.

All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Centre of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, Blooming meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean-depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortal join the mighty chorus, Which the morning stars began, Father love is reinging o'er us, Brother love binds man to man. Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife, Joyful music lifts us sunward, In the triumph song of life.

INTROIT HYMN ……………………………………..……………………………………... MEDLEY

“THIS IS THE DAY” This is the day, this is the day, That the Lord has made, that the Lord has made, I will rejoice, I will rejoice, And be glad in it, and be glad in it. This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made. “I WILL ENTER HIS GATES” I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart, I will enter His courts with praise. I will say this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad, I will rejoice for He has made me glad, glad, glad. I’M UNDER THE ROCK I’m under the Rock and the Rock is higher than I, I’m under the Rock and the Rock is higher than I, Jehovah hide me, I’m under the Rock; Go tell my enemies I’m under the Rock. IN THE NAME OF JESUS In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, We have the victory, hallelujah!

4

In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, Satan will have to flee! Tell me who can stand before us When we call on that great name Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, We have the victory!

“SURELY THE PRESENCE” Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place. I can feel His mighty power and His grace. I can hear the brush of angels wings. I see glory on each face. Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

“But they and our ancestors acted presumptuously and stiffened their necks and did not obey Your commandments;

17 they refused to

obey, and were not mindful of the wonders that You performed among them; but they stiffened their necks and determined to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and You did not forsake them.

18 Even when they had cast an image of a calf for

themselves and said, “This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt”, and had committed great blasphemies,

19 You in Your great

mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud that led them in the way did not leave them by day, nor the pillar of fire by night that gave them light on the way by which they should go.

20 You

gave Your good spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouths, and gave them water for their thirst.

Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. HYMN - 7:00 AM ……………………………….. “PRECIOUS LORD TAKE MY HAND”

Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light: Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near, When my life is almost gone, Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall: Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When the darkness appears And the night draws near, And the day is past and gone, At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand: Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As

it is written, “For Your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are

more than conquerors through Him Who loved us. 38

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in

all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God.

GRADUAL HYMN …………………………...………………………………………….. 372 CPWI Now thank we all our God, With heart, and hands, and voices, Who wondrous things hath done, In Whom His world rejoices; Who from our mother’s arms Hath blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love, And still is ours today. O may this bounteous God Through all our life be near us, With ever joyful hearts And blessed peace to cheer us;

And keep us in His grace, And guide us when perplexed, And free us from all ills In this world and the next. All praise and thanks to God The Father now be given, The Son, and Him Who reigns With Them in highest Heaven, The One Eternal God, Whom earth and Heav’n adore, For thus it was, is now, And shall be evermore.

+ THE GOSPEL + Reader: The Lord be with you. Response: And also with you. Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Matthew 14:13-21. Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

13

Now when Jesus heard this, He withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the towns.

14 When He went ashore, He saw a great

crowd; and He had compassion for them and cured their sick. 15

When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”

16 Jesus said to them,

“They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” 17

They replied, “We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.”

18 And He

6

said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19

Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.

20 And all ate and

were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.

21 And those who ate were about five thousand men,

besides women and children.

Reader: This is the Gospel of Christ. Response: Praise to Christ our Lord. POST-GOSPEL HYMN ………………..……………………………….. “ANCIENT WORDS”

Holy words long preserved, for our walk in this world, They resound with God's own heart, O let the ancient words impart Words of Life, words of Hope, give us strength, help us cope In this world, where e'er we roam, ancient words will guide us Home.

Ancient words ever true, changing me and changing you, We have come with open hearts, O let the ancient words impart

Holy words of our Faith, handed down to this age Came to us through sacrifice, O heed the faithful words of Christ. Holy words long preserved, for our walk in this world. They resound with God's own heart, O let the ancient words impart.

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea: Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word! Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me, Thy Holy Word the truth that saveth me; Give me to eat and live with Thee above; Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love. O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me, That He may touch my eyes, and make me see: Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word, And in Thy Book revealed I see Thee, Lord. Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me, As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee; Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall; And I shall find my peace, my all in all!

“LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH”

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me; Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be. With God as our Father, brothers all are we, Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.

8

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now; With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow: To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

612 CPWI

O Jesus, Blessed Lord, to Thee My heartfelt thanks for ever be, Who hast so lovingly bestow’d On me Thy Body and Thy Blood.

Break forth, my soul, for joy, and say What wealth is come to me to-day! My Saviour dwells within me now; How blest am I! how good art Thou!

CHILDREN’S HYMN ………………..……… “JESUS WANTS ME FOR A SUNBEAM” Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, To shine for Him each day; In every way try to please Him, At home, at school, at play.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam; A sunbeam, a sunbeam, I'll be a sunbeam for Him.

Jesus wants me to be loving, And kind to all I see;

Showing how pleasant and happy His little one can be. I will ask Jesus to help me, To keep my heart from sin; Ever reflecting His goodness, And always shine for Him. I'll be a sunbeam for Jesus; I can if I but try; Serving Him moment by moment, Then live with Him on high.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave; Weep over the erring one, lift up the fallen, Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Though they are slighting him, still he is waiting, Waiting the penitent child to receive; Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently; He will forgive if they only believe. Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. Rescue the perishing, duty demands it; Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide; Back to the narrow way patiently win them; Tell the poor wanderer a Saviour has died.

RECESSIONAL HYMN – 9:30 AM ……………………..………………………... 433 CPWI Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never sound retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; O be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us live to make all free; While God is marching on.

Prayer After Mass (Servers Prayer):

Glory to You Lord Jesus, glory to You. Grant that as I have served in Your presence, may we also come to serve in Your heavenly kingdom. In all things God be glorified. Amen.

Priest: The Mass is ended. Go in peace rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

People: Thanks be to God. Amen!!!

Emancipation Still Comin’ We in the Caribbean have a dependent mind. August 1st, 1834, marks a mere beginning of our pilgrimage into freedom; we still have a long, long way to go. Historically this is a region born out of the need to provide for the welfare of other countries, first Europe and then North America. I am amazed, though, how other Caribbean Countries have gone ahead of the Bahamas in intellectual development and have thus shaken off more of the colonial shackles than we have. Slavery must be condemned as the worse scourge ever to happen to any people at anytime. Next to this would be colonialism. Yet, while, this was so ungodly, how did it survive more than three hundred years in these parts as a legal institution? Further, why do Bahamians, our leaders chief among them, still have enslaved minds, promoting the idea that we must be accredited by foreign powers. The attitude still is, “white is right” and “foreign is better.” How else do you explain us holding on to colonial medals and an enslaving colonial system of honours? Why do the intellectuals have to dress up in colonial trappings to feel empowered. Why do we still swear allegiance to a white, foreign monarch? Years ago my brother got a summer job in the hotel. My grandmother was elated; she advised me, “learn your lesson and one day you’ll be just like you big brother, where you’ll have a job looking up in a white man’s face…” A priest relates his struggle to change the mind of a teenager he had adopted, her only ambition was to hold some subservient position in life. Black, local leaders today have a hard time being accepted by their peers. Worse though is the fact that when many of our own local home- grown people ascend to positions of power they act just like or even worse than slave masters or colonial overlords. They laud over their people, have them demoralized and traumatically beat their very own into subservience under the disguise of being disciplinarians. Remember, the strength of the slave trade lied in the fact that blacks turned on blacks, sold them to demoralizing slave masters and inflicted blows on them. Has the principle changed? We today are our own enemies, we haven’t learned the simple skill of loving one another to the extent of pulling each other up as we climb the ladder of success and prosperity. Oh, if we can pull our resources together we will take over economic control of this country. We gained political freedom on 10th January, 1967, and we still cannibalize one another. We got independence on 10th July, 1973, and yet we are not as fully independent as we ought to be0 as we try holding on to colonial vestiges. Now we must strike a blow for economic freedom; it is possible. Freedom comes on the train of common sense. Pray we stop killing one another. Pray for families again to be a haven of peace and joy. Pray we clean up our filthy communities, realizing that cleanliness is next to godliness. Emancipation is still comin’: We must never cease to yearn for full humanity and total emancipation. 3. FAMILY LIFE AND HEALTH CARE MINISTRIES Through the grace of God, the family life and health care will spearhead efforts for the first Sunday in the month, Family Eucharist. Your prayers and participation are invited in the following ways: • Skill-bank: complete the form that will help us establish a skill bank for the

parish • First Sunday in September (Patronal Festival) Family Eucharist at 8:15am and

back at 3:30pm. • First Sunday in October (2nd) 8:15am Family Eucharist followed by Health

Screening / Fair in the Parish Hall. • First Sunday in November (6th) and First Sunday in December (4th) one mass

only at 8:15am. Ideas to make the events that follow children friendly will be appreciated.

• Please note except for September, all first Sundays, our uniform organizations are to make corporate communion along with our youth and Sunday School. The choir will not minister at the morning mass, as the choristers are to join with the ministries they are involved in.

• There is a social that follows, each month, in the parish hall or elsewhere. We welcome ideas as to how this can best be done and by whom.

• Also take note: The ACM is to organize proceedings and give tokens on mother’s day. The ACW is to do likewise on Father’s Day. All this should
