YANKEES MANAGER JOE GIRARDI:
On Pettittes start:He never really threw a lot of pitches, 85 in the 8
thinning. He threw the ball really well.
On his decision to take Pettitte out when he did in the 8th inning:Its the 8
thinning, and that adds to it. If its the 6
thinning, its probably a different story if hes at 85 [pitches]. Hes had to
get up and down a number of times, and [Brendan] Ryan has had more success off of him - a little success, not much but I just decided to go to Robertson, and thats his job.
On Pettitte earning his 250th
win and what has meant to the organization:250 wins and a lot of postseason wins too. Hes been a great Yankee. One when you talk about the all-time greats, thatswhat hes been. Hes been a pleasure to play with, and hes been a pleasure to manage.
On whether Youkilis was okay physically:Yeah, I was worried when he slid again, but he was fine.
