DESCRIPTION

The G SP integ ra tes the c om b ination of a sta tion c lass a rrester with a p rote c tive c a p a c itor tolimit voltag e p ea ks whic h c a n co mm only stress the g ene ra tor be yond its impulse ra ting.The a rrester helps p rote c t the ge nerato r insula tion b y limiting the a mp litude of a p p liedimpulse waves or reflections within the machine windings, shunting these high voltages toground. The p rotec tive c ap a c itors red uce the slop e of the voltag e p ea k by shunting thehigh d v/d t to ground.

It has been shown that the protection of rotating machinery from overvoltage conditionsha s resulted in inc rea sed relia b ility and d ec rea sed d ow ntime.
