Kevin Raymond’s Graphic Design Class completed a new sign for the Nunda Government Center recently. With a lot of input, the students chose the best design and enlarged it onto the sign board. From there, the class worked together to paint the sign, having only one major spill. The kids were excited to be a part of a “real world” art application. They used exterior enamels which will hopefully stand the test of time and Nunda weather. The group would like to thank Larry Mallaber and the Nunda Lumber crew for helping to select the materials used. Also a thank you to Pam Dudley for helping with the spill.

Students Lend Artistic Talents to Create Sign

The High School Student Council and advisor Deb Beaumont hosted the First Ultimate Frisbee Tournament with six teams totaling 42 students participating. Ultimate Frisbee can be described as a soccer game except with a Frisbee. The winning team received a hand crafted trophy made by student James Nickerson. The first place team pictured above include: (left to right) Adam Jett, Sean Mattle, Kyle Karst, Tyler Bucci and Billy Learn. Student Ethan Trimm was the official tournament referee.

Jacob Petti and Tucker Sanford completed a challenge posed by teacher Tammy Hark to her students in the fall. Both students read 40 books at home with their parents by spring. The goal of the challenge was for students to get extra reading time in outside of school.

Special Guest Visits Second Grade

Nunda Rotarian Neil Bliss visited the second grade classroom of Cathie Gehrig. As well as reading two books to the students, he took the opportunity to talk to students about his occupation as a stock broker, explaining what a stock is and how it is used in the business world. Mr. Bliss also explained what Rotary is and the various ways the organization supports the community.

Residents of Wayland, NY I have a couple questions for you to ponder.

Let me set the stage for you why I have wrote this.

On March 7th, 2010, a call was placed to 911 for an ambulance to help an 83-year old lady at 3060 Sawdust Rd. about 2 1/2 miles from the firehouse.

I do not know how the call was sent out on how much of an urgency it was (which shouldn’t matter).

I am sad to say no one ever showed up. A call was put into Atlanta’s Ambulance crew, (which is at least twice as far from her house) it took them a little bit but they did respond. Unfortunately, I could not wait any longer and transported my mom to the hospital.

When we arrived there she had a blood pressure reading of 50 over 20 and she had a heart attack. It is with sadness that I report mom did not make it. She did live for another week before her demise.

Now I’m not saying that an ambulance would have made a difference, or that the half hour or more we waited would have made a difference, but having mom transported with people with more medical experience than I would have made us all feel better.

All I’m asking is: What is going on in OUR fire and ambulance department?

I thought when you VOLUNTEER to be on these crews, you were willing to sacrifice your time and sometimes life to help people in need. I am worried now if there will be help for me or my family (or for any one else) when the phone is picked up to make that call.

I did volunteer in Springwater’s fire department for a short time when I worked in Springwater. I also would drive from home to help in a fire or accident when there was one. Yeah, I might not have been the first one there, but I DID go to lend a hand in any way I could.

I as many other involuntarily paid for the services of these departments with our taxes. I’m OK with this as long as the services are there to help you in need.

Thank you for listening to me express my feeling at this time. I am just disappointed in a fire and ambulance company that I thought was one of the best around.

Spring cleaning alsoinvolves improving a home'soverall environment. That'sespecially true for the health-and environmentally-conscioushomeowner. One way to clean a home whilemaking it healthier and benefit-ting the environment is to rid thehome of chemical contaminantsthat can be harmful to both yourpersonal health and the airyou're breathing. Many of thesecontaminants are not associatedwith traditional spring cleaningbut can have as big an impact

as anything you do around thehouse this season.* Don't allow smoking indoors.Nearly everyone knows of thepotentially harmful physical sideeffects of smoking cigarettes.Cigarette smoke contains morethan 4,000 chemicals, includingseveral dozen that are knowncarcinogens, including formalde-hyde, ammonia, hydrogencyanide, and arsenic, amongothers. Law requiring all logging harvesters working in the Town to be registered. Registration forms

can be picked up at the Ossian Highway Garage at 4880 Ossian Hill Road, Dansville, NY. Copies of the Timber Harvesting Local Law are

also available. Contact with the Ossian Highway Superintendent, Michael

Derrenbacher must take place before any harvesting begins.

Dixie was lost on Route 390 near the South end of Dansville in October. She is slim, short haired, looks all black but has a white patch high up on her neck and lower jaw. She is very timid and

may run away, but may return if fishy cat food is put out for her.
