3 Machine description/ normal operation

3.1 Functional description of pressing machines

INDUPRESS® pressing machines are designed for the garment industry. They serve to form, smoothen and press/finish the garment and their component parts. This operation is often accompanied by temperatures as high as 120°C. The processing time per item of clothing depends on the nature of garment and also on the required program being used for this garment. It may be between 10 to 20 seconds per part with productivity of about 300 - 1100 parts in an 8-hour workday shift. With the controller (programming device), all functions can be programmed for the proper operation of the INDUPRESS® machine as required by the user. To control and monitor the machine functions and procedures, various programmable logic controller with menu-driven user interface are used. The parameters required for optimal pressing quality, performance and energy consumption can be set via the user interface and can also be precisely adjusted, controlled and monitored. 3.1.1 Different Controllers

3.3.4 Two-Hand Start Button

The two hand start buttons replaces the “start” button at the foot control pedal. These are located on certain machines for safety reasons where the loading of pressing garment requires the user to reach in area between the pressing plates and hence an accidental pushing of start button can be hazardous. Hence with these two-hand-start buttons, the operator is clear of pressing area and accidental pressing of the start pedal and its related consequences can safely be ruled out. See also "Manual ironing" with more information and pictures. [Section 4.4.11 „Manual Pressing“, Page 50].

Fig. 21 : Two-Hand Start Button

Notice

The two buttons must be pressed and held simultaneously (time difference max. 0.25 sec), until the head plate is closed and the automatic control program starts with the finishing operation.

3.3.5 Safety iron rest

The safety iron rest is equipped with a sensor to judge whether the iron is placed on the iron rest or not. The machine can only be closed if the iron is on the iron rest (sensor check). Hence any accidents which can be caused by accidental pressing on start pedal while ironing the garment with the hand iron can be ruled out.

4.3 Master-Slave mode

Find out what is meant by the master-slave mode and how it works. 4.3.1 When do we need the Master-Slave mode?

Whenever the Indumat Touch controller is used to control more than one pressing devices, the following configurations of control tasks might appear:

Two pressing machines (e. g. two trousers top presses in tandem constellation)

One Set of pressing machines with two pressing devices who work seperately (e. g. Forepart intermediate pressing, Forepart- and Back final pressing – each has one left and right device)

Carousel pressing devices with two separately operating pressing devices (head plates)

One pressing machine with two seperatly operating pressing devices (e. g. Pressing machines for shoulder final pressing or shoulder pad fusing)

4.3.2 Master-Slave mode – what is illustrated?

In master-slave mode, the numbers of pressing programs with the associated time parameters are presented, which are active in the two pressing devices. Furthermore, the name of the pressing program of the master device is displayed. The arrow indicates the processing order of the pressing devices. In the example, Fig. 40, the processing direction is from left to right. This means that unpressed parts arriving the left pressing device first, then after being pressed left they are passed to the right device.

Notice: By touching the arrow in the middle of the picture, you can change the “Master” pressing device between left and right and with this the processing direction the arrow is indicating.

The arrow points from right to left now. The direction of the program takeover will be set automatically. So you can adjust the direction of the pressing devices in the direction of the production flow in your production line.

4.3.3 Program takeover

The takeover of programs from the master to the slave pressing device is automatic. After the garment has been pressed on the master pressing device, the program will be given to the slave pressing device. With this, a right and a left part of the same clothing (e. g. jacket foreparts) are surely pressed with the same program parameters. Example of use: You want to press the two shoulders of a jacket with the same program. But shoulders are two shapes which are symmetrically mirrored. The machine therefore has the two mirrored pressing shapes on two pressing devices, one left and one right device. The one shoulder has to be pressed on the master device first. Afterwards the automatic program takeover happens. With this, the slave device is ready to press the second shoulder with the same program. 4.3.4 Calling the Master-Slave mode

Step Action Figure

1 Touch the „Drop down box“ to select the operation mode.

2

The box „drops down“ and offers the possible choices. Change to the master-slave mode by means of touching the respective text. Notice: The master-slave mode is only available on pressing machines which contains two pressing devices (section 4.3.1 – page 33).

3

Choose the pressing program on the master device you whant to use. After pressing once with the choosen program, it will be automatically taken over to the slave device.

4 By means of the „Drop down box“ you can call the Standard mode at any time.

Notice: In the „standard mode“ both pressing devices are wo rking with the same indicated program, shown on the mainsscreen/standar d mode.

4.4.8 Automatic reference cycle

Here you will find informations about how to perform an automatic reference cycle. It is recommended to do this on a regular cycles (weekly) and especially after a renewal of covering materials (daily, for the first 3 days). What is the automatic reference cycle? During the automatic reference cycle, the homing of the upper plate zero point is determined.

The homing of the upper plate zero position has to be performed after a renewal of covering materials in order to measure the distance between the upper plate and lower plate exactly. The program functions “head plate – distance” and “head plate – up and down (movement)” are directly dependent on this.

We even recommend weekly referencing , since the covering materials are subjected of compression and become thinner, before the wear limit is reached.

Before you start Before you can perform the automatic reference cycle, you must have booted the controller properly - Main Screen "Standard" or Main Screen "Master-Salve" are displayed. [Section 4.1.8 Page 25 and Section 4.1.9 Page 25]. Starting the reference cycle Perform the automatic reference cycle as follows:

7 Glossary

Bargraph Graphic display of the measured setting value, showing modifications through the length of the bar in accordance with the set value.

Button / Push button

The usual button is an operational item which is mostly performed as a push button. It is used to connect or interrupt electric lines. Unlike the switch, you can not see wether a button was pressed.

Button / Touch switch

A frequently used variation of button is the touch switch. The touch switch is a specific feature for touch-screen operation. The button is drawn on the touch-screen – as soon as you touch it, a certain action will follow.

CE marking

Designation for specific products according to the laws of the EU (European Union) in connection with the product safety within the European Economic Area (EEA) and the European Community (EC) being a part thereof. With the CE marking the manufacturer confirms the conformity of the product to the applying EC directives and the compliance with the “fundamental requirements“ stipulated therein.

CF – Compact Flash (Memory card)

CompactFlash (CF) is a mass storage device format used in portable electronic devices. For storage, CompactFlash typically uses flash memory in a standardized enclosure. The INDUMAT Touch controllers are using CF cards as a main data storage, replacing the Flash ROM of former controller versions. All the data is held there – currently required process data are loaded to the RAM memory for faster performance.

Controller User interface, Programming unit, PLC, Operation panel.

Display User interface

EC declaration of conformity

The EC declaration of conformity is the basis of the CE marking of the respective product. With the EC declaration of conformity the manufacturer confirms that a product circulated by him complies with, e.g. is in agreement with, the basic health and safety requirements of all relevant European directives.

finish, finishing Final treatment of garments

Icon A graphical symbol, resembling or analogous to the thing it represents. Icons enabling non-lingual user guidance.

Main picture/main screen The main screen ist the main user interface, which appears after turning on the controller by means of the „release“ key.

Master-Slave mode

The master-slave mode requires that two independently operating pressing devices are controlled from the same user interface (e. g. the left and the mirrored, right pressing device of the same processing step). One machine works first - this is the “master” machine on which the working parameters can be determined. The other machine works as a second - this is the “slave” machine which gets all the working parameters of the “master” machine sent.

Pop-up A pop-up is a suddenly appearing message or information on a currently pending event.

Start screen The start screen means the user interface which appears as soon as the control has been started resp. after the button >Entry< has been pushed.

Switch

A switch is an operational item, which is connecting or interrupting electric lines. After activation, a switch contact will remain stable in the respective switch position. There is two switch contact types: NO = normaly open contact (with activation the contact will close) and NC = normaly closed contact (with activation the contact will open)

Timeout A fixed time limit for a certain process was exceeded – the process was stopped and the timeout alert appears.

Touch-screen

Monitor (computer operation / user interface) which controls the run of the program after a touch on parts of a picture (Pictogram). The technical implementation of the command entry is practically "transparent" to the user.

USB stick Universal-Serial-Bus-Stick; small storage medium resp. data memory
