www.mwb.org.nz 1 The quarterly newsletter of Mission Without Borders New Zealand August 2014 MISSIONWITHOUTBORDERS “Your Investment Changed My Life” Raluca Raluca is an 18 year old high school student and recently shared her dreams for the future. “My name is Raluca and I am a final year student at high school in Sibiu, Romania. I am studying the Humanities course which subjects include foreign languages (English mostly), Romanian, Literature and History. History is my favourite subject. Since I was little I have always wanted to become an archaeologist. The costs for schooling are high for my family because there are seven children. My mother and father are separated and my mother works hard as a nurse to support the entire family. During the last two years I taught English lessons to children to pay for my books and other expenses. I will study at the History College in Sibiu because my family still needs me to help them. I will have to raise money to pay college fees, books and other needs, like archaeological camps etc. I would really like the opportunity to receive one of MWB’s scholarships to enable me to go to college and study my passion without it being a financial burden on my family. Hopefully one day I will be that famous archaeologist that I have always wanted to be. All in all this scholarship will help me support my family while doing what I love”.

“Your Investment Changed My Life”

Raluca Raluca is an 18 year old high school student and recently shared her dreams for the future.

During the last

two years I taught English lessons to children to pay for my books and other expenses.

22 Education in FOCUS | AUGUST 2014

Mirand The State electrical training course for Mirand is coming to an end. Soon he will become a professional electrician. For Mirand it has equipped him with important skills to find employment and also to offer his services to those he comes in contact with.

Education is one of the most important steps in achieving financial independence and self-sufficiency so MWB encourages all of the children in our programs to do their best in school and to complete the highest level of education possible. MWB also provides some with scholarships for school fees, transportation and school supplies.

EDUCATION MEMO FROM MWB

“I want to heartily thank Mission Without Borders (and my sponsors) for offering the opportunity to acquire skills to become an electrical technician. I am privileged to be supported by you – your investment has changed my life.”

SUMMER CAMPS FINISH SOON Special thanks to everyone who has contributed to send children to camp this year. Camps in Bulgaria have just finished and continue in August in Romania. In Ukraine, we managed to get 680 children to summer camps this year, for which we are thankful because at one point it looked as if camps were in doubt because we could not use any camp facilities. We have good reports from Albania, Bosnia and Moldova, and look forward to further contact with the children in the coming months.

PRISONCAREWe are delighted to report a generous response to our request for help to help fund packs of hygiene articles and much needed things for prisoners in Bulgaria, Albania and Bosnia. So far we have raised enough to be able to supply care packs and other help to over 700 prisoners, which is tremendous. Many thanks to all supporters.

UKRAINE NEWSMWB Ukraine has delivered a 15 tonne truckload of aid to war-torn Slovyansk. Roofing materials, clothing, shoes, nappies, beds, bottled water and other things were taken. Two groups of Christian builders from Rivne (where we are based) went to Slovyansk specifically to repair roofs. Houses and infrastructure have been destroyed. People are shaken. Director Mykola Bohdanets who accompanied the aid delivery to Slovyansk met with local officials and priests there to talk and pray together. With help from the Mission and other churches and groups, local churches have been able to demonstrate God’s love with practical help.
