New Delhi: If youre looking tobuy a flat in the interiors of Noi-da or in Greater Noida, heressome good news. Delhi Metro isextending its existing Dwarka-Noida City Center corridor tillSector 62 and, thereafter, to Grea-ter Noida. The Sector 52 stationwill be an interchange station

for another Metro line plannedfor Greater Noida.

The alignment of the NoidaCity Center extension till Sector62a distance of 6.6kmwillconnect Noida with the heart ofDelhi. One of the longest corri-dors in the Delhi Metro network, the extension will pass throughsectors 34, 51, 59 and 62 to Elec-tronic City.

The proposed extension willstart from the dead end of the ex-isting Noida City Center stationand run straight along themedian of Captain Shashi KantMarg for about 2.2km before tak-ing a left turn near Sector 52. Itwill run straight on the medianof road leading to Sector 62 andalong NH-24 for about 4.5km.

While taking the left turnfrom Captain Shashi Kant Margtowards Electronic City, it hasbeen kept in view that there willbe a need in the future to havegrade separator arrangement

(with clover leaves) at this cross-ing, said a Delhi Metro Rail Cor-poration (DMRC) official.

    The length of the extension

from dead end of Noida CityCenter station to the planneddead end near NH-24 is 6.675km.In Noida, the existing corridorhas stations in sectors 15, 16 and18, Botanical Garden, GolfCourse and Noida City Center.

Botanical Garden station isplanned as an interchange sta-tion for the Janakpuri-BotanicalGarden line of Ph-III, the offi-

cial added. This corridor will be36km long with over 20 stations. It is one of the two corridorscoming up in Phase III of the net-work.

The extension to ElectronicCity and beyond is expected to

give a boost to the connectivityin NCR. What makes the align-ment exciting, according to Del-hi Metro, is the plan to have Noi-

da Sector 52 as an interchangestation for the Metro lineplanned for Greater Noida.

The recommended networkin the Revised Metro Plan for2021 prepared by DMRC totalleda length of 413.83km, compris-

The driver verification bythe vendor, which will now beundertaken for its pool ofdrivers who have signed onwith Uber, comes as an extralevel of safety feature, said Ub-er representatives. It includes

address verification as well aslocal and national search ofcriminal database for verify-ing the antecedents of the

driver partner. Uber, however, refused to divulge the resultsof the pilot project on driververification that had been un-

dertaken by the vendor al-ready for the company.

New Delhi: Acclaimed Indiansculptor Mrinalini Mukherjeepassed away in the capital onMonday evening after a briefillness. The daughter of semi-nal Santiniketan artists Be-node Behari and Leela Mukher-

jee, the 65-year-old was highlyregarded for her knotted hemprope sculptures.

It's a medium very few Indi-an artists have worked with. Itcaught her eye at a crafts melawhile she was doing a diplomain mural design at Vadodara'sMS University. The initialworks were very tentative butslowly the rope came off thewall, and the figures took a lifeof their own. The death of hermother in 2003 prompted a shiftto another medium. "It was as ifthe knots were tying me down,''she told TOI in an interview in2010. Mukherjee moved to wax, clay, ceramic and th en bronze all materials she preferred tosynthetic polymers and fibreglass. Growing up in Dehradungave her a love of the outdoorsand though her mediumchanged several times, the orga-nic life of plants remained adominant theme in her art. Inher early works with rope, Muk-herjee created large landscapeslike Waterfall as well as smallerpieces like Amaltash, Sunflow-ers, Date Palm and Cactus. There were also forest clusterscalled Vriksha-Nat or Arboreal

Enactment. The flora also took on sensu-

ous and anthropomorphic in-terpretations complete with hu-man features and phalluses inknotted life-size forms like Pu-rush and Prithvi.

Three of her works were dis-played at the Sydney Biennalein 1986, making Mukherjee thefirst Indian artist to show at theprestigious event. Quite amaz-ing for someone who didn'twant to be an artist, and was al-ways untouched by the art mar-ket hype. "I wanted to be a doctoror a chartered accountant. Allthe artists my parents knew inSantiniketan were poor. Evenmy parents didn't make a livingfrom art," the artist who wasknown as Dillu had told TOI. Amajor retrospective of her workopened at the National Galleryof Modern Art on Jan 27 butMukherjee had to be hospital-ized the day before. The crema-tion will be at 3pm at Lodhi Roadcrematorium on Wedn esday.
