Practice 02A-1: Setting Up Initial Data

Goals To review some initial data set up by Oracle

To enable validation for Australian geography

To set up geography for New Zealand

    Time

    15 minutes

    Overview

In this practice you will first verify some initial data set up for your environment. Then you will move on to setting up some geographies. First, you will enable validation for Australian geography at the State level. Then for New Zealand geography, you will create a structure, define a hierarchy, and set up validation. You will use country, region, and city in this exercise.

NOTE: If your task page does not draw correctly, you are probably using an unsupported browser or browser version.

    Tasks

    1. TASK: Review/Update the initial data that Oracle set up for our enterprise DETAILED STEPS:

    a. Sign in to the Desktop UI as bala.gupta.

    b. Click the Navigator Icon in the top right corner of the screen

    c. Click Setup and Maintenance in the Tools section.

    d. In the Search area in the Name field, type Manage Enterprise HCM Information and click Search.

    e. In the Go to Task column, click the Go to Task Icon

Whats the name of the company in this course?

What language will a persons name appear in by default?

Click Done to return to the Overview page for Setup and Maintenance.

NOTE: If you need to correct the information in your own implementation (not our demo environment), click Edit > Correct. If you update any data, be sure to cancel out without making any changes.

    f. Go to this setup task: Define Default Proposal Owner

NOTE: Generally, the person who creates a territory proposal is stamped as the owner. However, in some cases, the system will automatically generate a territory proposal. Therefore, you want to specify a default owner, a person who will be able to follow up on the notification if this occurs.

Who is the person at your enterprise who will become the owner of any territory proposals that the system generates?

Can you change this to a different person, or is it read-only?

Click Cancel or if changes are made, Save and Close.

    2. TASK: Define validation for Australian geography. You must perform this step so that later practice exercises work properly.

    DETAILED STEPS

    a. Go to this setup task: Manage Geographies

    b. Locate Australia.

A check mark in the column means that the step has been defined. You are going to review the already-defined steps and then define validation, which has not yet been done.

    c. Click the Structure Defined icon and verify that all geography levels are selected.

    d. Click the Hierarchy Defined icon and review the values.

    e. Click the Validation Defined icon.

    f. In the Geography Mapping and Validation section, highlight the State row.

    g. Scroll to the right if needed and select the Geography Validation check box. This means that validation will occur for Australian states but not at a more granular level.

    j. Click Save and Close.

    3. TASK: Manually set up geography for New Zealand (Country, Region, and City).

    DETAILED STEPS

    a. In the Manage Geographies search, locate New Zealand.

Notice that the Hierarchy Defined and Validation Defined task icons are disabled.

You cannot define a hierarchy or geography validation before defining your country's geographical structure.

    b. Click Actions and notice that the Import Nokia Data is not available because New Zealand is not yet a supported country.

    c. Click the Structure Defined task icon.

Notice that no structure is currently defined. Also notice that you could copy the structure from an existing country structure if you had one.

    d. Click Create.

In the Add Geography Type list, notice that Region is not an option.

    e. Click the Create and Add Geography Type button.

    f. Enter Region and save the new type.

    g. In the Add Geography Type list, select City.

    c. Click the Create icon.

    d. Verify that you are on the Create Region page.

    e. In the Primary and Alternate Names section, enter Auckland Region for the Name.

    f. In the Primary and Alternate Codes section, click the Add icon.

    g. Set:

    Code AUCKLAND_Region

    Code Type Unknown

Note: Geographical codes are used to provide standardized abbreviations for geographical regions; for example, CA for California. Countries have geographical codes defined by the International Standards Organization (ISO). In the United States, the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) provides two-letter codes for states. You may identify primary cities using the Primary City code type, and geographical taxation zones using the Tax Geography Code type. If none of these code types apply, use Unknown.

You can use the entire city and region names for your codes or abbreviations.

    h. Click Save and Close. Next, you will add city names for the Auckland Region.

    i. Select the row for Auckland Region.

    j. Click the Create icon.

    k. Verify that you are on the Create City page.

    l. In the Primary and Alternate Names section, set Name = Auckland City.
