20th June 2021 (Year B)

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This Sunday begins Refugee Week.

It is an appropriate time to be reminded just how much this issue affects every resident in Australia no matter how far away we try to “hide” these fellow human beings who desire no more than what we desire. It is also a very appropriate day for the ‘Be the Voice’ Information and Discussion event to be held here at Sts Peter and Paul’s, Bulimba. You are most welcome to attend and

details are on the website.

The Plenary Council, which commenced three years ago with widespread consultation under the theme ‘What is the Spirit saying to us in Australia today?’ is now approaching the critical stage of the gathering of people from across the nation. In October this year the Fifth Plenary Council will be a combination of face to face and online discussion.

Once again the involvement of as many people as possible is vital for its success.

Fan the Flame is a prayer and resource package that can be used by groups and individuals. The Newsletter will carry a reminder and invitation each week to assist our prayer and participation but you can also use the resource in your own home. www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/fantheflame/ The success of this important time rests as always on the power of the Holy Spirit who through prayer is alive and active among us.

*** Many thanks to the school community who assisted with the family Mass last Sunday. It was a wonderful morning with a number of ministries led by young people. We very much look forward to another opportunity of gathering together for worship and a friendly and relaxed Sunday morning.

God bless,

Fr Kevin

Who’s Job is it? – This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

CARERS’ MEETING for anyone caring for someone with a physical or mental illness, 10am Tuesday 22 June in the Parish Hall. All welcome.

An invitation to join in PRAYING THE ROSARY on Saturdays from 5pm in the Parish Hall. This will be guided by a Power Point presentation with images and meditations. The Rosary is basically a gospel prayer for those who pray it properly. It is, as Sr Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries, said, ‘a simple method of getting closer to God’. Everyone is welcome.

The afternoon will also involve guest speakers and feature a Q&A panel discussion with leaders from our wider Brisbane community involved in refugee advocacy and support. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how we can all be the voice to act on behalf of our refugee sisters and brothers, many of whom are in our community today and in need of support. Come along, bring your friends. All are warmly invited to be part of our parish’s voice on behalf of those whose own voices are silenced by injustice.

GATHERING SONG

CHRIST BE BESIDE ME

Christ be beside me, Christ be before me, Christ be behind me, King of my heart. Christ be within me, Christ be below me, Christ be above me, never to part.

Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand, Christ all around me, shield in the strife. Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting, Christ in my rising, light of my life.

Christ be in all hearts thinking about me, Christ be in all tongues, telling of me. Christ be the vision in eyes that see me, In ears that hear me, Christ ever be.

PENITENTIAL ACT GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us

For you alone are the holy one, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the most high, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, (all bow) born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

SANCTUS

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power God of might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION

Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.

LAMB OF GOD Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

COMMUNION HYMN

WE COME TO YOUR FEAST

We place upon your table a gleaming cloth of white, The weaving of our stories, the fabric of our lives; The dreams of those before us, the ancient hopeful cries, The promise of our future, our needing and our nurture Lie here before eyes.

We come to your feast, we come to your feast, The young and the old, the frightened, the bold, The greatest and the least. We come to your feast, we come to your feast, With the fruit of our lands and the work of our hands We come to your feast.

We place upon your table a humble loaf of bread, The gift of field and hillside, the grain by which we’re fed; We come to taste the presence of him on whom we feed, To strengthen and connect us, to challenge and correct us To love in word and deed.

We place upon your table a simple cup of wine, The fruit of human labour, the gift of sun and vine; We come to taste the presence of him we claim as Lord. His dying and his living, his leading and his giving, His love in cup outpoured.

We gather ‘round your table, we pause within in our quest, We stand beside our neighbours, we name the stranger “guest” The feast is spread before us, you bid us come and dine. In blessing we’ll uncover, in sharing we’ll discover Your substance and your sign.

RECESSIONAL HYMN

SING OF THE LORD’S GOODNESS

Sing of the Lord’s goodness, Father of all wisdom, Come to him and bless his name. Mercy he has shown us, His love is forever, faithful to the end of days.

CHORUS

Come, then, all you nations, sing of your Lord’s goodness, Melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord’s glory, praise him with your music, worship him and bless his name.

Power he has wielded, honour is his garment, Risen from the snares of death. His word he has spoken, One bread he has broken, new life he now gives to all.
