Counselling and psychotherapy

If you’re over 55 and registered with a Camden GP, you can use our service to talk through any emotional issues or concerns in a confidential and non judgemental way. You can self-refer or be referred by your GP or other health professional.

Your counsellor will not give you advice or tell you what to do, but will work with you to make changes and develop a greater understanding of yourself and your life. If you’re housebound we can visit you at home. Our service can help if you have early stage dementia. Group therapy is also available.

Dementia Wellbeing and BefriendingLiving with dementia can bring many challenges. Age UK Camden is a specialist in dementia care and we have a range of services to help you. We can also support partners, carers and friends.

Dementia WellbeingOur Wellbeing team can work with you on a one to one basis if you have memory impairment or dementia. Over six months we can help you create a personal plan to improve your health and wellbeing and connect you with other support available in Camden.

Dementia BefriendingIf you’re an older person with dementia or memory impairment, befrienders can visit you at home or join you in activities you enjoy doing outside. Befrienders are trained and DBS (criminal record) checked and we aim to match you with a befriender that you’ll have something in common with.

Direct payment support

Direct payments are payments from the council that give you more flexibility and control in arranging your own social care services. If you’re eligible, we can explain how the scheme works, help you complete the application form and help you with managing your care package. We can also offer support with payroll, recruiting carers and general advice.

You’ll be invited to regular user meetings where you can discuss any issues or concerns and we can also put you in touch with existing users.

Good Neighbours Befriending Scheme

Our Good Neighbours Scheme offers befriending and companionship. We’ll match you with a trained and checked volunteer who will visit you on a regular basis. If you are isolated, housebound or living with a disability, you will be prioritised for this service.

Our scheme covers NW3 and we can signpost you to other schemes in the borough if you live outside of these areas.

The Information and Advice team can help with one-off queries as well as more complex issues and can also offer support on planning for the future (wills, funerals and lasting power of attorney). They can also support you with direct payments, do benefit checks to maximise your income and much more.

You can get help by phone, email or appointment and outreach sessions at community locations.

Internet Shopping Service

If you’re no longer able to get out and about our shopping service can help you to remain independent for longer. With a weekly call from our friendly staff, this service is a great addition to a care package as it frees up your carer to focus on direct support and care.

Once you’ve registered for the service, we’ll telephone you at an agreed day and time to take your order. We’ll place your order online at a supermarket of your choice and your shopping will be delivered at an agreed time.

The service costs £5.00 per call with an additional charge from the supermarket for delivery. You can sign up for a regular call or one off help.

Nail care

If you’re over 50 and unable to cut you own toenails (and aren’t receiving a toenail cutting service from the NHS) this simple toenail and fingernail cutting service can help you to remain mobile and active.

We’ll need approval from your GP or other health professional to register you for the service and there is a small fee. We offer the service at Henderson Court Resource Centre in Hampstead and Kentish Town Health Centre on Barthlomew Road.
