OLD WEST AND WILD WEST
During the XIXth century the United States of America are expanded to the Pacific Coast. This area was known as Old West and Wild West.
The President Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory to the French Republic in 1803.

The Louisiana territory included all or part of 15
present states and two Canadian provinces:
Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas,
Nebraska and some parts of Minnesota. Most
Dakota, northeastern New Mexico, northern Texas,
the portions of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
Louisiana west of the Mississippi River, including
the city of New Orleans; and small portions of land
that would become part of the Canadian provinces
of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

This incessant and prolonged migration of
people moved westward ancient cultures
and oppressed ethnic minorities of
Amerindians.
In contrast , the period elicited significant
progress in industry, communications and
agriculture, in many cases at the cost of
intensive exploitation of human and
natural resources .
LEWIS AND CLARK EXPEDITION
The Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the CORPS OF
DISCOVRERY EXPEDITION, was the first American expedition to
cross what is now the western portion of the United States,
departing in May, 1804 from St.Louis on the Mississipi River,
making their way westward through the continental divide to
the Pacific coast.
It started in 1804 and finished in 1806.
