SUBJECTWATER LEAK AT DELTA SASH/SIDE MIRROR
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains repair instructions for eliminating water leaks in the delta sash/side mirror area of the door on 2000-03 Eclipse & 2001-03 Eclipse Spyder.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Customers may report that water is entering the vehicle in the area of the radio tweeter speaker on the delta sash. The water runs down the interior of the door panel onto the floor. This usually occurs during heavy downpours or during high-pressure car washing. In some cases the water travels through the door and onto the door speaker, damaging the speaker and/or the Infinity amplifier.
This condition is caused by improper sealing in the delta sash/side mirror area of the door. Instructions are included for sealing around the delta sash/side mirror

PROCEDURE
1. Clean the surfaces of the delta sash and the side mirror with alcohol or lacquer thinner.
2. Starting at the rear of the mirror/delta sash, apply two lengths of fine line tape (3M p/n 06405) in a parallel pattern along the top and rear (diagonal and vertical) surfaces of the delta sash. The gap between the two tape lengths should be 1/4 inch. Also, make sure that the edge of the tape is approximately 1/8 inch from the edge of the delta sash where it contacts the outside mirror.
3. Referring to the photo, tape the front end of the delta sash as shown to keep the application of sealant in the correct area for proper sealing.
4. If necessary, us a single edge razor to trim any excess tape to eliminate "buckling or folding" of the tape at the mirror/delta sash apex. Refer to the photo.
5. Using Permatex Black RTV Silicone sealant (p/n 16BR) or equivalent, apply a 1/8 inch continuous bead of sealant between the two fine line tape lines on diagonal and vertical surfaces of the delta sash/ mirror assembly.
6. With a wet finger, smooth out the silicone bead so the silicone is smooth and uniformly flat. Allow the silicone to "tack over" or cure for about 20 minutes. Carefully remove the fine line tape from the mirror/delta sash assembly.
After drying, the silicone bead will provide a permanent flexible seal between the mirror and the delta sash, preventing water entry into the door.
