1.1 Applications of Performance IndicesKPI

Key Performance Indices (KPI) is one of the important parts of performance statistics. Itis used to help operators define the key performance indexes and evaluate whether theseindices meet the design requirement.

KPI reflects the conditions of the running network and the resource use. It can be used toguide operators in managing and optimizing network, providing important reference datafor network maintenance management and planning.

Performance Counters

For description of the measurement items in performance indices, refer to ZXUNxGW eXtendable GateWay GGSN Performance Counter Reference I and ZXUN xGWeXtendable GateWay GGSN Performance Counter Reference II.

1.2 Introduction to Performance Indices FormulasPerformance Indices

Performance indices are used to evaluate the equipment performance. A number ofperformance indices are already preset for the system based on general applications.Performance indices are obtained through four arithmetic operations on a number ofmeasurement items.

Calculation Formula

The number in a calculation formula stands for a measurement item, such as C043560051.The five digits from the left to the right after the letter C stand for the internal number ofa measurement type, and the last four digits altogether stand for the internal number of acounter. You can search a measurement type by types of the performance indices, andsearch a specific counter by the measurement type.

An Example for Calculation Formulas

For example, in the formula 100 × C043530014 / C043530013 for “Ratio of SuccessfulActivation Initiated”, the involved measurement items include:

l C043530013: GGSN Session Measurement, Times of attempted PDP contextactivations

l C043530014: GGSN Session Measurement, Times of successful PDP contextactivations

Where:

l “GGSN Session Measurement” refers to the measurement type of the measurementitem, which belongs to the measurement object type of GGSN global measurement.

l “Times of attempted PDP context activations” and “Times of successful PDP contextactivations” refer to the specific measurement items of the measurement type, that is,the names for the counters. For the description and triggering point of the counters.

Therefore, the formula for “Ratio of Successful Activation Initiated” is 100 × Times ofsuccessful PDP context activations / Times of attempted PDP context activations.
