MISSION STATEMENTThe Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center, part of the government of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, is a nonprofit educational institution that seeks to further knowledge and understanding of the richness and diversity of the indigenous cultures and societies of the United States and Canada.

To accomplish this mission, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center will conduct and support research and the development of ethnographic, archival, library, and archaeological collections. They provide programs and exhibits that encourage interaction with and among indigenous peoples, the general public, and the scholarly community.

MUSEUM HISTORYTribally owned and operated since its opening on August 11, 1998, the Museum brings to life the story of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. It serves as a major resource on the history and culture of Native Americans in the northeast and on the region’s rich natural history. The Museum is a 308,000 square foot complex, consisting of permanent exhibits, the Mashantucket Gallery, a gallery for temporary exhibits, classrooms, a 327-seat auditorium, restaurant, a museum shop and administrative offices. The Research Center houses the collections, a library, a children’s library, archives, archaeology and conservation laboratories. Multi-sensory dioramas and exhibits introduce visitors to the history of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, and the natural and cultural history of the eastern woodlands. Films and videos, interactive programs, archival materials, ethnographic and archaeological collections, commissioned art, and traditional crafts by Native artisans are featured in the exhibits. The building is designed to interact with its surrounding environment while maintaining the ecological integrity of the area. It embraces the tree line and is nestled into the landscape; two of the five levels of the facility are below ground. A 185-foot, stone and glass tower provides visitors with sweeping views of the swamp and region. The large, circular, glass and steel Gathering Space serves as an arrival area. The

restaurant features a variety of Native American cuisines, and the museum shop specializes in contemporary Native American arts and crafts.

THE TRIBEThe Mashantucket Pequots are a native Algonquin people in Southeastern Connecticut known for their “Pequot spirit of survival.” Their unprecedented story can be relived in vivid detail at the Tribe’s world-renowned Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center. The tenacity of the Mashantucket Pequots brought them through centuries of persecution to economic prominence today. Since opening one of the first Native American gaming halls in the country in 1986, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has also developed a host of lucrative economic ventures including the Lake of Isles Golf Course and the Spa at Norwich Inn. The Tribe provides significant financial contributions to state and local nonprofit organizations that support neighboring communities.

THE SPACEThe Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center features 85,000 square feet of permanent, indoor exhibitions including life-size dioramas in the Pequot Village, films, and interactive computer programs. Group discounts as well as private and after-hours tours are available.

The Museum also offers a spectacular 14,773 square-foot glass enclosed atrium known as the “Gathering Space” for weddings, galas, proms or any elegant affair, a 20,000 square-foot outdoor garden terrace, a 327-seat auditorium for presentations or entertainment, additional dining for 300, and several other meeting rooms and unique event opportunities. Each space offers full catering and bar services.

Edward Allen, Executive ChefA native of the Pacific Northwest, Executive Chef Edward Allen has earned a reputation in the culinary world as a hands-on perfectionist in the kitchen who is passionate about excellence. Whether he is serving a small, private event or overseeing a meal function for hundreds of conference attendees, Chef Allen is known to obsess over the nuances that create memorable dining experiences. Having been instrumental in celebrated luxury resort kitchens from Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa & Casino, to the Westin Resort Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Orlando, Chef Allen is fond of saying, “I get great satisfaction in making food people will remember.”

Franck Iglesias, Executive Pastry ChefGrowing up north of Paris in the town of Argenteuil, Foxwoods’ Executive Pastry Chef Franck Iglesias was raised with the culinary arts — his mother was devoted to traditional French cooking at home, and his father was also a beloved restaurant chef. While still a teenager, Chef Iglesias entered Andorra Culinary School, where he was formally educated in the fine art of French cuisine. He then proceeded to Perpignan near the Mediterranean coast, where he mastered pâtisserie as only the French can teach it. Like all true practitioners of the culinary arts, Chef Iglesias spent years in renowned kitchens in Europe and the United States, garnering praise and having his writing work published in Food & Wine, Gourmet, Art Culinaire, and Modern Bride. Now supervising a staff of 40 like-minded pastry magicians at Foxwoods, Chef Iglesias prepares delectable desserts that event planners can’t stop raving about.
