President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Zetech University Founder and Chairman to the Board of Trustees Eng. Ken Mbiuki for his tireless commitment, resilience and fearless

innovation in turning challenges into opportunity.

Speaking while presiding over the official opening of the university complex in Ruiru, the president noted that investment in education is an investment in the Social, Political and Economic progress of our Country. “We congratulate Ken Mbiuki for nursing his dream of an ICT school from college, and building it to what is now Zetech”, said the president.

The president further gave a nod of approval to efforts being made by the institution in providing affordable access to higher education in Kenya.

“I am delighted that Zetech University has invested heavily in the acquisition of high quality infrastructure, equipment and resources; which are essential ingredients for the provision of high quality ter-tiary education”, said the president.

The president emphasized that education stands as one of his gov-ernment’s key priorities and that’s why the government continues to

offer assistance to all players in the education sector so as to improve the overall state of education in Kenya.

“My Government is conscious of the fact that education is integral to breaking the vicious cycle of poverty that for too long has been the bane of our Nation. Education plays a vital role in our Nation’s development by empowering both individuals and communities by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to achieve a better tomorrow”, said the president.

The rising of Zetech University traces its roots back to 1997 when Engineer Ken Mbiuki then an engineering student at the University of Nairobi, established Zenith Technologies and started training ICT re-lated short courses from his university hostel room. The word Zenith is of Greek origin and is used to characterize the concept of being ‘At the Very Top’.

In 1999, driven by huge demand for ICT training and other tertiary education courses, Zetech College was established from the direct incorporation of the words Zenith and Technologies. The college then embarked on a 15 year strategic blueprint manual that outlined the aspiration of attaining university status in 15 years.

Zetech University Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Eng. Ken Mbiuki has celebrated Zetech’s remarka-ble impact in improving the living standards of Kenyans. The

Chairman noted that it was a dream come true for the university to witness the opening of the new Zetech University Complex after 18 years through which period over 40,000 alumni have passed through its learning system.

Giving the Zetech story which like many Kenyan Dream emanates from humble beginnings, Eng. Mbiuki said the idea to establish the institution was driven by the then need to satisfy the huge demand for Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills amongst his student colleagues.

“The Zetech Story has its roots from humble beginnings. The jour-ney began 18 years ago in a tiny cubicle (Room 316) in Hall 13 hostel at the University of Nairobi; then at 22 years old while stud-ying Mechanical Engineering, I began saving money earned from doing odd jobs in order to buy one second-hand computer as part of my quest to quench the growing thirst for ICT skills amongst my campus colleagues”, observes Eng. Mbiuki.

Speaking during the official opening of Zetech University Complex by President Uhuru on August 21st, Eng. Mbiuki noted that the university which began has a small college has grown to become a leading trainer in several sectors of the economy.

“Initially established as Zenith Technologies, the college immedi-ately lived up to the true meaning of the word Zenith which means the peak or the very best, to become a leading centre for ICT and Engineering tertiary education. Driven by huge demand for higher education in the country, the college devotedly broadened its areas of specialization to include Business, Hospitality, Media and Devel-opments studies. 18 years later, Zetech now stands as The Zetech University”, said Eng. Mbiuki.

Nation needs in order to achieve our collective dreams for a better tomorrow.

The president was speaking while presiding the official opening of Zetech University Complex in Ruiru, a 40,000sq feet building fitted with modern learning facilities at a cost of KSh 600m.

“To the students I say, make the best use of your time here as well as the world class facilities and resources made available to you. This is not the time to relax or rest on your laurels. Joining University is not an achievement in of itself; it is the beginning of your lifelong journey of continual self-development and perpetual learning”, observed the president.

The president was quick to remind students that there are limitless opportunities for the young people as they are living in extra ordinary times. “Students of Zetech University; now is the time to invest in your future. Your hard work and sacrifice now will pay huge dividends just a few short years from now. Do not let the allure of short-term pleasures and counterproductive indulgences rob you of your bright future.

I urge you, and your counterparts in both Public and Private Institu-tions to shun the negative culture and actions that result in them mak-ing newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons”, said the president.

Crafting the Perfect Gift for President Uhuru Kenyatta

For Joash Odhiambo, it would have been an ordinary Friday; a day he juggled his classes, painting at his workshop in Kahawa Wendani, Nairobi and the football practice ahead of the week-

end’s inter-university tournaments across the country.

But this particular one was different because the Zetech University Student, taking his Diploma in Tour Guiding Operations, was going to experience an unusual moment with the President of the Repub-lic of Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ahead of the anticipated visit by His Excellency to officially open the Zetech University Complex in Ruiru, Joash had put numerous hours of work into creating a perfect painting depicting the President’s anticipated experience at Zetech coupled with an appreciation mes-sage to the Commander-in-Chief.

“It was a great and emotional time for me as I gathered the right strokes and theme for a perfect gift for President Uhuru,” shared Joash, commending the varsity’s management for encouraging tal-ent and creating such opportunities for talented students.

During the event, the President zealously engaged the university’s management as he toured the facility and endorsed the university

as one to look out for as it embarks on a growth strategy to cater to thousands of youth in Kenya and beyond.

After the tour, Joash tells of his concealed pride and joy as he heard his name called out to join the President on the dais and present the beautiful painting:

“It was an amazing and indescribable feeling to share the stage with the President and award him with an appreciative gift that communi-cates Zetech’s loaded appreciation of the President’s participation in officially opening the complex.”

Shaking his hand vigorously in appreciation, the President welcomed the gift and congratulated Joash on putting together a great gift through the use of his talent during a time the arts industry is receiv-ing increased attention.

Commending Joash for a job well done, Moses Maina, Executive Di-rector, Communication, Corporate and Student Affairs said the uni-versity has over the years not only focused on academic excellence, but encouraged students to explore their talents through the Talent Identification and Development Programme.

Zetech Drama Club Feted at Kenya National Music Festivals

It was an exhilarating moment for the Zetech University Drama Club when they performed exemplary pieces at the recently con-cluded 89th edition of the Kenya National Music Festivals in Ki-

sumu County.

Participating in the edition for the first time as a university, the club gave the competitors a run for their money winning a record 10 tro-phies of the 25 pieces they performed, in line with this year’s theme , ‘Promoting National Values and Ideals.’

Pitted against other notable competitors from different universities, the club excelled in the competition; they won praise from the judges and audience as well as admiration from their fellow contestants.

Participating for the first time in the university category brought with it a lot of expectation, pressure and excitement,” he said.

Of the 25 pieces performed by the team, winning the Choir Own Composition ‘Zilizopendwa, from the rest of the world’ was par-ticularly refreshing, as the club managed to beat Baraton University, who have won first place in the category for six years consecutively.

“This win created the kind of attention we wanted and affirmed our place in the drama industry in this country,” Ondara added, citing the opportunity as a positive influence and motivational factor for his team who worked very hard to earn the victories.

Ondara also reflected on the importance of participating in such fo-rums that challenge the ideals and behavior of our society through entertaining but though-provoking acts.Applauding the team on the win, Zetech University Dean of Student Affairs Elizabeth Muhia expressed the institution’s pride in the club for performing well in the competition.

“We are proud of the Club for shining in the feted festival and for bringing home trophies as a result of diligence, creativity and notable commitment.” Elizabeth shared, adding that the university is dedicated to supporting the club and celebrating students as they excel in differ-ent clubs.
