• Blow dry the hair smooth using a paddle brush.

• Create a small horseshoe-shaped section on top of the hair and secure.

1. Create a horseshoe-shaped section on top of head, clip for control. This is section 8. Separate fringe section with a curved parting as shown. This is section 7.

2. Next, take a curved horizontal parting from the middle of the left ear to the middle of the right ear across the back of the head and secure. This is section 1.

3. On the right side, create an irregular* curved parting from occipital bone to top of ear as shown. This creates section 2. Repeat on left side to create section 3.

4. Next, on the right side, create a curved parting from the parietal to the middle of section 2. Secure. This is section 5. Repeat on left side to create section 6.

5. Clip all remaining hair. This is section 4.

*Section sizes can vary, giving customizable results.

1. Release Section 1. Apply FORMULA 1 from scalp to ends. Once complete place in a foil to create a barrier.

MASTERY POINT:When working with multiple colors, create a barrier between sections to ensure purity of tones.

2. Release section 2 and apply FORMULA 2 from scalp to ends. Place in a foil to create barier. Repeat in section 3.

3. Release section 4 and apply FORMULA 3 from scalp to ends. Place in a foil to create a barrier.

5. Release section 7 and apply FORMULA 4 from scalp to ends. Place in foil.

6. Release section 8 and apply FORMULA 1 from scalp to ends. Place mid-lengths and ends in foil.

7. Process 30 minutes. Rinse, cleanse and condition.

1. Create a parting from ear to ear across the top of the head.

2. Divide the front section by creating a parting from the front hairline to the high point of the head. Secure each side. These are sections 3 and 4.

3. Divide the back section vertically in the center and secure each side. These are sections 1 and 2.

1. Release back sections 1 and 2. Create a horizontal parting at the nape area. Comb the hair straight down. Cut using 1 finger elevation, this will be your guide. Continue taking 2.5cm horizontal sub-sections until sections 1 and 2 are complete.

2. Release section 3. Create a horizontal parting at the temporal region. Cut using a piece from the previously cut length as your guide. Continue taking 2.5cm sub-sections until complete.Repeat in section 4.

3. Create a center parting on the top of the head. Comb the hair down and slightly forward. Beginning 5cm below the chin on the right side, use the C.R.A.F.T. Slide Cutting Technique. Hold the hair between two fingers, start at top with scissors slightly open. Push along the section working from short to long, partially closing the scissors as you continue down the strands. Repeat on the left side.

MASTERY POINT:The C.R.A.F.T. Slide Cutting Technique is used to scoop out weight creating soft movement.

5. Dry the hair smoothly with a paddle brush. Using the C.R.A.F.T. Freehand Cutting Technique, work around the head, cutting the hair with minimal tension.

MASTERY POINT:The C.R.A.F.T. Freehand Cutting Technique creates movement and removes weight from the hair.

4a. In the center back create a 2.5cm vertical sub-section. Comb the hair straight out from the head. Cut from short to long using the C.R.A.F.T. Slide Cutting Technique. This will be your guide.

4b. Continue taking vertical sub-sections working to the left front hairline. Repeat on the right side.

1. Begin at the right front hairline of section 1, take a 2.5cm diagonal sub-section. Cut using 1 finger length. This is your traveling guide. Continue working around the head until section 1 is complete.

2. Working in the nape and in front of the ear, use the C.R.A.F.T. Scissor-Over-Comb Cutting Technique by cutting the hair close to the scalp, using a comb to hold the section and the middle of the scissors to cut in a continuous motion. Complete section 1.

MASTERY POINT:C.R.A.F.T. Scissor-Over-Comb Cutting Technique allows you to blend and taper.

3. Using an edger, detail the hairline and sideburn area.

1. Create a side parting above the left eye extending back to the crown.

2. Create a slight triangular-shaped section along the front hairline as shown.

1. Release triangular section. Using a comb, pick up the section. Position the comb on a slight angle and cut the entire section.

2. Take a 2.5cm diagonal sub-section on the left side, extending from the crown to the parietal. Cut using a diagonal finger position and a 90 degree angle elevation. This is a traveling guide. Continue taking diagonal sub-sections, and work towards the left hairline.

1. Release back sections 1 and 2. Create a horizontal parting at the occipital. Use the C.R.A.F.T. Comb Control Cutting Technique by combing the hair straight down with the fine tooth side of the comb and cut. Continue working in sections 1 and 2, taking 2.5cm horizontal sub-sections until complete.

MASTERY POINT:Depending on the density of the hair, take thicker or finer sub-sections.

2. Release section 3. Create a horizontal parting at the temporal region. Using the previously cut length as your guide, cut using the C.R.A.F.T. Comb Control Cutting Technique. Continue taking 2.5cm horizontal sub-sections until complete. Repeat in section 4.

3. Create a large triangular section from the high point of the head to the outer corners of the eyebrows. Isolate and secure the remaining hair.

4a. Working in the fringe, create a 2.5cm horizontal sub-section. Begin in the center and cut using the C.R.A.F.T. Comb Control Cutting Technique.

4b. Continue working to the right and left sides. Repeat steps 4a and 4b until fringe section is complete.

MASTERY POINT:When cutting the right and left corners of the fringe, keep the line blunt and straight for a dramatic look.

5. Dry hair smoothly with a Denman® brush. Using the C.R.A.F.T. Fan Cutting Technique, comb out the section and hold the hair between index and middle finger. Fan out hair and deep point cut working on the sides only.

MASTERY POINT:Fan cutting is used to soften the perimeter.

MASTERY POINT:Side-brushing will allow you to create a soft diffusion of color and omit any strong lines.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 in section 2.

5a. Process for 20 minutes. Rinse, cleanse and towel dry.

5b. Apply FORMULA 3 to pre-lightened hair. Process 15-20 minutes.Rinse, cleanse and condition.

4. Once all foils are placed, apply FORMULA 2 to all remaining hair outside of foils.

COLORSECTIONING:1. Begin on the left side. Create a crescent-shaped section that begins 2.5cm back from the hairline and extends to behind the left ear as shown. Isolate and secure. This is section 1.

2. Next, starting at the parietal on the right side, create a crescent-shaped section that extends to occipital bone as shown. Isolate and secure. This is section 2.

• Take the two crimped sections and create fishtail braids.

1. Release section 1. Comb entire section down towards the left eye. Gather all of the hair between fingers and slightly overdirect sides towards the center. Cut from short to long, with more length over the right eye.

3a. Create a 2.5cm vertical sub-section in the center back. Hold the section straight out from the head. Use the length at the bottom of the section as your guide and cut. This will become a stationary guide.

3b. Continue taking vertical sub-sections to the right of the guide and overdirecting them to the stationary guide at center back. Continue until hair does not reach. Repeat to the left of the stationary guide.

MASTERY POINT:Using a stationary guide at center back will create and internal concave.

2. Release section 2. Comb all the hair in front of the shoulder. Using a piece of hair from the previously cut section as your guide, cut from short to long using the C.R.A.F.T. Free Hand Cutting Technique. This is done by cutting the hair with little to no tension. Release side section 3 and repeat.

MASTERY POINT:Free hand cutting is used to achieve soft movement along the perimeter.

6. Personalize with the C.R.A.F.T. Surface Planing Cutting Technique by using an open and closing movement of your scissors. Hair will be cut from short to long.

MASTERY POINT:The C.R.A.F.T. Surface Planing Cutting Technique is used to create move-ment in the hair.

4. Comb all loose hair back and secure for control if needed. Release section 4. Sub-divide in half for control if necessary. Comb the hair straight up to the center of the section. Using a piece of hair from the fringe section as your guide, cut from short to long.

5a. Blow-dry hair using a paddle brush. Take a vertical sub-section at center back directly above the stationary guide cut from step 3. Hold the hair straight out and cut from short to long, creating a steep angle. This will be your stationary guide.

5b. Continue taking vertical sub-sections to the right of the guide and overdirecting them to the stationary guide at center back.Continue until hair does not reach. Repeat to the left of the stationary guide.

head. The front point of the diamond should begin 2.5cm behind the front hairline. Isolate and secure; this is section 4.

2. In the fringe area, create diagonal partings above the center of each eyebrow extending from the front hairline to the diamond. Secure, this is section 1.

3. Divide the back section vertically from the back point of the diamond to the nape. Secure each side. The right side is section 2, the left side is section 3.

1. Release section 1. Create a diagonal slice beginning at the front hairline. Apply FORMULA 1 from mid-lengths to ends.

2a. Working up to the scalp from the mid-lengths, apply FORMULA 1 utilizing a side-brushing technique. This is done by holding the brush vertically, blending the formula up. Fold the foil in thirds.

MASTERY POINT:Folding the foil in thirds, rather than in half, will allow you to maintain the soft diffusion of color created with the side brushing technique.

2b. Leave a 2.5cm space and repeat steps 1 and 2a, alternating between a slice and a weave until section is complete.

4. Release section 4. Apply FORMULA 3 from scalp to ends. Repeat in section 5.

5. Process up to 20 minutes or until desired lightness is achieved. Rinse, shampoo and towel dry. Apply FORMULA 4 to the pre-lightened hair, process accordingly.

MASTERY POINT: The width of crescent-shaped sections will be determined by the size of client’s head and density of hair.

• Apply Design Pulse Switch Flicks Wax-Gel to the sides. Smooth all hair to the center back and twist up, secure with hair pins.

• Blow-dry the horseshoe-shaped section using a 1.25cm round brush, creating a set and pinning the curls in place. Allow to cool.

• Using a Denman® brush, work through set. With your fingers, backcomb to create a frothy texture. Mist hair with Design Pulse Hard Lock Hair Spray to set in place.

1. Release back section 1. Subdivide the section along the occipital with a slight arc. Comb the hair to the center back, cut using 1 finger elevation. Continue taking 2.5cm horizontal sub-sections working up the back of the head using the previous cut length as your guide. Complete section 1.

MASTERY POINT:Overdirecting the sub-sections to the center back will create length on the sides.

2. Release section 2. Overdirect the hair slightly back just behind the ear, using a piece from the previously cut section as your guide cut from short to long. Repeat in section 3.

MASTERY POINT:Use minimal tension around the ear to maintain an even perimeter. Continue with the same finger’s width elevation as from the back (section 1).

3. Release section 4. Take a small piece of hair from the center, comb directly up and cut. This will become your guide.

4. Create a pie-shaped section, comb hair straight up. Using the previously cut piece of hair as your guide, cut from short to long. Continue taking pie-shaped sections and pivot throughout the crown using a traveling guide. Complete section 4.

5. Release section 5. Create a pie-shaped section, comb the hair straight up. Cut from short to long using the length from the crown as your guide. Continue taking pie-shaped sections, pivoting through section 5 until complete.

6. Take a 2.5cm vertical sub-section in the center back. Holding the hair at 90 degrees, cut using the C.R.A.F.T. Deep Point Cutting Technique. Ensure the ends are combed straight out and cut into the ends. This will be your traveling guide. Work to behind both ears.

MASTERY POINT:The C.R.A.F.T. Deep Point Cutting Technique is used to create soft, seamless layers and remove weight.

7. Overdirect the hair from the highpoint forward and in front of the ear towards the back. Using a piece of hair from behind the ear as the stationary guide, cut using C.R.A.F.T. Deep Point Cutting Technique. Repeat on the opposite side.

8. Create a triangle section in the fringe area. Slightly comb (overdirect) the hair towards the center for soft length out on the outsides. Cut using the C.R.A.F.T. Shallow Point Cutting Technique by using the points of the scissors, cutting at a 45 degree angle and working your way across the section.

MASTERY POINT:The C.R.A.F.T. Shallow Point Cutting Technique is used to create softness in the fringe.

Begin on damp hair. 1. Create a large horseshoe-shaped section that

starts at the front hairline and extends to the crown area.

2. Divide the horseshoe section across the high point of the head. Isolate and secure. The back half is section 4. The front half is section 5.

3. Create a vertical parting on the right side, from the parietal to the top of the ear. Secure the hair; this is section 2. Repeat on the left side; this is section 3.

4. Secure the remaining hair in the back. This is section 1.

1. Starting in section 1, on the left side, take a 1.25cm sub-section. Begin back combing from mid-lengths to scalp area. Repeat in sections 2, 3, 4, and 5.

MASTERY POINT:The two middle sections in the back are not back combed.

2. Apply FORMULA 1 to mid-lengths and ends in sections 1, 2, 3, and 4. Use foils to keep separate.

MASTERY POINT:Back combing creates a diffused color result.

4. Divide the hair into quadrants. Apply FORMULA 2 from scalp to ends.
