Bienal baln, Bertolt Brechtin bir arksndan alyor. Bu

rehber 40 lkeden gelen 70 sanat hakknda bilgi ieriyor:

30 kadn, 32 erkek, 3 ortak proje ve 5 kolekti. Toplam

6.000 m2 geniliindeki meknda 141 yapt sergileniyor.

Kamusal koleksiyonlardan 3, zel koleksiyonlardan 14 ve

sanatlarn kendilerine ait 124 yapt var. En gen sanat

27, en yal sanat 76 yanda. Sanatlardan 5i hayatta

deil. En eski yapt 1965ten. 35 yeni yapt var. Yeni

yaptlarn 19u kamu kurumlar, 4 zel kaynaklar, 4

ulusal destek kurumlar, 6s hem ulusal destek kurumlar

This is the exhibition guide or the 11th International

stanbul Biennial What Keeps Mankind Alive?, curated by

the 4-women curatorial collectiveWhat, How & or Whom

/ WHWrom Zagreb, and held between September 12

November 8, 2009. The Biennial takes its title rom a song

byBertolt Brecht. This guide has inormation on 70 artists:

30women, 32men, 3 collaborative projects, and 5 collectives.

141 works are exhibited in three venues, amounting to

6.000 m2. There are 3 works rom public collections, 14 works

rom private collections, and 124 works that belong to the

artists. The youngest artist is 27 years old, the oldest 76.

There are 5 dead artists. The oldest work dates rom 1965.

There are 35 new productions. 19 new productions were

supported by public oundations, 4 by private sources, 4 by

national unding agencies, 6 by a combination o a national

unding agency and a private source, 1 by a combination o

a national unding agency and public oundation, and 1 by

a combination o a private source and public oundation.

The artists come rom 40 countries. 26% o artists come

rom Eastern Europe, 14% rom Western Europe, 39% rom

Middle East, 4% rom Caucasus, 7% rom Central Asia, 1%

rom South America, 6% rom North America, 1% rom Far

East and 1% rom Australia. The highest GDP among these

countries is $ 4,002,739 Billion US (per capita $ 45,550

US) in the United States; the lowest is $ 11,798 Billion US

(per capita $ 2,197 US) in the Kyrgyz Republic. 20 artists

reside outside o their home countries. 22 are represented

by commercial galleries, o which 9 are based outside o

the artists country o residence. The percentage o total

budget allocated to the artists costs is as ollows: 8.29 %

or production costs, 6.09 % or travel and accommodation,

8.53 % or transport o the works. Artists receive no ee.

Curatorial ees amount to 1.21 % o the total budget o

the Biennial. Curatorial research accounts or 1.95 % o

the total budget, and the curators travel and living costs

in stanbul amounts to 2.53 %. As o 20 August 2009, the

planned budget o the 11th International stanbul Biennial

is 2,050,299 Euros.
