The mission of the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant is to destroy the stockpile of chemical weapons stored at
the Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond, Kentucky.
MAIN PLANT
Neutralization followed by supercritical water oxidation, or SCWO, will be used to destroy nerve agent-filled munitions.
BlueGrassArmyDepot
The SCWO reactor vessel combines water, fuel, air and hydrolysate.
The hydrolysate is oxidized to carbon dioxide, water and salts.

Groundbreaking for BGCAPP marked the start of construction in Kentucky.
1942
The Static Detonation Chamber will use thermal destruction technology to process mustard agent-filled munitions, augmenting the main plant.

NERVE AGENT IS STORED IN ROCKETS AND PROJECTILES, AND MUSTARD AGENT IS STORED IN PROJECTILES, INSIDE EARTH-COVERED IGLOOS AT THE BLUE GRASS ARMY DEPOT.
