ADDED VALUE TO APPITA 2007!
2007 International Paper Physics ConferenceThe International Paper Physics Conference has been held every four years since 1979, alternating between the USA and Canada. The 2007 Conference in Australia will be the first time that it has been held outside North America.
The Conference showcases theoretical and experimental work on fibre properties, the fluid dynamics of fibre suspensions, forming, paper structure and the relationship between sheet structure and properties.
This Conference will also focus on the performance of paper in printing and structural applications. The Conference will feature44 oral presentations, as well as over 20 poster presentations, on the latest developments from many of the world's leadingresearch centres for paper and packaging.
The International Paper Physics Conference will be fully integrated into the Appita Conference for Monday to Wednesday, with anadditional session on Thursday 10 May. The Full Registration fee includes entry to all Appita and Paper Physics sessions onMonday to Wednesday. Delegates wishing to attend the Thursday sessions will need to register separately for that day.
The International Paper Physics Conference is co-hosted by PAPTAC (Canada) and TAPPI (USA).
Appita Asia Symposium - Non-Wood Fibre – 2010 and beyond: Prospects for non-woodpaper production in Asia PacificAn International Symposium, brought to you by the Appita Asia Committee, will be held on Tuesday 8 May 2007.
Proponents of paper made from fibres other than wood are true believers, but world wide only about 5% of all paper fibre isderived from non-wood plants. Exotic fibres promoted from time to time include hemp and oil palm residues. The reality is thatthere are plants that have real potential as by products from their primary application, such as bagasse (from sugar cane) andstraw. There are also purpose grown crops such as Kenaf which have been extensively investigated. What are the real facts andwhat are the real prospects – has the time arrived for non-wood fibres to become a significant raw material? Internationallyrenowned experts will provide all the details we need to know. An impressive line-up of renowned speakers will discuss theeconomics, markets supply chain and business issues of non-wood fibres, including Bagasse, Kenaf, Wheat straw, Banana fibreand Oil Palm residues. To complement the Symposium, the Appita Conference technical sessions will feature a stream on non-wood fibres on Monday 7 May.
The Symposium is a separate event at the Conference and an additional fee is payable.
Appita TechTalksAppita TechTalks are presentations and discussion aimed at operations people from pulp and paper mills. They are designed toprovide immediately useful, practical information that can be applied in the workplace to improve effectiveness. At the 61stAppita Annual Conference we are offering four TechTalks:
• How operators can make a difference – Safety Tuesday 8 May• How operators can make a difference – Paper coating Tuesday 8 May• How operators can make a difference – Deinking Wednesday 9 May• How operators can make a difference – Stock preparation Wednesday 9 May
TechTalks are part of the Conference program and are open to all delegates. Bona fide operators from nearby mills are alsoencouraged to attend, at no cost to their Company. Details of the operator’s program will be sent to all mills in late February.
Industry InnovationsThe success of this new feature at the 2006 Conference ensures it is here again in 2007. It is an opportunity for Exhibitors,Sponsors and Sustaining Members to present the latest information on their range of equipment, products and services withoutany constraints on the level of commercialism. These sessions, called ‘Industry Innovations’, will be held in parallel to the maintechnical program, with the same timetable, and delegates will be able to move freely between them and the technical papersand TechTalks.
Short Course – Planning, Scheduling & Management of Plant Shutdowns 9 & 10 May 2007This Short Course proved very popular when we ran it in an expanded form at the 2006 Conference, and is back by populardemand. The course will be conducted by Ross Francis of Ross Francis Consulting.
The course is designed for a cross section of shutdown stakeholders including maintenance, production, project as well ascontract and services personnel. The course will be of great benefit for senior management, supervision, planners & schedulers totrades persons. Each day of the course can be taken separately but best benefit will be gained from the two complimentary days.
Participants will cover applicable theory and technology, mini case studies and mind stretching exercises. Benefits includelearning from a mixed group interaction and specific individual takeaway strategies, methods, skills and improvement actionsaimed at improving plant operational performance.
For a Short Course Brochure, and more information, visit www.appita.com or phone Appita at +61 3 9347 2377.
