Jacqueline Sorensen Young is a Charlottetown-based pianist who currently holds positions as Director of Music at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown, Piano Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and is in demand as a music festival adjudicator across Atlantic Canada and Ontario. She is a Certified Teacher (Advanced Specialist) of the Royal Conservatory of Music and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Prince Edward Island, where she also taught as a Sessional Lecturer from 1994-2014. A versatile pianist she performs regularly with many solo artists representing a wide variety of musical genres from Classical to popular. Some of her past positions include Music Director for “Anne and Gilbert” at the Jubilee Theatre in Summerside during the summers of 2006, 2007 and 2008, Rehearsal Pianist for the Charlottetown Festival’s mainstage production of “Anne of Green Gables” and the Charlottetown Festival’s Young Company, and co-producer and collaborative performer (under the pseudonym of “Suzy Q and Jac”) with singer Suzanne Campbell in “Five Days, Five Plays”, a summer-long children’s entertainment theatre at the Beaconsfield Children’s Festival. Jacqueline is a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators’ Association, a past President of the PEI Kiwanis Music Festival Association, and was founder and coordinator of the Contemporary Showcase Charlottetown Centre as well as the Coordinator of The National Music Festival 2004 which was held in August 2004 in Charlottetown. She was the President of the PEI Registered Music Teachers’ Association for six years, and is currently the Treasurer of the PEIRMTA.

n November 2009 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Jacqueline was honoured as one of fifty Canadian musicians to receive a 50th Anniversary Canadian Music Centre Ambassador award for her commitment to the performance of the music of Canadian composers. Jacqueline is looking forward to the opportunity to share her joy of music-making with the next generation of talented musicians and wishes to encourage all participants to enjoy this valuable performance and educational experience.

Meet Your Adjudicator for Senior Piano! Pianist Roger Lord from Moncton has won the First Prize in piano in the Canadian National Festival of Music as well as in the Canadian Music Competition. His various engagements have taken him to some of the world's great cities such as Paris, Oslo, Montreal, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Cairo, Tunis, Melbourne, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, etc. In 2013, he was one of the guest artists in Beijing for the Chinese New Year TV Gala broadcast for hundreds of millions of viewers. He was recently named one of “150 illustrious Canadian things and people” on the popular Chinese website Sina Weibo. Dr. Lord has been an adjudicator for several music competitions in Canada, Texas, Malaysia, and Australia. Dr. Roger Lord studied at Université de Moncton, McGill University, Université de Montréal as well as in Paris and Strasbourg, France. He also attended special summer sessions of the Moscow Piano Institute in Russia at the Gnessin Music Academy. He holds a Doctorate in Music and is Professor of piano at the Université de Moncton.

About the Festival ………………… The Truro Music Festival was started in 1922 by Professor Harry Wellard and his assistants Miss Margaret McLean and Miss Lois Richardson. Prof. Wellard was organist at several Truro churches, taught music at the Nova Scotia Provincial Normal College, and was supervisor of music in Colchester County schools. He was devoted to music in the community, and was particularly interested in fostering its role in childhood education and development. His many achievements are honoured nearly a century later in the annual Truro Music Festival. In the beginning, the Festival was only for schools, and was known as the Truro Choral Society Music Competition. Initially, the competition was only for "town" schools and took place on a single Saturday in late May in the old Colchester County Academy The Festival quickly grew to include county schools and school-aged soloists, and today includes musicians of all ages from the Colchester area and neighboring counties in Nova Scotia. The tradition has continued up to the present day, and the 2017 Festival will be the 95th anniversary of this Truro institution. In fact, the Truro Music Festival is the third oldest competitive music festival in Canada, an achievement for which the community can be justifiably proud.
