Wireless Keypad PU-R 4
Introduction
The Wireless Keypad PU-R is designed to configure and supervise the devices in-
tegrated into the Wireless Intelligent Fire and Security System “Strelec”.
The Wireless System “Strelec” is designed to protect the sites where the use of
wired systems is prohibited, unacceptable or economically unfeasible.
PU-R contains in its memory the full configuration of the Strelec, including its to-
pology and the composition of the wireless network, as well as settings of both
Control Panels and slave devices of the Strelec.
PU-R can be used for initial configuration and programming of the Strelec, as well
as for altering the configuration of the Strelec, pre-programmed via a PC and the
software of the Strelec.
This manual is recommended to use together with the user’s manual for the
Strelec.
The user working with PU-R and this user’s manual should be familiar with the
basic principles of building and functioning of the system “Strelec”.

5.7 Monitoring communication quality between devices
Communication quality control by PU-R is performed to assess link margin of
wireless devices. Communication quality control can be conducted before assem-
bling wireless devices, after their installation and during operation, if necessary.
Using the keypad PU-R, it is possible to evaluate immediately levels of communi-
cation quality for all the devices of Strelec, as well as define how levels of com-
munication quality have been changing for the selected devices during a period of
time1.
A level of communication quality can be evaluated by the proportion "Signal level
/ Noise level" (proportion S/N) and measured in dB, as well as in accordance with
a 5-grade assessment graph (form the grade "fail" to the grade "excellent").
Choose the menu option to conduct communication quality control with devices:
Menu RF Link quality RSSI levels
1 A user can evaluate communication quality by using the file "WirelEx" included in the software Strelec. The CD-
disk is delivered together with Strelec and is located at the manufacturer Internet site.
ATTENTION!
Communication quality control is required to be conducted after
all the wireless devices are assembled, before commission of the
wireless system!
It prevents possible hassles, based on the wrong choice of the
relative position of wireless devices, while commissioning the
Strelec.
The recommended level of communication quality should be not
less than "good".
Wireless Keypad PU-R 5 Configuration of Strelec 44
Select a device in the opened list, which com-
munication quality is necessary to evaluate.
The assessment grade is displayed in the bot-
tom part of the screen.
Clicking sequentially devices of the wireless system, make sure that the level of
RF link with every device is evaluated with the grade not worse than "good". Oth-
erwise, shorten the distance between wireless devices.
Press the screen button ‹ Graph › to see how the level of communication quality
has been changing with a selected device.
There are areas at the opened graph marked by
dash lines that correspond to different commu-
nication quality grades "2" ("fail"), "3" ("not
good"), "4" ("good") and "5" ("excellent").
The left part is also fitted with a device’s ad-
dress and instant proportion S/N measured in
dB.
Analyze the graph received after keeping the
keypad activated in this mode for about 5 min.
The received curve can have significant local changes of communication quality
(because of people movement in the building, a change can reach 20-30 dB), how-
ever the average level of communication quality should not be less than "4"
(good).
In the operating mode, the fluctuation of communication quality level can be
measured due to autonomous adjustment of radio emission power. In order to elim-
inate fluctuation of communication quality level from the test, as well as to evalu-
ate the real link margin, temporarily turn off the adjustment of the radiated power’s

played at the vertical axis of the graph.
Time of scanning in seconds is displayed at the
horizontal axis. The period of scanning is about
5 sec.
Reading value below the moving cursor is also displayed at the left bottom corner
in RSSI units.
When the wireless interface is turned on, PU-R defines a level of the signal by us-
ing its receiver, when the interface RS-232 is turned on, a signal’s level is read by
PU-R from the wireless expander. Interfaces switching is performed in the menu of
PU-R’s settings.
The normal noise level lies within 10-20 RSSI range at the frequency channels
434 MHz (10-15 RSSI at the frequency channels 868 MHz). Short period peaks at
the graph correspond to radio signals in the air. The bigger number of such peaks,
the more the chosen frequency channel is loaded.
For operation, select a frequency channel which noise level is the least and the
number of short period peaks is the smallest (the noise environment is the most fa-
vorable).

6 ASSEMBLING THE KEYPAD
6.1 Choosing a location
PU-R should be located in a place assessable for a user considering the following
recommendations:
Locate PU-R in a close proximity to the wireless expander functioning as a
network coordinator (RR 0).
Communication distance with the wireless expander through the wireless in-
terface at the open territory is up to 800 m. The communication distance in-
side, however, depends on a number of walls and partitions, as well as their
material type, and might be significantly decreased. Before PU-R installa-
tion, evaluate communication quality by using the pictograph located at
the right top part of the screen. Communication quality should be evaluated
not less than “good” (two vertical strips).
Communication distance with the wireless expander through the interface
RS-232 is up to 30 m.
Should daily arming/disarming be controlled by PU-R, install the keypad in
close proximity to an entrance door
Install PU-R at the distance of not far than 1.5 m from the wireless expander.
If possible, install the keypad far from (the minimum distance is 0.5 m) metal
objects, metal doors, metallized window openings, etc., as well as current-
carrying cables, wires, especially computer wires, otherwise communication
distance might be greatly decreased.
Do not install the keypad close to various electronic and computer devices to
prevent interferences from functioning energy converter, microprocessors,
etc. to affect radio reception.
6.2 Installation
Before assembling the keypad with the wireless interface, remember to firstly reg-
ister the keypad in the wireless expander by using a wired interface (see the para-
graph 5.3, page 34).

7.1 General information
PU-R indicates Strelec’s status based on information read from the wireless ex-
pander functioning as a network coordinator.
A period of information reading, depending on a type of a power supply and acti-
vation of an exchange interface, causes delays of displaying information about
Strelec’s status by Pu-R. Delay values1 are the following:
Interface
of exchange
Power
supply
Delay, sec.
Typical maximum
RS-232 external 0.5 1
battery 2.5 5
wireless external 5 10
battery 10 15
All the changes in Strelec’s status are displayed
by windows that occur at the screen with mes-
sages about new events.
Fire, security, fault, tamper and etc. messages are
accompanied by light indication, changes in col-
or of screen illumination and audible alarm sig-
nal.
Audible alarm or fault signal will be turned off automatically in 2 min. or if any
button has been pressed.
When the screen button ‹ Info › is pressed, de-
tailed information about an event occurred will
be displayed.
Control of Strelec’s status is conducted by pictographs located in the top part of the
screen (see the paragraph 7.2, page 53), as well as means assessable from the menu
"Status" (see the paragraph 7.3, page 54).
1 The values mentioned are referred only to the delay of displaying information about Strelec’s status at the keypad
PU-R! Triggering delays of relay outputs, outputs of audible and light indication, etc. have significantly less values
in the wireless expander.

The detector bypassed is considered not to be tampered, however, out of order.
The function of a forced bypass can be turned off only after a partition has been
disarmed.
Local partitions of wireless expanders can also be armed individually after entering
an engineer or user’s code in the menu “Status” (see the paragraph 7.3, page 54).
7.6 Disarming
To disarm the list of global partitions, enter the following combination of buttons:
where:
NN – a user’s number, from 00 to 30. A user with the number 00 is an engineer.
CCCC – a user’s code, from 0000 to 9999;

Fire alarms and faults can be reset separately in any local partition of a wireless
expander on entering an engineer or user’s code in the menu “Status” (see the par-
agraph 7.3).
7.8 Forced disarming
Forced disarming is performed in the circumstances when a criminal forces a user
to disarm a facility, while the user wishes to secretly report about it to the Monitor-
ing Station.
When a forced disarming is performed, global partitions are disarmed in the usual
way and an indication occurred corresponds to the indication accompanied a regu-
lar disarming. However, a message about forced disarming is generated in the
event protocol and transmitted to the Monitoring station by means of message
transmission devices (for example, Auto dialer UOO-AV version 1, the wireless
transmitter "Argon", etc.). Besides, if the event "Forced disarming" is occurred,
programmed relay outputs of the wireless expander WEx will be activated.
To disarm under enforcement the list of global partitions, perform a disarming
using an user’s code, which last number is different by one from the current user’s
code.
For example:
User’s number – 01,
User’s code – 1234;

The events "Forced disarming" are filtered by PU-R by default, while reading the
event protocol of the wireless expander. Turn filtration option temporarily off in
order to see the events of forced disarming, while reviewing the event protocol.
7.9 Urgent summon - PANIC
An urgent summon is used for an alarm message to be urgently transmitted to the
Monitoring station or generate an audible prompt alarm signal in the case of emer-
gency.
To generate the event "Panic", press the buttons
‹ › and ‹ › simultaneously from PU-R.
A panic signal will be recorded in the event protocol of the wireless expander. A
panic signal transmitted by PU-R is delivered to the first local partition 0 of the
wireless expander (network coordinator).
As soon as the wireless expander acknowledges the signal, audible and light indi-
cation will be turned on at PU-R1. If there is no communication with the wireless
expander, no indication will be displayed.
Press any button to turn panic audible alarm signal off. To reset panic, execute the
command "Disarm" (the paragraph 7.6, page 61) for the partition where panic has
been occurred.
7.10 Bypass of tampered detectors
The bypass of a security detector should be turned on2, if its current status is tam-
pered, however the partition where the detector is located has been armed3.
1 A delay depends on the type of PU-R’s power supply and the current interface (see the paragraph 7.1). 2 Manual bypass can be turned on only if the option of manual bypass has been included to the options of the wire-
less expander. 3 An example of such situation is a small opening window pane that cannot be closed and therefore, the partition
where a reed switch “RIG” is located cannot be armed. Meanwhile, a user would like to arm another detectors of
this partition.

7.11 Control of executive devices groups
Control of executive devices groups is used for fast approval/prohibition of relay
outputs activation2.
While programming, executive devices are allocated to one of eight groups. If a
group is excluded, executive devices will not be activated, event though an event,
they are programmed to trigger at, is occurred.
1 An example of such situation is the necessity of temporal deactivation of a smoke detector “Aurora-DR”, located
in the smoking room. 2 For example, to prohibit an alarm system to be launched

8 PROPERTIES OF STRELEC’S DEVICES
8.1 Common properties of Strelec
Radio frequency and general properties of the wireless system are accessible from
the menu:
System’s code – a property which units equipment of the wireless system. It
contains 2 digits, each lies within the range 00-99. One of the digits is acces-
sible to be changed by a user. Another is selected randomly by PU-R.
Frequency range – selection of a frequency range (434 МHz or 868 МHz1).
Channel’s number – a number of a main frequency channel within a fre-
quency range. Selection of a main channel enables several wireless systems
to operate at the same facility2.
External disturbance – a wireless expander generates a signal “External dis-
turbance” in the event of detecting an irrelevant wireless signal at the operat-
ing channel.
Extended range – an operating range of wireless devices is extended by 1.5
times, when periods of control signals’ transmission and the control of a
communication channel by 5 times.
Properties of detection circuit interfaces of the Control Panels "Akkord-
512", "Raduga-2А", "Raduga-4А" "Raduga-3/240", accessible from this
menu as well, are described in the properties of the wireless expanders WEx
(the paragraph 8.2, page 67) and WExF240 (the paragraph 8.4, page 71) cor-
respondingly.
1 Optimization of radio frequency circuits of wireless devices is performed only for every range separately. There-
fore, while operating in the frequency range, different from the range, the devise has been optimized for; the operat-
ing range of the device will be decreased (approximately by 2-4 times). 2 An inbuilt scanner of radio air can be used for selection of an optimal frequency channel. A minimum noise level
within a frequency channel should serve as criteria for selection.

Transmission period – transmission period of control wireless signals by
a detector. The transmission period can be increased to extend a battery’s
service life, or decreased to raise a speed of detectors’ respond.
Communication control – a period, after which expiration, a signal about
a fault in communication with a detector, lacking control wireless sig-
nals, will be generated. This period can be set with a small value (up to
1.5 min.), if the requirements of a channel’s reliability control are high.
The period of communication control can be set at the maximum (up to
15 min), if a noise level is high at the facility.
►Properties of the detectors Aurora-R, Ikar-R, Afra-R Sensitivity – adjustment of a detector’s sensitivity level. Sensitivity de-
fines the operation threshold of a detector.
►Properties of the detector RIG
Control of sealed contact/loop – supervision of a sealed contact/loop
control. When the control is off, a sealed control or loop is considered to
be not disturbed.
Sealed contact normally-opened/normally-closed – if the chosen sealed
contact is normally-closed, a state when a magnet is touching a detector
is considered to be normal. A detector, with its sealed contact being
normally-opened, is in the normal mode, when there is no magnet.
Loop type – selecting a RIG’s loop type. Depending on detectors con-
nected to RIG, a loop type can be security or fire.
Thresholds of a security loop:
Loop resistance RIG state
More than 10 kOhm broken
from 4 to 7 kOhm norm
Less than 2.8 kOhm broken
Thresholds of a fire loop:
Loop resistance RIG state
More than 40 kOhm fault
from 10 to 20 kOhm fire
from 4 to 7 kOhm norm
Less than 2.8 kOhm fire
Less than 200 Ohm fault

8.7 Properties of output modules groups
The properties required to be configured while adding a device, are written in
bold.
►Common
The common properties of the devices OM-R version 1 and 2, Sirena-R:
Partition number – a local partition’s number assignment. The events
such as faults or tampers are transferred from an output module in this
local partition.
Group number – all the output modules are allocated in one of 8 groups.
Every group can be either turned on or off (see the paragraph 7.11, page
64). If the group is off, a relay start won’t be executed while carrying out
conditions of activation.
Delay – an activating delay of an output module varied from 3 sec. To 4
min.
Events – a filter of events that make an output module trigger, such as
following:
alarms (together with forced alarms and tampers)
fires
faults
disarming
Event of WEx – influence of own events of a wireless expander (case
tampering, power supply fault) to an output module.
Influence of WExi partitions – connection between events in partitions
of the expander with the number i and the output module given. For
global output modules, i can be varied from 0 to 15.
Operation time – is an option that enables to restrict the activation time
of an output module by 8 min. The option can be useful, for example, for
limitation of a sounder’s operation time.
Transmission period/RF Link control – options are assigned similarly to
the options of detectors.

►Properties of OM-R, versions 1 and 2
Control of input Flt – if control is on, a fault signal (“Fault”) is trans-
ferred to the wireless expander, when load resistance connected to the
input “Flt”, reaches some high values. Resistance thresholds are the fol-
lowing:
Resistance at the input Flt OM-R state
More than 10 kOhm fault
From 4 to 7 kOhm norm
Less than 2.8 kOhm fault
