Introduction

Welcome to Rock of Springs Technical College Germiston, a private TVET college in Ekurhuleni. This document is a brief description of the services we offer at the college and is by no means exhaustive. Our staff are more than ready to provide you with more information on our operations.

It is an institution registered and accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Higher Education and Training as well as other accreditation bodies. The college was established in 2010 by a team of highly experienced professionals in the education and training sector. Since then, it has experienced unprecedented growth. The college addresses training needs in the fields of Engineering studies, Management studies and Information Technology to the South African community;

professional, experienced and competent team of teachers, who have dedicated themselves to assisting

NATIONAL CERT:HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT N4-N6

NATIONAL CERT: FINANCIAL MAMAGEMENT N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT:MARKETING MANAGEMENT N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT: BUSINESS MANAGEMENNT N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT: PUBLIC RELATIONS N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT: MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT: PUBLIC MANAGEMENT N4-N6 NATIONAL CERT :LEGAL SECRETARY N4-N6

Note : (Each N level for Management studies takes 6 months .)

A certificate is issued by the Department of Higher Education & Training at the successful completion of every level of training.

The entry requirement is Matric or its equivalence for N4 or the learner being above 18 years of age, with working experience.

Students seeking admission to N5 and N6 must present evidence of having successfully completed N4 and N5, respectively.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING STUDIES

NATIONAL CERT: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING N1-N6 NATIONAL CERT:MECHANICAL ENGINEERING N1-N6 NATIONAL CERT:BOILER MAKINGN1-N6

Note :(Each N level for Engineering studies takes 3 months .)

A certificate is issued by the Department of Higher Education & Training at the successful completion of every level of training and UMALUSI issues the N3 certificate.

The entry requirement (for N1) is a Grade 9 Certificate or its equivalent.


Detailed information on progression and articulation for the different programme offerings is available on request.

The college offers training to a broad array of organisations; from small and medium – sized businesses to municipalities, local government agencies and the Community at large in the following areas:

Registration requirements

A certified copy of the identity document / affidavit and photograph in case of no / lost identity document;

Deposit / necessary fees;

Money for textbooks, kits, stationery and learning materials (where applicable);

Preferably accompanied by a parents / guardian in case the student is under 18 years of age.;

Proof of residential address and relevant contact details;

One (1) copy of the student's recent passport size photo;

Documentary proof of the student's most recent academic record.

Foreign Students

Students must have their certificates evaluated by SAQA at the following address:

Note : Non-resident students must have a study permit whose validity covers the relevant study period.

Cancellations

Booking cancellations must be made by letter or by email. Cancellations made no later than 10 days prior to the commencement of the

course/ event will not incur any cancellation fee. Cancellations made between 5 and 10 days prior to the course/event will incur a 30%

cancellation fee. Any cancellation made within 5 working days prior to the commencement of the

course/event dates will incur a 60% cancellation fee.

Refunds

The college offers refunds under the following conditions:

If the training services promised to learners are not provided and evidence is provided in support. If the registered learner is ill and not able to attend classes before commencement or if the registered

learner dies before commencement of classes. Substitute learners may be sent in the place of those who are taken ill or die before the commencement

of the training programme. The College need to be informed of the substitution as soon as possible. The learner can be transferred once to any other of the other college programmes, or course running within 6 months, provided the college in notified by letter or email no later than 10 working days before the commencement date of the course.

Bursaries

The College does not offer bursaries and students are encouraged to follow the application procedures for Government bursaries.


Class attendance

Students must be punctual

Students who arrive five minutes late after the start of the period will be regarded as late (but

will be allowed in class) and indicated as present on the register.

Students may not be denied access to class unless they cause/display disruptive behaviuor. In

the case where the student is late three or more consecutive days per subject, such a student

will be marked absent on the fourth day by the subject lecturer.

Regular student absenteeism and late coming will be followed up by contacting

parents/guardians/employers/ sponsors within relevant faculties/departments for disciplinary

action.

Class attendance, academic/programme progress and disciplinary warning(s) will affect

student’s testimonials.

it is a requirement by the Department of Higher Education and Training that for a student to be

admitted into a national examination, s/he must have attended at least 80% of the

trimester/semester lectures.

Assignments and internal continuous assessment tasks

These are compulsory and as per the regulations of the Department of Higher Education and Training,

students will not be allowed to write examinations if they score less the 40% in class assignments

and/internal assessment tasks.


CLASS ATTENDANCE


Attendance will be used as one of the criteria for placement of students in job situations or

learnerships.

If a student was absent for three or more consecutive lecturing days due to death of a family member,

evidence must be provided on the day he/she resumes classes. If absenteeism was due to illness, a

medical certificate must be submitted immediately on the day he/she commences class.

If a test/internal examination/assessment was not written and a medical note or evidence of death of a

family member was not submitted, a zero (0) mark will be entered on the mark sheet.

Pregnant students: A medical certificate, stating the due date of birth, must be submitted as soon as

the pregnancy is confirmed.

The student must take maternity leave for the last 4 weeks of the pregnancy unless a medical

certificate is submitted that allows the student to continue attending classes.

Students may not leave the venues during lecturing times unless the necessary permission has been

obtained from the lecturers.

Cell phones must be switched off at all times in:

a) Lecture rooms,

b) Examination rooms,

c) Assemblies and

d) During meetings


All personal appointments should be made outside lecturing hours. Absence due to such

appointments will be regarded as non-attendance, even if a student notified his /her lecturers.

Clothing should be neat and acceptable in societal and corporate environment and student’s

bags should not carry provocative or offensive statements, slogans or signs on them.


GENERAL INFORMATION

Please note: A registration fee is payable upon registration either bay bank deposit into the College account

with FNB or cash payment at the College. It is important that the student's name of identity card number

appears on the deposit slip as reference. Students will only be registered upon presentation of proof of

payment to the Administrator’s office. Any outstanding balance on school dues must be paid in full before

the commencement of the National examinations.
