Introducing Tullie HouseWe are delighted that you are interested in joining our team at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. As Carlisle's finest visitor attraction, we are proud of our history and excited about the future. We welcome around 250,000 visitors each year to enjoy our considerable collections of fine and decorative art, human history and natural sciences. These are combined with our wide range of exhibitions and events in one multi-award winning museum and art gallery.

Being the one of the most significant museums in the North West, Tullie House is recognised for its first class visitor service, and has a national reputation for the quality of its collections and programming.

We are an independent regional museum with an international reach. We look after nearly 400,000 cultural artefacts on behalf of the local authority including one of the largest collections of pre-Raphaelite artwork in the north of England, an internationally important Roman collection that centres on Hadrian’s Wall (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a huge collection of specimens that represent the flora and fauna of Cumbria, the most bio-diverse county in England. We have partnerships with some of the most prestigious museums in the country, including the British Museum, the Tate and the National Portrait Gallery, as well as international partners including the Imperial Decree Museum in Xuzhou, China.

In addition to delivering a diverse and stimulating public programme Tullie House also has an award-winning learning and engagement team and uses its impressive historic buildings to host many commercial events and functions.

There is a 100 seat lecture theatre, a popular and high quality restaurant and an impressive gift shop.

Tullie House works strategically with its core funder, Carlisle City Council, on a range of economic and community projects. Tullie House is also the lead organisation in the Cumbria Museum Consortium (CMC) along with Lakeland Arts and the Wordsworth Trust. The consortium is an Arts Council England Major Partner Museum (MPM).

The museum has won a number of awards recently, the most prestigious of which is the 2015/16 National Winner of the Telegraph Family Friendly Kids in Museums. Not surprisingly families are one of the museum’s key target audiences along with local people, the education sector and tourists.

The museum is actively working on a number of exciting projects including fundraising to conserve and display a 15m whale, working internationally, developing a county-wide Dementia programme and exploring the possibility of undertaking a major capital development. All of these projects, and many more, require the support and guidance of a dynamic and entrepreneurial Head of Commercial and Visitor Experience.

Tullie House has just launched a new Manifesto which provides a strong and clear vision for the future of the Trust. The focus is on creating a museum for all that embraces community, co-creation and learning, which places collections at its centre and which is ‘…fit for the 21st century, that is for 21st people and 21st century life”.

We have a small but dedicated team of 39 staff, across full time and part time roles, and we work closely with a similar number of volunteers.

We welcome your application. To find out more about Tullie House, please visit our website, Facebook page or follow us on Twitter!
