Important Facts of H.C.F.!!

Factors and Multiples

If the number X divided another number Y exactly, we say that X is a factor of Y.

In this case; Y is called a multiple of X

Highest Common Factor (H.C.F.) or

Greatest Common Factor (G.C.F.) or

Greatest Common Divisor (G.C.D.)

The H.C.F. of two or more than two numbers is the greatest number that divides each of them exactly.

There are two methods of finding the H.C.F. of a given set of numbers.

(1) Factorization Method: Express each one of the given numbers as the product of prime factors. The product of least powers of common prime factors gives H.C.F.

(2) Division Method: Suppose we have to find the H.C.F. of two given numbers, divide the larger by the smaller one. Now, divide the divisor by the reminder. Repeat the process of dividing the preceding number by the remainder until zero is obtained as remainder. The last division is required H.C.F. finding the H.C.F. of more than two numbers. Suppose we have to find the (H.C.F of any two) and (the third number) gives the H.C.F. of three given numbers.Similarly, the H.C.F. of more than three numbers may be obtained.H.C.F. fractions:H.C.F. = H.C.F of numerators/L.C.M of DenominatorsSharpen your IQ and increase your potential ability to excel in your passionate career.

Time and Distance

(1) A thief is noticed by a policeman from a distance of 200m. The thief starts running and the policeman chases him. The thief and the policeman run at the rate of 12km and 13km per hour respectively. What is the distance between them after 6 minutes?

Explanation

Relative speed of the thief and policeman = (15 – 12)km/hr = 1km/hr

1km = 1000m

1hr = 60min

Relative speed of the thief and policeman = (100/60) meter/minutes

Distance covered in 6 minutes = (1000/60) x 6 = 100m

:. Distance between the thief and policeman = 100m

(2) A car takes 6 hours to cover a distance of 540km. how much should the speed in kmph be maintained to cover the same direction in 2/3rd of the previous time?

Explanation

A car takes 6 hours to cover a distance of 540km

2/3rd of 6 hours = 6 (2/3) = 4 hours

Required speed = 540/4 = 135kmph

:. Speed = 135kmph

Sharpen year IQ and increase your potential ability to excel in your passionate career.

SELF DETERMINATION

Our destiny is largely in our own hands. If we find, we shall have to seek. If we succeed

in the race of life, it must be by our energies and exertions, others may clear the road, but we

must go forward or be left behind in the road of life.

If we remain poor and dependent, the richers of other man will not avail us if we are

ignorant. The intelligence of other men will do but little for us. If we are foolish, the wisdom

of other men will not guide us. If we are watchful of time and money the economy of other

men will only make our destination the more disgraceful and hurtful.

DON’T GIVE UP

In this wonderful world,

Full of series of trials and problems,

Anyone can easily give up

But, remember that,

Nobody ever travels the road of greatness and success without ‘puncture types”

Therefore, to expect life to be very perfect and fashioned to your exact desire and taste will be

unbelievable

There must be a lot of frustration and hardships

The battle of life comes like floods,

Sometimes, but never quit

A period of problem is only a period of temporary hardship,

Then you have to look up to God

He will push you out of it with testimonies

I want you to bear it in mind that “ A man is not finished when he is defeated, but he is finished

when he quits”

Hold unto God, “the author and the finisher of our faith”

My dear friends, whatever may be your condition on earth, don’t give up

Jesus is always at your sides

RIDDLES AND JOKES

The pupils of primary 5 went on an excursion to Egypt. They were taken to the tomb of the

Pharaoh. On the tomb there was an inscription on the tomb “110ZBC”. The class teacher asked

the whole class what was the meaning of the inscription. A pupil raised his hand. The teacher

pointed at him, he answered “that the inscription on that grave is Pharaoh’s BB pin”

ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS TRICKY

The trickiest language is English Language.

I will begin with a mouse,

Two are called mice

But the plural of house is houses and not hice

You may show me your foot

And wear shoes on your feet

If I give you a boot

Will a pair be called beet?

You may keep in a box

And I might keep mine in three boxes

Yet the plural of an ox is oxen

One may be that

And a dozen may be those

But the plural of hat

Imagine it being hose

If the plural of a goose

Is called geese

Wouldn’t the plural of choose then be cheese?

A person who bakes is called a baker

But a person who cooks can never be a cooker

Let’s look at a man

Two of them became men

But the plural of pan is not pen

Words like honest and hour

Both have a silent ‘h’

Don’t you agree that English Language is indeed the trickiest language?

BEN CARSON: MY ROLE MODEL

Ben Carson is currently a Professor of Neurosurgery (Brain Surgeon), plastic surgery,

Oncology and Paediatrics. He is the Director of the Plastic Neurosurgery at John Hopkins

Medical Institutions. He is an admired and respected role model because he shares motivational

insight with Inner City Kids and Corporate Executives alike. He is a black American.

At an earlier stage in his life, while at grade school, his classmates considered him as a

stupid and dull boy. His mother, being a single parent did everything in her power to support her

family and to see to the success of her son, despite his poor performance in school. At last, her

effort was not in vain because Ben Carson became part of the best in his class.

God helped Ben to reach hihs goal as a Neurosurgeon. He successfully performed diverse

operations. What brought him to the limelight was a success recorded on an operation carried out

on co-joined twins as well as operation on people with brain tumours.

What inspired me in his life is the courage to face life challenges and overcame these

difficulties. Ben saw that he could not change the direction of the wind, so he adjusted his sails in

order for him to reach his destiny. Ben Carson’s life has revealed that there is no one created by

God without potential. And with absolute surrender to God, the purpose of God for one’s life

will surely come to pass.

In the spiritual area, he is sound and well committed to God and he is also morally

grounded. Socially, I would say that he is very social because of the smiling faces of children

who always come across him. Academically, he is an expert and a well equipped man. If Ben

Carson could overcame the challenges of life and realise his dream, I strongly believe that God

can also help me to achieve my dream.

Did you know that…

Your environment affects everything about you directly or indirectly. It affects your

health, mood, thoughts and interaction with others. It also affects what you eat, wear and your

behaviour.

A calm and serene environment positively affects your thinking and reasoning. A clean,

inviting and comfortable environment improves the quality of your life, facilitates, social

interaction and the benefits that came from such relationships.

A secured environment with conducive weather condition will affect the behaviour,

choice of clothing and food, and how you carry out your legitimate duties when to a large extent,

THE “C – D” PRINCIPLES FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS – Phil. 3:13-14, Prov. 22:29

A Learning Concentration for academic Success

Modern classrooms are designed to encourage and support the learning process, while

many modern homes have become repositories for video games, movies, personal computers,

cell phones with texting capability and a dozen other popular distractions. Attempting to

concentrate on home work in an environment filled with so many temptations can often be an

exercise in futility for many students, even those with exceptional discipline. In order to

concentrate on homework, a student needs an environment which encourages mental focus and

minimizes distractions. Needless to say, with all the distractions around, every student aiming for

success must learn how to concentrate.

What is concentration?

Concentration is the ability to direct all your efforts and attention to one thing without

thinking something else. Concentration is what every student is capable of. We all have it in

varying measures, but it needs facilitation to be able to work.

Note these words: (1) Direct (2) Efforts, attention, one thing

DIRECT: To concentrate, you must be able to direct yourself; you must be in control. But,

many students have no control over themselves. Think of this, you cant be a slave and still be the

master at the same time, you can only be one! Many students today are slaves of the following:

(i) Games of all sorts

(ii) Movies and videos

(iii) Pornography and sexual immorality

(iv) Excessive talking and playing.

(v) Social media influence; to mention few.

Anyone who is a slave to sin (lying, stealing, immorality, cheating, pornography and so

on), cannot make good success because sin will not allow it. Sin will be driving and directing

you opposite your way to success; only when you come into control can you begin to direct

yourself. Aspire for one tin now – Control! You must have it!

EFFORTS, attention, one thing: Success calls for effort and attention. Your efforts and

attention. Your efforts and attention can only bring success when you direct them on one thing at

a time.

HOW CAN YOU GAIN CONTROL? – Proverbs 21:1

God has all heart in His control; He is the only one who can help you gain control over

yourself. All you need to do is to allow God to take control of your life. If He takes control, He

will put you in control games, movies, immoralityand vices that you can’t control before will

come under your control. IF you turn your heart over to God you turn from other distractions.

Here are ten (10) suggestions for improving your study concentration

(1) Study in a quiet place that is free from distractions and interruptions. Try to create a space

designated solely for studying.

(2) Make a study schedule that shows what tasks you need to accomplish and when you plan to

accomplish each task. This will provide you with the structure you need for effective

studying.

(3) Try to study at the time of day you work best. Some people work well early in the morning,

others late at night. You know what works best for you.

(4) Make sure you are not tired and/or hungry when you study. Otherwise, you won’t have the

energy you need to concentrate. Also, maintain your physical fitness.

(5) Don’t try to do two tasks at the same time. You won’t be able to concentrate on either one

very well. Concentration means focusing on one thing to the exclusion of all these.

(6) Break large tasks into series of smaller tasks that you can complete one at a time. If you try

to complete a large task all at once, you may feel overwhelmed and will be unable to

maintain your concentration.

(7) Relax. It’s hard to concentrate when you are tense. It’s important to relax when working on

a task that requires concentration, meditation is helpful to many students.

(8) Clear your mind of worrisome thoughts, mental poise is important for concentration. You

can get distracted by your own thoughts. Monitor your thoughts and prevent yourself from

following any that take you off track. Don’t day dream.

(9) Develop an interest in what you are studying. Try to relate what you are studying to your

own life to make it as meaningful as possible. This can motivate you to concentrate.

(10) Take break whenever you feel fatigued. There is no set formula for when to take breaks.

You will know when you need to take a break.

Note: Studying without concentration is like trying to fill a bucket with water when the bucket

has a hole in its bottom. It doesn’t work.

B. LEARNING DILIGENCE FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS

The place of diligence in academic success cannot be undermined or under-estimated.

Diligence is the reason why you understand lectures. It is the reason why you can solve hard

questions with ease; diligence is the reason why you can make a good grade or poor grade. In

simple words, diligence makes up an intelligent student.

What is diligence?

(1) Diligence is a persistent effort directed at the achievement of a particular goal.

(2) Diligence can also be said to mean “legal carefulness” – step by step means of fulfilling set

goals.

Note: From the above given definitions, diligence can then be said to be a persistent effort

directed at the achievement of a particular goal using the right means.

Why many students are not diligent?

(1) Inability to discipline themselves to make success.

(2) Looking for cheap success means without the corresponding hard work.

(3) Peer influence.

(4) Moral vices – games, videos and movies, pornography and immorality and so on

The hard truth

You can’t make good success if youi are looking for the “cheap thing”. Success calls for

hard work. It takes concentration; it calls for discipline; it calls for seriousness.

In simple words, if you want to learn diligence, you must come into control of yourself.

If you will have success you must be ready to take corresponding actions to make it.

WHEN YOU LACK DILIGENCE…

(i) You will find it hard to comprehend in the classroom.

(ii) You will not be able to move from the stage of learning to knowledge.

(iii) You will find it difficult if not impossible to pass exams.

(iv) You will find yourself sinking into worse experiences in academics.

Note: To overcome distractions and temptations of movies, and social media negative influence,

a student that desire good success in his examinations must do the following:

(1) Determine to succeed – Dan. 1:8

(2) Discipline himself

(3) Devote himself to study

(4) Diligent in study. 2 Tim. 2:15

(5) Desire to succeed

(6) Dedicate himself to prayer – Mt. 7:7, Jn. 14:14

To prepare properly for an examination with determination to succeed despite the negative

influence of the social media and other distractions mentioned earlier, the following must

be taken into consideration:

(1) Study seriously with your syllabus

(2) Expect excellent result

(3) Tactically apply easy-to-remember techniques.

(4) Time yourself

(5) Improve on your deficiencies.

(6) Nest your techniques together.

(7) Gate-Away distraction

(8) Organize yourself before and during the examination

(9) Unite with God to succeed.

(10) Trust in the lord for success and testify of God’s goodness.

What can you do now?

(1) Come and submit yourself to Jesus totally! Read John 15;5. You can’t do it alone! Come

and try Jesus; he doesn’t fail. He did it for me and he can do it for you too!

(2) Learn and grow in persistence (stress yourself, strain yourself, suffer now so that you may

enjoy later)

(3) Ask for daily grace – James 4:6

Note: you must avoid the encroachment of any distractions of social media, movies,… while

prepare for your examination. Take a break and give 100% focus in your preparation; and the

Lord will START HIS OWN in your life and grant you your desired success in Jesus’ name.

amen!

Remain blessed, shalom!

On a lovely day, Ade was sent to go and buy somethings in the market by his boss. He was given

the list to take to the market

Onion = N200

Petrol N200

Pepper = 100

Total = N500

Ade left the house around 9:00am. When he got to the market he bought everything but it

remains ‘total’. He was searching for total all around the market. It was already 3:00pm. Ade’s

boss called him to ask what he was still doing in the market, he replied saying: have been

searching for “total” since morning but I have find someone who showed me the way to total

A WORD OF WISDOM TO MY SENIORS

If it was possible, I would have held you guys back. But it will never be. It will be an

understatement to say that I am going to miss your set. Yours is one of the sets that will be

greatly missed. Many good things have been recorded about your set (especially that of the

JAMB score); also several bad issues happened during your stay in the school – that of “truth

and dare”. All the same, we shall feel your absence.

I may not be older than you guys or as wise as you are, but I feel I should share these

words of wisdom:

To the ladies most of you were sources of inspiration to a lot of your juniors. I warn you

to continue in the right path to which you have been shown by this great citadel of learning.

Abstain from all forms of immorality especially immoral dressing. Never forget to put God first.

To the gentlemen “all the fine-fine boys”; well thank God for your lives. Please, cruise

the town with care. Remember the sons of whom you are.

In general conclusion, we your juniors love you and you’ll forever be on our mind. Lots

of love.

JOHN 3:16 IN BASIC TECHNOLOGY CLASS

For ruler so love ruling that he gave divider to transfer measurement that whosoever shows an

arc will have a complex mark.

WHY CHILDREN NEED PLAY

With increasing emphasis on developing academic skills in children at younger ages,

what role does play have in early childhood? There is a growing body of research that shows a

link between play and the development of cognitive and social skills that are prerequisites for

learning more complex concepts as children get older. For example, play is linked to growth in

memory, self-regulation, oral language and recognizing symbols. It has been linked to higher

levels of school adjustment and increased social development.

Play has also been linked to increased literacy skills and other areas of academic learning

(a view held by Piagetian and Vygotskian theories of child development). Play is also beneficial

to children’s learning when it reaches a certain degree of sophistication. Also, it is important to

note that children’s world is full of ideas and imagination. Shaping these thoughts and ideas in a

manner that helps them learn and grow is important.

Early childhood classrooms provide a unique setting to foster the kind of dramatic play

that will lead to cognitive and social maturity. There are other children to play with a setting that

can be organized to accommodate imaginative play and adults who can encourage the play,

guiding children to play effectively with each other. Indeed, this is the cornerstone for all

learning and we need to stand firm in our support of play.

THE SECRET OF REMEMBERING

It is not enough to read or to learn, but how much of what you have read or learnt can you

remember? Many students and pupils fail examinations not because they don’t read or because

they are truants but because their level of retention is very low. If you fall into this category of

learners, here are some tips to help boost your memory.

Be Interested: There is a great relationship between interest and remembering. If you are not

interested in any subject or topic, there is the possibility that you may not pay any attention to it.

You therefore need to develop interest in every subject and topic; and this will aid your memory.

Concentration: You need to pay serious attention to the teacher. Do not allow anything or

anyone to distract you while lessons are going on.

Meditation: You should be able to sit back and reflect on what you have just learnt or read. Ask

yourself questions and see if you would be able to answer them.

Use of Acronyms: Sometimes, you need to coin out a particular word to sum up a long point.

For instance PEN is an acronym representing the sub-atomic particles; MR NIGERD is an

acronym representing the characteristics of living things. This could help boost your memory of

concepts.

Be a Teacher: Cultivate the habit of teaching others when you are asked to. You learn more by

doing so. Try to share your knowledge with others who care to listen, and you also should be

ready to take correction.

Do not Cram: Always try to read and understand, if you don’t understand or confused, ask

questions. Cramming or rote learning is a very bad habit, because the moment you forget any of

it, others become meaningless.

Self Study: You need to create time to go through your school books on a daily basis. Do not

allow the notes to accumulate or wait until the examination period before you start reading.

Prepare a personal time table and make sure you discipline yourself to it.

Do not overwork your brain: It is good to note that “all work and no play make jack a dull

boy”. You need to relax your brain after some hours of working (studying). Play around; take

some physical exercises etc to get you refreshed.

Be Positive: Have the belief that you can do it. Believe in yourself. Don’t ever say “I can’t

remember it anymore’. Always be positive and believe in yourself.

I am confident that once these medicines are taken as prescribed above, your academic

performance will not remain the same again.

A Teacher

The dream being with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you

to the next plateau, some time poking you with a sharp stick called “truth”. The true teacher

defends his pupils against his own personal. He inspires himself distrust. He guides them to

himself to the spirit that quickens him. A good teacher is like a candle. It consums its is a light

the way of her’s. a teacher who is attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to

learn is hammering on cold iron.

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. The best teachers

teach from the heart not from the book. A teacher is a compass that activates the magnet of

curiously knowledge and wisdom in the pupils.

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CONCENTRATION WHILE STUDYING

Concentrating while studying can be hard, especially when the study material does not

contain your favourite topics or subjects. While studying has never been the most exciting aspect

of school, it does not have to be dragged about as it is made out to be. With a sense of

determination and by implementing, some effective study techniques even the dullest subject can

be conquered with increased concentration during a study session.

Preparing to Concentrate while Studying

(1) Find an appropriate study environment: Find a quiet area, such as a private room or a

library. If you like fresh air, go outside to an area that is reasonably free of distractions

and somewhere you can still connect to internet (if necessary but not to social media).

While some prefer to study in quiet zones, others thrive in a bustling environment. If you

don’t know your study preferences, experiment in different areas, studying in a group

with or without music etc. your ability to concentrate and be productive in different

environments will reveal itself rather quickly.

(2) Gather all your studying materials: Your studying materials include; notes, textbooks,

study guides, papers, ******, or anything else you might need to concentrate and be

productive while studying it includes; snacks like a granola bar or nut and bottle of water.

They must be within arm’s reach so you do not disrupt yourself by going to retrieve your

things when you are in zone reading/studying.

(3) Detach yourself unnecessary electronics: Turn off electronics that you do not need

especially cell phones, music and perhaps computers (provided you do not need a

computer as studying material). Students who want full concentration while reading

should not be chatting while studying it really affect.

(4) Stick to a routine: Arrange a schedule for study time and keep with it. Beware of your

energy levels throughout the day. Are you more energetic (and therefore able to

concentrate during the day or night time? It may help to study your ***** subjects when

you have the most energy.

(5) Think of an incentive: before you start studying, think of something can serve as a reward

for your successful studying. For example, after reviewing your Chemistry notes for an

hour, talk with someone about your day, make dinner or watch your favourite television

program. This can motivate you to concentrate on studying for a specific amount of time.

For greater project set greater incentives.

RULE MY GENERATION

BEWARE!

Who metaphorises you to silver

Someday exchange you for gold

He who compares you to gold will

Someday exchange you for diamond

He who compares you to the rain will

Someday drink from you.

He who compares you to jewelry will

Someday sell you.

If you are called “the apple of my eye”

You will someday be divorced by the same person

If you are labeled the best player

You will someday be valued like kaka

You cannot be compared because you are too precious to be priced

Too innocent to sulk

Too precious to discard

Too cherished to be abandoned

Too chaste to be cheapened

Don’t be decveived by cards or messages
