Section A: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement:

Section B: Details in respect of the following

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution

The college was started with the objective of the overall development of the youth in an

environment that is conducive not only for academics but for co-curricular and sports

activities. Since any HEI plays a vital role in the society, the alumni of the college were

later involved directly and indirectly in the activities of the institution. The following

categories of activities reflect the goals and objectives of the institution:

i. The best available and well qualified talent is recruited through duly

constituted selection committees. To improve teaching skill the faculty

members are motivated to attend/ organize Seminars/ Workshops/ Extension

lectures/ Faculty Development programs, to impart quality education in

consonance with the changing scenario.

ii. Advance learners are identified and encouraged to interact with the teachers.

The principal interacts with them. They are provided additional books form the

Library, Scholarships/ Fee Concession. Modern Teaching Tools like Overhead

Projector, Power Point Presentation, Multimedia LCD Projector, Internet/

Digital Libraries sessions are also held.

iii. Sports persons are provided facilities like training camps, diet charges, fee

concessions, scholarships and latest sports kits.

iv. Talent Show is held annually. Student participating in Cultural Activities are

given fee concessions. Extension Activities through NSS, NCC, and Subject

Societies are held to achieve excellence in academic, sports, cultural and

extension activities.

v. Various activities like Quiz, Essay-Writing and Poster-Making Competitions are

organized through subject societies to give personal attention to all round

development of personality.

vi. Activities like discussion on ill effects of foeticide during NSS camps, visit to Old-

Age Home and celebration of national and religious festivals are undertaken to

strive after character formation with respect for moral and spiritual values.

vii. Discussions during NSS Camps and Seminars/Various competitions organized by

Woman Cell are carried out to inculcate a sense of self respect among girls and

also create awareness of woman’s rights among then.

viii. Girl students are motivated to excel in all fields of life like academics, sports

and cultural activities. It is a matter of great prides that more than 60%

achievements in academics and maximum participation in all fields is that of

girl candidates.

ix. Moreover the college celebrates all the national festivals like Independence

day, Republic Day etc., regularly with true spirit of patriotism and national

integration.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)

The following new academic courses were started in this session

a. Masters in Mass Communication (PG)

b. Compulsory Computer Education for First year students (non-

computing) (for both UG & PG)

c. Certificate Course in Functional English (for both UG & PG)

2. Innovations in curricular design and transaction

The heads of various teaching departments formulate a term-wise syllabus in

consultation with their departmental colleagues and the same is followed during the

session. This ensures uniformity in teaching, especially where a class is being taught by

more than one teacher.

Being an affiliated institution, the college is obliged to follow the syllabus devised by the

Common Syllabi Committee (CSC) of the affiliating Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra

and the M.D. University, Rohtak. Many of our senior Associate Members contribute

significantly in the designing of the curricula by virtue of being the members of the CSC.

Educational trips to various industries/ organizations, conducting of seminars/ group

discussions are decided by the respective departments in their departmental meetings

and the same are implemented by the respective teachers-incharge. This has shown

significant improvement in the university results of the college, personality development

of the students and their placement in various P.G. courses/ employment. Modern

teaching tools like PPP, OHP and Multimedia Projectors are being used to supplement

class room teaching. There is complete emphasis on ICT based teaching-learning.

5. Examination reforms implemented

All types of internal examinations conducted by the college are on the patterns detailed

in the ordinances of various examinations. However, it would be noteworthy to mention

here that all the internal examinations conducted by the college are well-planned and

regulated by the Examinations Committee of the college, headed by the Controller of

Examinations.

7. Initiative towards faculty development programme

The college encourages its faculty members to participate regularly in Orientation and

Refresher Courses — both as a condition for Career Advancement and otherwise. It

organizes special workshops for the Ad-hoc Faculty members on Personality

18. Community services

The college is rendering selfless service to the society not only through academics but

also by providing a platform to the students to participate in community service. The

three NSS units comprising of 300 volunteers have done justice to the motto ‘Not Me,

But You.’ The volunteers try to sensitize the society by organizing various socially

relevant programmes like Adult Education and Literary Campaigns, Drug De-Addiction

and Prevention Camps, AIDS Awareness and Prevention Camps, Blood Donation Camps,

Free Medical Check-up and Health Camps etc. in an effort to mitigate the ills of the

society. The NSS volunteers are also provided with an opportunity to participate in

various Adventure, Youth Leadership and Training Camps and One Day Camps held in

and around the campus. A Ten Day Camp is also organized in some adopted village or a

slum area of the town.

It is a matter of great honour that this year 14 volunteers of the college were awarded

university merit certificates for their commendable and active participation in NSS

related activities. 20 NSS volunteers participated in Youth Leadership and Training Camp

organized by Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs, Kurukshetra University,

Kurukshetra and they were praised for their creative and productive efforts. Highlights of

16 24 Feb 2010 Blood Donation

Camp

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with Lions Club, Ambala Cantt on September 12, 2009. As many as 67 units of blood were donated by the Principal, staff members and students.

Another voluntary blood donation camp was organized in the College Auditorium in collaboration with PGI, Chandigarh on February 24, 2010. Dr Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occassion. As many as 306 units of blood was donated by the Principal, members of teaching and non-teaching staff and students. 373 units of blood were donated during the session 2009-2010.

Our donors are available on regular emergency calls not only of city hospitals but also of PGI, Chandigarh, PGI, Rohtak, Fortis, Mohali and Medical College and Hospital, Patiala.

21. Improvements in the library services

The college has a state-of-the-art library, equipped with most modern facilities. It has

a seating capacity of 300 readers.

The library has an open shelf system for both post graduate as well as under

graduate students. Photostat and lamination services are also available for students

and teachers.

Keeping in mind the importance of computers in day to day life, all sections of the

library have been linked through computer networking.

The library has a fully equipped Audio Visual Room and students have free access to

internet facility. The digital section has around 750 CDs/ DVDs and Video Cassettes.

Book Bank facility is extended to needy & meritorious students and at present 232

students are being benefited through it. This year two new Computer systems and

one Laser Printer have been added to the library to enhance the infrastructure of the

Library.

22. New books/journals subscribed and their value

This year 1025 books worth Rs 2,26,000 have been added raising the total number to

48544.

The Library is subscribing to 32 National & International research Journals, 61

Magazines & Periodicals and 25 Newspapers covering various fields including

General Knowledge, Sports, Finance, Computers, IT, Competition & Career, etc. for

the overall development of the students.

26. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificates

The college office which mainly consists of Personnel Section, Accounts Section, Fee Section, Students Section (related to University work, bus/ rail passes, issue of certificates, House Exams and Lecture Statement etc.) has been provided with computers on LAN.

The college has already computerized the services related to – admission process, all types of reports related to student’s information, collection of fees and fee related reports, lecture statement, reports related to house examination, and students progress report to be sent home, various notices, change of subject/faculty, catalogue of books in the library, salary of the staff and annual increments and college accounts.

The college has made provision for the computerization of the services related to – university exams, results of the students, issue of certificates, Students’ University Return, University Eligibility condition regarding Lectures and House Exams, Prizes in House Exams, analysis of student feedback and CD catalogue with related reports.

The college has executed the provisions (as stated above) made in computerization of services regarding- analysis of Student Feedback and CD catalogue and its related reports.

27. Increase in the infrastructural facilities

The following infrastructural facilities have been added in the current session:

The entire software and hardware configuration is periodically upgraded in tune with the global changes.

29. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching staffand students

The college has a well equipped Central Computing Facility for teachers, non-teaching staff and students where they can access the net, save data and take print-outs. It is proposed to provide internet access to all departments within the next two years.

30. Financial aid to students

The college has a glorious tradition of giving incentive and financial aid to meritorious

and economically weak students through various scholarships offered by different

agencies. The scholarships are instituted by the central and the state government,

numerous philanthropists and charitable organizations. This year as many as 304

students were awarded various scholarships such as National Merit Scholarship, State

Merit Scholarship, University Merit Scholarship, Radha Krishan Fund Scholarship and SAF

Scholarship. The total amount disbursed was Rs 6,77,990.

31. Activities and support from the Alumni Association

Following the age old Guru-Shishya tradition the college endeavours to

maintain a strong emotional bond with its old students through Alumni

Association. Each year a number of new members are added to it and their

collective effort is an asset to the institution. An old student meet is held in

the campus each year. This year Alumni Meet was held on 27 March 2010.

The Alumni Association strengthens its Alma-Mater by the following activities:

The college has a fully functional dispensary with a qualified physician attending the

same daily.

34. Performance in sports activities

The college has a long and glorious history of producing sportsmen and women of

national and international fame. This year also our sportspersons created new

landmarks and brought laurels for the institution, state and the country.

Mohit Verma was selected to represent India in Table Tennis (under 19) held in U.S.A.

and China. He won a Gold Medal in the competition. It is applaudable as for the first

time India has won Gold Medal in this category. Naresh Kumar and Anil Kumar of BA II

were members of the KU Handball Team which won Silver Medal in the All India Inter-

Varsity Handball Competition held at Punjabi Univ, Patiala. Rajni of BA III was member of

the Women Handball Team which won Third position in the All India Inter-Varsity

Handball Competition held at Punjabi Univ, Patiala. Monika and Mallika Sonali, B A II,

won fourth position in All India Inter-Varsity Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition held at

LNCP Univ, Gwalior. Amit Kumar of BA I was declared Best Athlete and Pankaj Lakra was

declared Second Best Athlete in the University Athletics Meet. Charu of B Com II was

member of the Haryana Handball Team which won Gold medal in the Inter-Zonal

Handball (Women) Competition held at Narwana. Shikha of B Com II, Ram Swaroop of B

Com II, Rajan of B Sc I and Raman of BA III also represented Haryana state at National

level.

Achievements in NCC:

The college is committed to produce disciplined, spirited and patriotic human resource

through its fully functional NCC wings of boys and girls under able command and

guidance of its NCC officers. Selfless devotion, hard work, urge for excellence &

The Vocational Guidance and Placement Cell of the college is actively involved in coordinating among recruiters and trainers for the effective placement of students:

1. Seminar on “Job Opportunities in Insurance Sector’ was held on 24 Aug2009 by DLF-pramerica Life Insurance Company.

2. Seminar on “Career Options after Graduation’ was held on 1 Dec 2009 byBull’s Eye, Chandigarh.

3. Seminar on Emerging Opportunities in Banking Sector was held on 3 Feb 2010 by IFBI, Chd.

4. Campus recruitment drive was conducted by IBM-DAKSH (B.P.O) from Gurgaon 20 Nov 2009. 9 students were selected.

5. Nouveau Medicament Pvt. Ltd. Chennai held Campus placement on 4 Jan 2010. 6 students were selected.

6. On 27-28 Jan 2010, IFBI, Chd. Selected 21 ex-students of the college who will get placements in bank after undergoing three months training.

7. On 5 Feb 2010, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, Chd. selected 9 students for the post of sales development manager.
