The Scheme is administered by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), for all UK universities.)

1998-2001 University of Bradford Scholarship: Awarded by the University of Bradford, UK, based on academic record.

Biography listed in the 6th and 15th edition of Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering, 2002, 2011. (The personal introduction to the lives and accomplishments of world leading scientists and engineers.)

Promoted to an IEEE Senior Member, October 2010. University of Bahrain Research project grant: “Wireless Space Time MIMO technology for

Broadband Communication systems "MIMO@UOB” from the deanship of research at university of Bahrain (13000 $).

AREAS OF RESEARCH AND SPECIALIZATION

I am interested in the broad intellectual theme of Wireless communications systems and Electromagnetics. Specific research topics include: Space Time Coding and MIMO for modern communication systems. Multiuser MIMO, multicarrier OFDM, Cooperative and Cognitive Networks for Wireless

Communications. Optimization techniques using evolutionary algorithms (GA, PSO, DE, Hybrid and multi-

objective techniques) Computational Electromagnetics (FDTD/MoM/FE). Electromagnetic fields interaction with Human body. Channel modeling for UWB systems Wireless Communication Technologies for Smart power Grid Applications (practical

research) Simulations of Ad-hoc networks and VANET. Home automation using wireless technology and mobile applications (practical research)

RESEARCH ACTIVITES

I started my research activities as a postgraduate student in the field of Optical CDMA communication systems at Alexandria University in 1993. This topic combines two major fascinating fields of engineering communications and optics. I published one journal and two conference papers for simulating the full system along with its mathematical analysis. This work was at a high quality level such that it helped me to achieve my goal of having a PhD scholarship in UK. My research work towards receiving my PhD degree (1997-2001) commands wide international respect and the group within which I worked proved to be a major asset to the excellent research profile of the School of Engineering, University of Bradford, England, UK. I know that my contribution to this research profile has been a major part of the total. I was a partner in the pan-European project 'CEPHOS' developing standardized test and simulation procedures across Europe. This led to major successes in the development of the hybrid field computation method and novel designs for mobile communications antennas. My contribution of the development of novel Hybrid MoM/FDTD is recognized as one of the major international scientific activity for university of Bradford. This work led to the design of novel miniaturized low-SAR antennas.

My postdoctoral research started in (Oct. 2001-Dec 2005) at AAST. During this period I initiated a research on the design of optimum antennas using genetic algorithm optimization and smart antennas for CDMA systems. From this research some valuable publications were produced. Due to the quality of this research I was promoted to associate professor on Oct. 2005.

Later on, on (Jan. 2006-Feb 2007) I joined Virginia Tech. as an adjunct professor. Also, I joined MPRG group as a visiting member. MPRG @ VT is recognized globally as one of the most successful wireless communications research groups in US (http://www.mprg.org). During this period I was involved in some research in OFDM for wireless communications. As a co-principle

investigator, I submitted a joint research project proposal with title: “Early Landslide Warning System at Mokattam Hills with Satellite Imagery”.

Afterward, (April 2007 till now) I joined EE department, University of Bahrain. I am continuing my research in the field of wireless communications focusing in channel modeling for MIMO systems for ad hoc networks and multimedia networks. This work was granted a fund for a research project “Wireless Space Time MIMO technology for Broadband Communication systems "MIMO@UOB” from the deanship of research at university of Bahrain (13000 $). Simultaneously, I resumed my work on evolutionary algorithm techniques for antenna optimizations. I originated and proposed several novel fast algorithms for solving electromagnetics scattering problems such as Enhanced version of PSO and Hybrid DE and PSO techniques. Also, some initial research activity is going on now in the field of wireless adhoc networks, cooperative and cognitive networks(with two Ms.c students) smart power grids (final year project).

I have been serving as a frequent peer reviewer for IEEE Antennas and Propagation journal and Progress In Electromagnetics Research Journals. Meanwhile I am heading the communications group of EE department, UoB trying to promote and enhance the research of wireless communication.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTING EXPERIENCE

TEACHING ACTIVITIES AND PHILOSOPHY

I have been working in the academic carrier since I finished my undergraduate studies in 1993. I worked at the department of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Egypt that was established in 1972, ranked among the top non-governmental institutes in Egypt As TA from (1993-1997) then Assistant professor (2001- 2006). During being an assistant professor at AAST I taught 9 courses for under and postgraduate levels . During my PhD studies (1997-2001) I was assigned as a TA for some electronics and telecommunications courses at EE department, university of Bradford, UK. In (2006-2007) I joined the prestigious Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), USA as an adjunct professor. I had the opportunity to enrich my teaching experience in spring 2006 at Blacksburg, VA (I taught 2 courses and assist in one postgraduate course with Prof. Bill Tranter). (2007 – 2011) I am with ABET accredited, EE department university of Bahrain where I gained some extra experience in teaching about 12 different

courses at one of top multicultural research universities in GCC region. Also, in Sept. 2012 I was cooperating with Bahrain polytechnic to teach in Engineering and Design Technologies department. Bahrain Polytechnic has been established by the Bahrain Government to address the need for a skilled Bahraini labour force aimed at supporting economic growth and diversification

As a result of the appraisal and evaluation results of my students, I strongly believe that I produced an exceptionally good output during all periods. During these years and due to my exposure to different cultures from around the world, I gained an extensive experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Therefore, I formed the following principles and philosophy that I am following and will follow in my future To persuade my students that the knowledge and skills we are studying are valuable and worth learning. To teach my students to think independently and to lead them to derive new ideas and methods by

themselves. To encourage students to have personal development and support positive thinking about their future

carrier after they graduate To emphasize on the practical side and applications behind the theory of my courses and to make them

realize the purpose of EE study. To inspire students, to change their lives, so that they discover life paths that they had never considered

before. To use directed questioning at classes to get all students to actively engage in the lectures and

participate in the discussion To develop and keep updating course website or the e-Education platform to include all materials

(Sheets, samples of quizzes, samples of exams, previous students presentations) and make sure that it reaches all the students

To Use web-based home works or assignment via e-Education platform system to give the students faster and more useful feedback and to apply the new e-learning and distant-learning tools that allow interactivity between the professor and his students in the classroom or among students themselves.

To use social networking (Facebook, Twitter,… ) and mobile education solution for learning beyond the classroom, which allow some space for the students to learn at times that best fit their schedules, for instance: Dr. Mohab Mangoud Courses face book page (all courses) EEG 473 (Mobile communications course activities page)

To know the students in my classes well, talk with them, be in contact, develop relationships and most importantly to become friends.

To make use of every opportunity to make students enjoy learning and have fun while gaining their knowledge.
