GENERAL BUSINESS

1.Supper Roster

March and April now filled in.Thank you!

2.AGMPlease think about nominating for a position on the committee. No committee, no club.

3.NOS events

Paul and Kerryn willing to host a visit – distance a possible problem. Rob Marchant needs to be approached re:bus.Lynne Strathie is willing to host a workshop. Mid year visit to Botanical gardens followed by fish and chips or similar is a possibility.

4. LOC Orchid SpectacularThis is taking place across Mother’s Day weekend. NOS has now received an official request to run a tea/coffee/cake stall: however, there are still concerns regarding the quality of some of the products. A representative from LOC will attend the next committee meeting to discuss this.

Still need a person to oversee ordering etc. Suggestions to change what is offered [foodwise] were not seen as practicable.Do we need to change prices for this year? New committee to advise costings. General consensus was that the current suppliers are probably the best. New committee to investigate if this is still the case.Very important that there are sufficient volunteers to man the stall as it does raise money for the club.

5. AOBa. Request from AOC to sponsor one or more classes at September show.b. Marilyn Galt has donated 3 boxes of orchids for end of year auction [in care of Di

Dowling]c. Formal vote of thanks to Marilyn Galt for all that she and her family have contributed

to NOS over the years.d. Still a need to investigate new shirts and badges. New committee to investigate.4 | P a g e

1. AGM

TWO MONTHS UNTIL THE ORCHID SPECTACULAR

START CHECKING YOUR PLANTS FOR ‘SPIKES’ AND STAKING THEM IF

NECESSARY.

MD requested check list of procedures and documentation needed: Last Year’s AGM minutes and Audited reports neededStill a need to resubmit Audited Financial report to the appropriate department. At present, the format seems to be incorrect.

2. Refreshments for LOC Spectacular .The Presidentof LOC, Sherryl Fett, has received complaints from public with regard to the perceived quality of tea and coffee used for the Cream Teas and also the aerosol canned cream used.LOC has requested that we produce a submission of what will be on offer for this year’s cream teas. Discussion resulted in the following ideas/agreements:Real cream to be used [there is sufficient refrigeration available for storage]Cost of buying ‘dollop” type cream in bulk to be investigatedCould some speciality products such as Mother’s day cupcakes be offered? No lamingtons Possible use of a Coffee machine; possibly with real coffee at an additional costPrice was $6 last year. Should it now increase to perhaps $7.50 for better quality consumablesInformation to be sought concerning coffee costs and capacity of possible machinesProbable that instant coffee will still be the main product on offer.Trays may be needed if drinks are to be taken to table.Full cream and lite milk still offered

Coffee: 3 large jars of Mocano medium roast was used last year [bought when on special offer at the supermarket.].Tea: Dilmah tea bags used last year.Minimum of 3 people needed for ordering and collecting etc. of materials before the actual weekendA new or modified Banner will be needed in order to advertise the NOS Spring Show. Pricings needed

Brassanthe Maikai. This is a primary hybrid made by crossing Brassavola nodosa and Guarinathe bowringiana

C. Jungle Queen x C. Snowbird owned by B & S McKeon

FLOWERING IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH

Coelogyne Lime Bay. A primary hybrid between Coelogyne speciosa and Coelogyne usitana. The former species flowers well in Darwin, but the other parent does not.

Miltonia Goodale Moir x Angela Barker. This orchid seems to require particular conditions to flower. It has not flowered for at least 2 years, but this February, all 3 plants flowered, and better than they ever have.11 | P a g e

Vanda Green Light. This is a primary hybrid between Vanda vietnamica and Vanda falcata. It is one of those hybrids that really looks like a combination of both parents.

Bulbophyllum Herlyn’s Delight. This is a primary hybrid between Bulbophyllum erythrostictum x echinolabium.

12 | P a g e

Dendrobium spectabile. This is one of the Latouria section Dendrobiums

and most have these twisted sepals and petals that people either love or hate

Vanda Bronze Butterfly. This is a primary hybrid between 2 well loved species that flower well in Darwin: Vanda lamellata and Vanda denisoniana

13 | P a g e

Bulbophyllum Sunshine Queen. This is another primary hybrid between two orchids that flower well in Darwin: Bulbophyllum mastersianum and Bulb. corolliferum
