How to Make Equations Using Microsoft Word

1. Title your page:

Variance and Standard Deviation for Grouped Data*Project is assumed to be normally distributed*

2. Insert a table.

3. Complete the table using your APPROVED rough draft.

4.Under your table type “The following steps were used to compute variance and standard deviation.”

5. To begin constructing your equation go to the INSERT tab, then EQUATION, and then INSERT NEW EQUATION

5. Click inside the box, and then SCRIPT. Choose the first box.

6. In the first box type “s” and in the second box type “2”. Now use your right arrow to move once and then type “=”

7. Now click on the xy button and choose the FIRST fraction.

8. Click inside the top box. Type “-“ and then go to BRACKETS and choose the SECOND option.

9. In the top box click on the xy button again. In the top box click on the exbutton and choose the first

option.

10. Click inside the TOP, BIG box, go to the BRACKETS and choose the first option.

11. You may now begin to click where necessary to fill in the numbers for your FIRST STEP.

12. Click BEHIND the equation, hit ENTER, and begin again with STEP TWO and BEYOND of your equation for variance.

13. When finished with variance, click under STANDARD DEVIATION and begin to insert an equation. Type “s=” and then the n√X button. Click in the box and type in the number for variance.

14. You should complete standard deviation by adding one more step. Insert an equation, type “s=” and type the correct number for STANDARD DEVIATION.

15. Change the FONT and SIZE of your document.

16. Make sure to SAVE AS: Period #_Frequency Distribution Table

17. To see the final product go to FILE, then PRINT.

18. Email to all group members.
