How To Download Word Q For Home Use

Step 1: Using your web browser type “dcdsb.ca”

Step 2: Then Select “Students” at the top of the DCDSB website.

You can also access the LaunchPad Learning Portal on the right hand side of the DCDSB website if you scroll down the page.

Step 4: Select “OSAPAC Software.”

Step 5: Select “Resources”

Step 6: Select “Digital Learning Resources”

Step 7: Scroll down and select the smaller “Word Q”

Step 8: Select the download that is your operating system i.e. Mac or PC.

Setting up/Training Word Q

Depending on the operating system you have Word Q will start up in one of 2 ways.

Macs:

Step 1. Once you click on the icon:

A floating Word Q toolbar should appear:

You will then have to personalize it by changing the name from Word Q to your own by clicking on “Options” on the floating toolbar and then selecting “New User”

You will press “Next”

Then select and double click on “Language and country”

Select the level i.e., “Canadian Advanced”

Press “Next” again

Then type on your name and “Save”

Now you can select the number of words within the prediction box and whether or not you want the prediction box to follow the cursor or have it placed where you want it:

Select “Prediction”

Choose # of Words: Depending on age but the maximum amount is 9 but I would not choose over 6 words as it will be too many to choose from.

Now you can slect “Leave in Place’ or just leave it on “Follow the Cursor’ Then click on “OK”

Selecting the voice and speed:Select “Options” again on the floating toolbar

Then select “Speech Feedback”

Select and try a voice in the drop down menu and use the scroll bar to select your speed. There is a “Try” button so you can hear the voice and the speed.

Then select “OK”

You can now select the words either using the cursor or the numbers and Word Q will type out the words for you. If you place a period or punctuation at the end of the sentence Word Q will read it back to you. You can also highlight your typed work and select “Read”

Word Q for the PC:

Click on the Word Q icon on the desk or in your programs.

You will then see the next screen: Select “Next”
