The branches form a connected nodal structure. A mind map also connect the “branches” and “twigs” across the page to each other. This will help you find the connections between pieces that, at first, might not show similarities or differences, but after reviewing the specifics or abstracts of ideas, seem to align with a single thought, visual representation, or even a shared text that explains both ideas.

Mind Map on Redemption

You have read two texts that presents two ideas about redemption: The Kite Runner poses the idea that redemption is possible, but the editorial titled “On War and Redemption” by Timothy Kudo theorizes that redemption might not be possible, especially during war. You will create a mind map that presents the events in both The Kite Runner and “On War and Redemption” along with the morals and themes that can summarize these events and tie them to real life. A mind map is another way to organize and connect thoughts, but in a visual manner that might serve a deeper purpose than what might appear on the page.

Mind mapping is a highly effective way of getting information in and out of your brain. Mind mapping is a creative and logical means of note-taking and note-making that literally "maps out" your ideas.

All Mind Maps have some things in common. They have a natural organizational structure that radiates from the center and use lines, symbols, words, color and images according to simple, brain-friendly concepts. Mind mapping converts a long list of monotonous information into a colorful, memorable and highly organized diagram that works in line with your brain's natural way of doing things.

One simple way to understand a Mind Map is by comparing it to a map of a city. The city center represents the main idea; the main roads leading from the center represent the key thoughts in your thinking process; the secondary roads or branches represent your secondary thoughts, and so on. Special images or shapes can represent landmarks of interest or particularly relevant ideas.

The Mind Map is the external mirror of your own radiant or natural thinking facilitated by a powerful graphic process, which provides the universal key to unlock the dynamic potential of the brain.

The five essential characteristics of Mind Mapping:

The main idea, subject or focus is crystallized in a central image. The main themes radiate from the central image as 'branches'. The branches comprise a key image or key word drawn or printed on its

associated line. Topics of lesser importance are represented as 'twigs' of the relevant branch.

Your mind map may take any shape, but you must show the connection between ideas revolving around the idea of “redemption”. This mind

Mind Map Gallery Walk

Walk around and look at five or more mind maps. Write down at least three “aha!” moments or connections that you learned about from other mind maps.

We will have a Socratic Seminar on Thursday, January 15, 2015. EVERY PERSON WILL PARTICIPATE and will be expected to speak. The topics are not limited to, but must include:

The Kite Runner (events, characters, etc.) “On War and Redemption” by Timothy Kudo The idea of redemption within the book, the article, other books read in class, and/or real-life events

To prepare yourself for the Socratic Seminar, you will write down at least two questions below that you can use during the Socratic Seminar tomorrow. Do not use the question “How is redemption present in the book or article?” or anything similar to that. Be creative. Be precise. Most of all, find ways to discuss the book and the article that are real and show depth in your perception of the topic.
