JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

GENERALThank you for choosing Horizon as your training provider and booking a place on our Level 3 Close Protection course, certified by AoFAQ. We welcome you on the start of a potential career in the profession of Protective Security. These instructions have been specifically compiled for students wishing to undergo training and qualification in order to obtain a Security Industry Authority (SIA) license. The content of our Close Protection course has been carefully designed utilising our Instructors extensive military experience and many years working in the Close Protection industry, to provide one of the most in depth and comprehensive courses in the market today. The course contains a mixture of classroom theory work and practical training exercises in various training areas, involving scenarios and role-play exercises. The course syllabus is directed towards Close Protection Operatives wishing to pursue a career in either Hostile or Executive environments.

PURPOSEYou should read these joining instructions carefully, as there are a number of things you need to prepare and complete before your arrival. Should you have any further questions having read these instructions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

VENUE INFORMATIONHorizon’s Bulgarian Close Protection course will be held at our Range Complex in Voivodinovo, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The full address is 360-Degree Shooting & Tactical Training Centre, 132km Trakia Highway, Voivodinovo, Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The Range & Training Centre is situated between the village of Voivodinovo and the Trakia Highway (A1). The road that leads to the Range can be easily missed, particularly if you are arriving at night. There is a large white Horizon Sign at the junction leading down to the Range. If you are travelling from Plovdiv and are going through Voivodinovo and you hit the Trakia Highway, then you have gone too far. Similarly, if you are travelling from Sofia and find yourself in Voivodinovo, then you have also gone too far.

To find the location on Google Maps, simply go into Google maps and type in 360 Shooting & Training Centre, Plovdiv, Bulgaria and you will see a similar photograph to Fig 1 below.

If you are arriving at Plovdiv Airport, then it is approximately 30 minutes in a Taxi and the route you should take is similar to the photograph in Fig 2 below.

If you arriving at Sofia Airport, then it is approximately 90 minutes in a Taxi and the route you will take is similar to the photograph in Fig 3 below. Taxis are available and will cost approximately 175BGN. Buses are also available from Sofia to Plovdiv, take approximately 2 hours and cost approximately 12BGN.

ACCOMMODATION

The living accommodation is supplied on-site at 360 degrees shooting & training center https://shooting360.bg/accommodation-on-site/ There are Twin, Double and Single rooms spread over three floors. Bedding is supplied. The accommodation has heaters (for winter courses) and air conditioning (for summer courses). Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the accommodation. There is also a student lounge containing a large screen TV, sofas, fridge, and washing machine/tumble dryer (without additional charges). All rooms are en-suite and have their own fridge and television. The cost of accommodation is €15 per person per night. Secure parking is included in the price of the accommodation. Payment for the accommodation is taken on the first day of your arrival. Student who are not using the accommodation are charged €5 per day for using of complex facilities.

Students are strongly advised to take advantage of the on-site accommodation during the course as there are numerous late evening finishes and early morning starts, where the course needs to work as a Team. It also reduces the chances of students forgetting a bit of equipment, clothing or paperwork because they have left it at their off-site accommodation. Punctuality is a crucial element of being a CPO and for students who elect to stay off-site, lateness to morning classes due to traffic, weather etc. will be viewed in a poor light.

MEALSThroughout the course, students are responsible for their own meals. Time will be allocated for students to have lunch in local restaurants in nearby Voivodinovo. Alternatively, there are a

number of stores/supermarkets in Voivodinovo and Plovdiv where students can purchase their own meals to store in the fridges provided.

HEALTH & SAFETYNo student is to perform any activity potentially affecting the occupational health or safety of any person unless a suitable safety officer has approved or monitors the activity.

A full Range Safety Brief will be conducted every morning prior to any Live Firing commencing.

During all Live Firing practices, a comprehensive medical pack will be on-site at all times. All Horizon Instructors are medical trained and qualified to FREC Level. A safety vehicle will be on-site throughout each day’s training. There are three Hospitals with an A&E facility at each one, all within 15 minutes of the Range Complex. A full medical plan with addresses and contact numbers of the nearest Medical locations will be held on the Range during all training.

COURSE COMMENCEMENTThe course commences at 0900hrs. If you wish to arrive the day before the course commences, then please contact Geri to book your accommodation and let her know what time you will be arriving so that your key can be left in your door. Geri will inform you what room you are allocated.

COURSE DISPERSALStudents can depart from the course after 16:00 hrs on the final day of the course. However, please bear in mind that flights may not be available for that specific time. Please ensure any transport arrangements you make takes this into consideration. Accommodation can be extended to cover the night before the course starts and the night after the course ends. An end of course social evening is planned for the final day of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATES & REPORTSCertificates of qualification will be dispatched to your designated address The Awarding Body post course certificates to Horizon and this takes place after the course results are provided to them. Weapons Competency and B6 Armoured Vehicle Certificates will be issued to each student, by the Instructor, prior to the end of the course PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR AFTER THE COURSE HAS FINISHED ENQUIRING ABOUT YOUR CP, FPOS OR MIRA CERTIFICATES.

On the final day of the course your instructor will give you comprehensive and constructive feedback on your performance throughout the course. No Course Report will be issued to the student.

INTERVIEWS FOR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIESAt the end of some courses, a recruiting representative from GardaWorld, Blackstone Consultancy and/or G4S may conduct interviews of students who have passed the course at the required standard and who meet the required Hiring Criteria. Your Instructor will inform you if you have been selected for an interview or not. SIMPLY ATTENDING THE COURSE DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN INTERVIEW. YOU MUST WORK HARD AND PROVE THAT YOU HAVE EARNED THAT PRIVELEDGE AND YOU MUST MEET THE HIRING CRITERIA. Horizon has no knowledge or oversight of what employment opportunities, contracts or terms and conditions of contracts may be offered

COURSE PAYMENT TERMS & CONDITIONSIn line with our Terms and Conditions you are reminded that unless previous arrangements have been agreed, full payment of the course fees must be made 1 week before commencement of the course. Failure to carry out the aforementioned will result in the forfeit of your place on the course and loss of your holding deposit.

The preferred method of payment for both deposits and balance payments is via the booking system on our website at www.horizon.uk.com and students are encouraged to use this system of payment.

CANCELLATIONS BY STUDENTSShould your circumstances change and you need to transfer to another course, then this will be completed free of charge, providing there are available spaces and the transfer takes place within 12 months following the original course start date. If there are no available spaces on the requested transfer course/date, then Horizon will look at alternative dates. If no alternative dates are available, then our cancellation charges will apply.

If you are a consumer and make a booking via our website or by telephone, you have a legal right to cancel a Contract under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation & Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (‘Distance Selling Regulations’). This means that during the relevant period if you change your mind or for any other reason you decide you do not want to enroll on a course, you can notify us of your decision to cancel the Contract and receive a refund. Advice about your legal right to cancel the Contract under these regulations is available from your local Citizens’ Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office.

If you exercise your legal right to cancel under the Distance Selling Regulations, you will receive a full refund of the price you paid when booking. We will process the refund due to you as soon as possible and, in any case, within 14 calendar days of the day on which you gave us notice of cancellation.

Your legal right to cancel a Contract starts from the date when a booking is made - which is when the Contract between us is formed. You have a period of 14 calendar days in which you may cancel the booking, starting from the day after the day when the booking is made. If this period ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday then the period will be extended until the next working day.

If your course is due to start within the cancellation period, then your legal right to cancel is as follows:

If your course has started and ended during the cancellation period, then your legal right to cancel will not apply

If your course has started but is due to end after the cancellation period, then your legal right to cancel still applies. However, you will have to pay a proportion of the course fee, which we will base on the total price of the course and the period of the course from the start date to the date of cancellation.

If you decide to cancel your course outside of the relevant cancellation period and you are unable to transfer your booking to another date at the time of cancellation, the following charges will apply:

All cancellation or transfer requests must be submitted in writing and received by Horizon before the course commences.

CANCELLATIONS BY HORIZONOn occasions and for unforeseen circumstances, Horizon may find it necessary to cancel a course. In such circumstances you will be given as much notice as possible and the offer of a free transfer to another date, or a full refund of fees paid. We accept liability for losses you suffer as a result of us breaking this agreement if the losses are a foreseeable consequence.

BEHAVIOURStudents are expected to treat the accommodation, range complex, staff, fellow students and local drivers with respect. Course Instructors are to be treated with courtesy and good manners. Horizon is an equal opportunities training provider and we regularly receive students from a wide variety of ethnicities, religions and sexual orientation. We have a No Tolerance policy towards any racial, sexual or religious bigotry.

MOBILE COMMUNICATIONSMobile phone coverage at the Range and Training Centre is excellent. There are also no extra roaming charges by network providers. Mobile phones are to be switched off during all training activities. If you expect an emergency call, please inform your Instructor.

SMOKING POLICYThere is a strict no smoking policy inside the Training Centre and/or accommodation. There is a designated and seated smoking area outside. Smoking areas on the range will be pointed out during range day activities. Students are requested to remain considerate of cigarette disposal methods and use the bins provided.

PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTSVERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND ACT ON ALL REQUESTS:

LanguageThe course is taught in English only and therefore it is a requirement for you to be able to speak, read and write English fluently. This is to ensure that at no stage on the course you misunderstand the instructions and guidance being delivered which could result in you failing the course. You will not be selected for an interview with unless your English is of a good standard. All Interviews are conducted in English and the Interviewer will expect a good level of conversational English.

Physical Fitness PreparationThere is a requirement for you to have a good level of fitness prior to attending this course and as such you will be required to sign a ‘Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire’ (PAR-Q) on the first day of the course. There will be a basic Physical Fitness Assessment at the beginning of the Course. The purpose of which, is to highlight to the student the need for a good level of fitness and allow the student to then improve their fitness accordingly.

Accreditation of Previous and/or Prior Learning (APL)To achieve the Level 3 Close Protection qualification, you are required to pass all learner outcomes of the course, which includes three multiple-choice examinations, final practical exercise and candidate’s portfolio of evidence. To support your portfolio of evidence, you will be required to prepare an up to date CV with your newly acquired qualifications added. Your updated CV should be e-mailed to the Instructor prior to the end of the course.

IdentificationAs part of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) application and licensing process, you will be asked to provide two items of photographic identification from group A on the first day of the course. At least one must show your date of birth.

If you are unable to provide two items of photographic evidence, then you can provide one identity document from group A and two documents from group B. At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth. (Highlighted in bold are the preferred forms of ID)

DRESS & EQUIPMENTA comprehensive dress and equipment list for students is contained below. Students are permitted and encouraged to bring their own tactical equipment; although it will be supplied at the Training Centre should they require it.

Please be aware that some of the training is robust, aggressive and conducted in conditions not conducive to expensive clothing brands. Therefore, casual clothing is all that is required. Students are also requested to bring a jacket that covers the waist, as you will be conducting drills from a concealed carry position, waist-holstered position. All pistol shooting tradecraft and mechanics will be from a waist-holstered position. A robust belt is required. No Thigh Holstered or Plate Carrier-Mounted drills will be taught as neither position is conducive to working in crowded and/or enclosed places.

During summer months (Apr-Sep), temperatures can easily surpass 30C on the Range. Please bring sun block and appropriate sun protective clothing.

During winter months (Oct-Mar), temperatures can fall to around -10C on the Range and snow is a daily occurrence. Please bring appropriate warm and waterproof clothing.

There may be evening work during the course and students should make their own fitness/running arrangements.

A small rucksack is also required for range days.

Ear-Defence will be provided for Live Firing practices. However, feel free to bring your own. Holsters and magazine holders will be provided on the range. However, you may bring your own belt kit, holsters and magazine holders as long as they are of a universal design that will fit Glock 17, Glock 19, SIG or CZ.

Clothing requirements are governed by the time of year that the course is being run. Please look at this clothing suggestion and amend appropriately for the time of year. We suggest that you consult either weather apps or weather websites for accurate forecasts prior to course attendance.

Robust footwear - NO MILITARY BOOTS Robust trousers (walking trousers or jeans) – NO MILITARY/DPM TROUSERS T-shirts/fleeces/shirts (as appropriate for the weather conditions) Waterproof/warm jackets (as appropriate for the weather conditions) – NO

MILITARY/DPM JACKETS Cold weather wooly hats and gloves are permitted as long as neither interferes with the

ability to carry out the necessary weapon drills. Large scrubbing brush (for cleaning footwear after range practices) Eye protection (although this will be supplied) PT/Running Kit – NO TRACKSUITS OR SHORTS ARE TO BE WORN ON THE RANGE.

Throughout the duration of the training course, various activities will take place both inside and outside the classroom environment, therefore you must bring with you the following items of clothing:

Smart, casual clothing (jeans, shoes, shirt, suit jacket/blazer) Equally appropriate dress for female students. A pair of smart formal shoes (lace-up only). Female students are also to ensure that they bring smart, formal shoes (Kitten Heel,

Pumps, Slingbacks etc.). A riggers style belt Ladies ONLY ; dress shirts, sports bra,

A sufficient quantity of casual clothing for duration of the course NO TRACKSUITS OR SHORTS ARE TO BE WORN IN THE CLASSROOM

PERSONAL ITEMSYou are strongly encouraged to bring items that will be helpful to you during the course. Such as:

Sufficient coat hangers A head torch (with sufficient batteries), required for medical exercises.

ELECTRONIC EQIPMENTStudents must also bring a laptop computer with Google Earth, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint etc pre-installed (for the Ops planning phase).

Horizon will not be held responsible for the loss or damage to your personal belongings should it occur. STATIONARY & COURSE MATERIALSYou are required to bring the following items to the course:

A4 writing pad A good writing pen (black ink) and pencil

A Horizon issued memory stick will be issued on Day 1 of the course. This memory stick contains all the relevant and necessary hand-outs that you will need for the duration of the course.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONPlease read all instructions that are emailed to you carefully. There may be other documents that are requested from you prior to attending our courses. If you have any special needs such as prayer time, dietary requirements or medical requirements, please inform us prior to the course and we will try our best to accommodate you. There may be times when it is not possible,

such as when it may cause disruption to the rest of the class and your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
