Sub Theme/8: Benefits Of A Life That Pleases God.Topic: Eternal Life With God.Texts: John 3:16; Rev.21:1-4, 22-27; 22:1-5.Aims: i) To understand the practical concept of eternal

life with God;ii) To strive to please God so as to enter therein.

Introduction: The word ‘eternal’ means “without end in time”. The Dictionary of Theology defines ‘eternal life’ as “life everlasting in the presence of God”. Eternal life with God is dwelling with God and having a very close and enduring personal fellowship with Him. Eternal life with God begins the moment a person exercises faith in Christ and receives the new birth; and continues as our current possession (Jn. 3: 36) until we reach its final state at the resurrection of believers, when Christ returns to take His Church home.

Study Guide1a. What do you understand by the term ‘eternal life with

God’? John 3:16; 17: 1-3.b. How would you describe eternal life in the light of the

following scriptures?John 3:14-18, 36; Rev. 20:14, 15; 21:1-4, 22-27; 22:1-5?

c. How is this life different from the natural life? Cf. John 3:5-6.

2a. How does one qualify for eternal life?John 3:16, 36; 6:47-51, 54; Heb.5:9; 1 John 5:11-13.

b. What are the true qualities of eternal life?Rom. 8:1, 5-11; Heb. 5:9; Gal. 5:16-18, 22-25.

3. In what sense can eternal life be described as one of the benefits of a life that pleases God? John 6:40,

Rev. 21: 6-7. Cf. Luke 9:62.

Conclusion: Eternal life, a gift of God that comes only through Jesus Christ, is the core benefit for a life that pleases God. We receive it by receiving Christ into our hearts as Saviour and Lord.

But all who have got this life must strive to keep it by faith unto the end so as to enter the fullness of it. Be so determined!

Food For Thought: Look beyond your present experience to the bliss at the consummation of your faith.

RESTORATION EXTRA.Introduction: Glory be to God, Jehovah Elohim, The Author of life, creator of the Heavens and the earth for making it possible for us to be alive this last Sunday year 2018.

We thank God for the leadership of our Church at all levels and particularly for the New leadership of the Diocese of Lagos. The Rt. Revd. Dr. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye and Prof. Mrs. Motunrayo Olumakaiye because the Spiritual Thermometer of the Diocese has risen considerably. We say more elbow grease. We are encouraged by your leadership – Halleluyah. We have received from the central Theme for year 2019 from His lordship which is tagged My Year of Rising Glory (2 Cor. 3:18) and as a prelude to this theme today we shall examine the topic Restoration Extra – Ref: Eph. 2:3-5; 12-14.

Our Nation, our State, individuals, The Church craves for restoration. We are indeed experiencing many challenges, Terrorism, Kidnapping, Bakoharam, Corruption, Rape etc

In Joel Chapter 2:25 specific reference was made of the locust plague, but it would also assume that God brought the plaque on the land and the people. However if the people repented. Joel gives a wonderful picture of the Restoration of their livelihood. Joel calls on the people to repent through fasting… weeping… mourning. The extent to which Joel’s calls them to repent manifests the extent into Apostasy to which they had gone. Joel’s request for repentance was based on the severity of the plaque and famine.

The Word Restore means “to normalize,” to recreate, to bring back into existence, to re-establish whereas the word Extra means more than usual or necessary, Additional. “Restoration Extra” may then be interpreted as a re-establishment that is more than usual or a recreation that is above ordinary or above the initial level.

Candidly, whilst it is within the power of man to restore lost things such as property, material things, money etc no man can restore lost time, God is the only one that can make such promise and keep it a situation of a loss. However believers are not to seek restoration only in health, finances, business, profession or

carrier, academic success, marriage stability etc without corresponding desire for a good relationship with God seeking such only can be equated to spiritual death which is tantamount to divine condemnation.

People at the time of Joel were at a (point of death) because of

environmental calamity. He thus called on the people to repent in

their hearts in order that God bring them relief from destruction.

Elder… Children…. Priests…. The call to repentance was to all

people, rich, poor, young or old, male or female of all races.

Indicating that the

entire world (Nations) all had developed a culture that promoted sin. The call for repentance was therefore more than an appeal to individuals. It involved everyone of the society to turn to God. Heritage to reproach the fall of man in the Garden of Eden was the beginning of the loss of human race (SIN). A separation from God that metamorphosed into Eternal Death. Joel described this as the cause of the plague.

It is very possible to assume all who attend Church Service are Christians, this definitely is far from the truth (Eph. 2:3) Worship centres are not exempted from phone, bag stealing, not exempted from Adultery and fornication, pride, arrogance etc. sometimes to ordinarily distribute about thirty items between twenty brethren may go round, you may then ask where is our Christianity?

Paul’s invitation to the Romans 12:1-2 for the believer not to be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind is quick and apt for all. Many who come to Church are still for from Christ (Eph. 2:12-14). Can we say with conviction that majority of us Christians have the peace of God is our giving commensurate with the provision of God for us? Restoration Extra is about addressing all aspects of our lives that needs recreation.

The fact that we are still alive today makes it possible for us to still be part of God’s restoration plan, tomorrow may be too late. His agenda of Restoration Extra is still for you and your career, ministry, business, health including your lost years, remember with God nothing shall be impossible – all things are possible. Return to God, Repent of all your sins, recorgnise His sovereignty, and you shall never be put to shame. Read Isaiah 44:1-8 – says: God bless you this 2019.
