~ The Centering Bell ~ Lighting of the Light ~ The Life of LOCC ~

L: Which are the magic moments in ordinary time? All of them, for those who can see. This is what redemption means …

It is on those ordinary days, when not much is spectacular; when the stresses of every day life are heavy; when we feel like God and our friends no longer notice, that God breaks through.

P: We now make room for the ordinary which recreates us as we worship God.

Gathering Blessed the Broken Road Hummond/Hanna

I set out on a narrow path many years ago; Hoping I would find my way along the broken road; I got lost a time or two; Wiped my brow and kept pushing through;

I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to You.

Every long lost dream led me to where You are; Others along the way, they were like Northern stars; Pointing me on my way into God’s loving arms; This much I know is true;

That so blessed is the broken road; That led me straight to You.

I think about the years I spent just passing through; I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to You; But You just smile and take my hand; You've been there; You understand;

It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true.

Now I'm just safe at home; Knowing I’m not alone; This much I know is true; That so blessed is the broken road; That led me straight to You.

Call To Worship ~ Isaiah 40

L: Why do you say, “My way is hidden from the Lord. My God ignores my predicament”?

Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth.

God doesn’t grow tired or weary. God’s understanding is beyond human reach. God gives power to the tired; and revives the exhausted.

Even young people become tired and weary. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength;

They will fly up on wings like eagles; They will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.

ALL: THANKS BE TO GOD!

Response Lead Me, Guide Me Doris Akers Sung Twice

~ We Listen for the Voice of God ~

Hebrew Scriptures Genesis 21:5-21 Common English Bible

Reading 1 (Sarah) - My husband, Abraham, was 100 years old when our son, Isaac was born. God gave us laughter – and when they hear of this my friends will laugh with me. Isaac kept growing. The day of his weaning had come. It was time to celebrate so we threw a great party! Later, I saw Ishmael, the son of Hagar my maid, playing and laughing with our son Isaac. Hagar, a slave, had borne a son to Abraham as well. I told my husband to throw her out, along with her son. No slave and a son were going to inherit equally as MY son will. But this really upset Abraham – as this was HIS son too.

All sing the refrain

Reading 3 (Narrator) - God told Abraham not to be upset or to worry about the boy or the mother. Instead, he was to do all that his wife told him to do. God promised that the descendants of both sons would create great nations.

Reading 4 (Ishmael) - Abraham, my father, got up early, gave bread and water to my mother, Hagar, and sent both of us away. We began to wander in the desert. When the water was gone, my mother pushed me away and told me to hide in the bushes, and she just left. I could hear her say over and over, “God, don’t allow me to see my son’s death.” She then began to weep.

All sing the refrain

Reading 5: (Hagar) - I do not know what my boy said. But as I was weeping, God told me that God knew my Son, and had heard Ishmael’s voice. I was not to be afraid. I was to go get my son, and to keep on going into the desert. And right there it was – a well. I drew water, enough for both of us, and we moved on.

L: The Word of the Lord! ALL: Thanks be to God!

~ We Respond ~

Response Everyone Who Longs Sung-Ho Park

Everyone who longs for the boundless love of God; Everyone who hopes for the coming of God’s peace; The Lord God who created all things beautiful and good; Loves you more than

you can ever fully know. Everyone who worships God and sings glad songs of praise; Everyone who follows the goodness of God’s ways; The Lord God who created all things

beautiful and good; Loves you now as one of God’s own. God is always watching over you; God is watching you with loving eyes. God is hearing you in all your prayers; God is listening with tender, loving ears; God shines light in every dark

and fearful place we go; And will answer every little cry that you make; So wherever you may go, just follow in God’s loving ways; And trust God to take you home.

The Giving, *Presentation and Blessing of our Gifts

L: We give thanks for all that God has given us. P: May God bless all that we offer: our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service.

~ We Gather as Community ~

*Passing of the Peace L: The Lord be with you! P: And also with you! Greet one another with signs of peace.

Response Precious Lord, Take My Hand Thomas Dorsey

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, And the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
