The Telecommunica ons Equipment Distribu on Program (TEDP) is designed to assist people who have difficulty communica ng over the telephone be-cause of hearing loss or speech disability. Telephone Assistance Programs Changes brought about by the Federal Telecommunica ons Act of 1996 have resulted in the introduc on of low-income assistance programs in South Da-kota. Low-income subscribers may qualify to receive reduced monthly and installa on charges for basic telephone service.

Valley Telecommunica ons Coopera ve Assn., Inc. is authorized to provide two federal telephone assistance programs that were developed in response to concerns about the affordability of telephone service for low-income ci -zens.

The Lifeline program provides a reduc on in basic monthly tele- phone service equal to the residen al subscriber line charge, plus an addi onal amount of $2.75. The credit applies to the main home telephone line listed in the name of the subscriber. Lifeline sub- scribers may also receive blocking of long distance calls on their telephone line at no charge.

Telephone service must be in the applicant’s name. The applicant must par-cipate in at least one of the following public assistance programs to be eligi-

ble:

What is Relay South Dakota?

Relay South Dakota provides telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard–of-hearing or speech-disabled. Relay South Dakota is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no restric ons on the length or number of calls placed. Internet High Speed Internet FAQ’s

Will Valley’s Internet technology work with a network of computers? Are there extra charges for mul ple computers? Yes. Our high speed service will work with home & business networks, but you may need to purchase Ethernet Cards for each PC, as well as special net-working hardware (hub/router). There is not an addi onal charge for mul ple computers. However, there would be an addi onal monthly charge if your setup requires a “sta c” (or never changing) Internet Protocol (IP) address.

Do I need any special computer equipment? Your computer must be equipped with a Network Interface Card (NIC).

Where can I purchase the Ethernet (NIC) and/or Internet modems? Installing addi onal internal peripherals may void your computer warranty unless the peripherals were purchased directly from the computer vendor. We suggest you speak with a representa ve from your computer manufactur-er’s help desk and inquire as to their warranty policy before purchasing any addi onal equipment.

If there are no warranty concerns, then you may purchase the hardware from any source that sells Ethernet cards.

Because there are so many modem manufacturers on the market, it is impos-sible for us to provide tech support for all of them. The only modems that Valley will provide limited tech support are those supplied by Valley.
