READINGS FOR THE WEEK
Gracias.

Today’s gospel reminds us of something very important: it is not enough to just say “Yes”.
When I was a kid I remember that the most popular excuse people had for not going to church was: “Why would I go to church? People that come in, come out just the same.” Although we shouldn’t judge others, the question itself is important—it dives into the heart of why we do what we do as Catholic Christians.
Do we go to mass just to fulfil certain rules and demands of the Church? Is it to please our parents or honor their memory?
Those reasons might be fine but, if we must come to the full realization that, if we are not committed to Christianity in its fullness, neither can it benefit us in its fullness.
Christianity is not just about following certain routine to keep us out of trouble. It is, more than anything, about transformation. It is not about appearances but about being transformed into people that truly love one another. And, to be clear, true love is not about feelings—it’s about letting Jesus be in us and act thorough us. I think this is the point of Christianity.
So, let our “Yes” to Jesus mean “Yes” so that we might experience Him more authentically and the world might experience Him as well through us.
On another note… Thank you to all of you for the beautiful
Installation celebration last Sunday. I feel blessed to be allowed to serve you. Yes! I am not a leader but a servant. That is what Jesus called us to be and that is why he placed me here. But know that, I cannot do this alone. I count on all of you to help me do my ministry of service well. And, there is no better way of doing that than to offer to help in a ministry here in church. Just as the example above, we use many excuses for not getting involved, but Jesus is calling each one of us to work in his vineyard by the use of our talents, time, and treasures.
This, weekend, in the Parish Center, we are conducting a Ministry Fair so that all of you may have the opportunity to serve. All of us can help in one way or another. So come and find the right ministry for you. Thank you.

ARCHDIOCESAN FIREARMS POLICY
The Archdiocese of Chicago is committed to providing safe Environments for the community. In the midst of a culture of violence, the Church is a staunch voice to call us to be a place of peace. The Archdiocese has long had a best practice restricting the presence of firearms in our facilities. Most of our buildings display signage, consistent with the laws of the State of Illinois, indicating that these weapons are prohibited on the premises. Cardinal Cupich recently distributed a Policy aimed at updating and clarifying the Archdiocese’s position on the prohibition of firearms on all property it owns and controls. The Archdiocese respects the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and recognizes the right to lawfully possess a firearm for personal protection, hunting, or other sports. The Archdiocese has sought to balance the rights of all who visit our properties with the need to protect children, the elderly and other vulnerable populations. However, this Policy is rooted in the belief that our churches and community spaces are intended to be sacred sites where people come to gather, pray, and worship God. There are excep-tions to this policy for law enforcement officers, and authorized security personnel. For more information about this Policy, please visit archchicago.org.
