Seattle, Washington on,Juno 13, 1944, the followin g resolution
pertaining to "free porte" was unanimously adopted:
"America was founded by refugee a; by refugees 1'looing from religious persecution and racial bigotry. This groat nation ' conceived in liberty• baa been peculiarly
aensitlvo to tho cry of ita brothers ' blood wherever and whenever they have been enslaved and persecuted. Particularly because or ita deep religious heritage and
character, believing that men are endowed by their Creator with oerts.in inalienable rigbts , among thoao being liberty, the pursuit or hspp1neaa , and above all,
lifo , America has boon tho traditional haven of those who have been robbea or these precious poeaessione .
"The hour hs.s come when America muet once again rise to this, her manifest destiny, when the GOd who led our aarly Poundinf' Fathers to this richly dowered land 1s
calling upon us to 'bring forth the prisoner from the
prison house and those that dwell in darkness from the
dungeon'.
