(3*3*6) The mass of my container was 43 grams. It cost $1.95 to mail my container to California. I made my container a cube because it is easier to

find volume and it has a lot of room. A challenge I had was measuring the mass. I succeeded in making the actual container for my

Pringle. If I were to do this again, I would make it a little

smaller. Advice: Try to find a shape with a small volume and

find a shape that can easily fit a Pringle.

smallest possible volume. I also put foam, which is filled with air, thus, making it much lighter and keeping the pringle safe.

* One challenge I overcame was finding the mass. This is because another classmate and I had different masses on the same scale but we found out the scale was broken.

* One thing I would do differently is make my package just a little bit smaller.

* Also, some advice, make sure you don’t pack your package too tightly, or else the Pringle will break.

The volume of my box was 42 cubic feet.

The length was 4 inches , the width was 3inches, and the height was 3.5 inches

The equation I used was length x width x height.

The mass was 53 grams. The shape I used was a cube. The reason why I chose to have a

cube was because I thought it would be the easiest to make.

I thought it would be more secure then other shapes.

The most challenging part was actually making the box because the tape was so hard to put on the box.

The things I used were cardboard and bubble wrap.

My Pringle Project was in the shape of a triangular pyramid. I made it like this because no one had done this shape before until this year and it was fun to try something new!

My challenge was making the package big enough for the Pringle so it wouldn’t crack. I started over 3 times!My advice is to make sure your package is big enough for the Pringle!

I decided to use a rectangular prism because• It was easy to find the volume• I went to the store and bought a small cardboard

box. I weighed it, and it was very light.

My challenge was that I constructed a box that didn’t work out too well I tried it once and the Pringle broke. My Advice- My advice would be to bring materials from home so that you can get a jump-start and finish before so you have time to redo if you mess up!

Q. What is the Pringle Project?

A. The Pringle Project is an activity that we P.A.L. kids do. We have to build a package that will hold our pringle and we have to send it to California. The pringle will be examined by students at California and they will tell us if the pringle was broken or not. We have to make sure that the mass is the smallest, and the volume is the smallest.

Q. What shape did I used? A. I used a cube for my package because I thought that a cube would be more sturdy and it would hold the pringle better.

Q. What formula did I use to find the volume and mass?

A. I multiplied the length (3in.), width (3in.), and height (3in) and got 27 cubic inches. I measured my package on a balance and got 35 grams as the mass. Q. What was the rationale that I used to decide the shape of my package and the packing materials I used?

A. The rationale (reasoning) that I used to decide the shape of my package and the packing materials were that a cube would be sturdier and I used cotton balls to soften the inside. I put the pringle in the cotton ball and after I finished putting the sides together, I kicked it around. After I finished, I checked it and the pringle didn’t break!

Q. How did you think your package would contribute to it’s success? A. I thought a cube would do well because a

cube is sturdy so the pringle wouldn’t break.

Q. What did I find that was the most challenging segment of the Pringle Project? How would change this activity next year?

R. I thought that building the package was the hardest because, I had to measure each side and tape them together. I’d change the scoring of the pringle .

The Pringle Project is an activity that all of Mrs. Schaller’s 5th grade students participated in. We had to make a box out of available materials that would safely ship a single Pringle to another class in California. When we finished, we had to find the mass and volume. Soon, we will be Skyping with the class from California and we will open each other's boxes. I made my box a rectangular prism. I would change this so we had one more class to work on the box.

I made my box out of a toothpick box, cardboard and cotton balls. I wrapped the inside box with felt.

I would suggest making the box strong from the start because I had a problem with my box being weak. I solved this with a strong outer box.

The Pringle Project is an activity the 5 th

graders in Mrs. Schaller’s PAL class does to

see if we can send a delicate Pringle all the

way across the country to California. Us

students have to see if we can make a

package with the smallest mass and

smallest volume (if you can) and get the

Pringle all the way to California in one

piece. I used cotton balls, bubble wrap,

cardboard, packing and duck tape. My

The Pringle Project is an activity that we did in PAL. We have to make our own boxes that will safely ship a single Pringle to California. But that’s not it. We also have to make sure that our box has the smallest mass and the smallest volume. When the Pringles get to California, we will Skype with the school to see what happened!

I chose a cylinder for my package. I used a tea package lid, felt to line the insides, and cotton in my box. The felt and cotton were added to protect the Pringle if the package was dropped.

The formula I used to find the volume of my package was: ² The volume was 10.5975 in³The mass was 40 g.The cost to ship was $1.95.

I chose a cylinder shape for my package because some of the boxes Pringles come in are cylinder. I figured the Pringle will be safest in a package the shape of its original container. If I were to repeat the Pringle Project again, I would maybe use different type of material with my box., because the cardboard the lid was made of was very heavy.

The most challenging thing about the Pringle Project was keeping in mind that our box should have the smallest mass and volume. I kept on forgetting that. For next year’s students, I advise that you should use a light but sturdy material, like plastic.

THE PRINGLE PROJECT

The shape I used to create the box was a triangular pyramid. I used cardboard as a sort shell and lined the inside with felt and cotton balls as a protectant layer. Also, for protection against an opened package, I made a ‘pringle cage’ –a bunch of pipe cleaners strung together- that went behind the cardboard.

Successes and Challenges

The difficult part of the project

was finding the volume of my package. The simplest part was definitely

finding the mass and also finding a good shape.
